| Sunday Dinner Apron from Vanilla House Designs | |||
| Description | |||
| This halter-top apron is totally modern with it’s varied fabric options and figure fitting style. The pocket embellishment completes its trendy theme. (from pattern back)

| Fabric Recommendations | |||
| Any quilting cotton would do for this design. I wouldn’t recommend working with anything too heavy. | |||
| Materials | |||
| From pattern back: Based on 42″ minimum wide fabric washed. For complete details please click on “View Larger Image” below the pattern in our shop. |
|||
| Overall Design | |||
| I think the design is adorable, but changes would have to be made for larger bustlines. The pocket cut outs are super cute as well but could be a little deeper of a pocket.
Pocket detail. |
|
||
| Written Instructions | |||
| The written instructions are very clear and easy to follow. |
|||
| Diagrams / Images | |||
| Since there is an “A” version and a “B” version of the pattern, I think it would be helpful to the beginner seamstress if there was a fabric layout diagram that shows which pieces to cut from which fabrics to get to the desired “A” or “B” design. |
|||
| Pattern Pieces | |||
| The pattern pieces are easy to cut and understand. |
|||
| Overall Level of Difficulty | Beginner to Intermediate |
||
| The overall level of difficulty is beginner to intermediate. Fairly easy to assemble but for some beginners they may get confused with the pocket cut outs and lining. (Very creative idea!)
Bustline detail. |
|||
| Modifications + Tips |
|||
| I would most likely modify the bodice slightly to adjust the pattern for larger bustlines as well as fit it a little more along the sides to prevent puckering. |
|||
| Conclusion | |||
| I really love the design of this apron and can see myself recreating this for myself and friends/family after a few modifications of course… | |||

The apron design is very pleasing and the choice of fabric is spectacular.
Cute apron and great fabric choices!
Thanks for a helpful review. What pretty aprons!
I am in love with this apron. How darling. I would love to have my husband come home to me wearing this!!!!
So adorable! I love the fabric choices.
I completely agree with Toni about increasing the bustline. I made a Christmas version, and it is WAY cute, but even for my small butsline, I would have liked for it to have had a little more coverage (mostly lengthwise for me). And I didn’t think about it (maybe because mine is Christmas-y and I haven’t worn it much) , but deeper pockets would be helpful- and such an easy modification. Thanks, Toni!
I think this pattern is a great young & creative version of our lowly predesessor the working apron.This would take our home duties up a notch just donning this!! I love the look of using many coordinated fabrics !!
I always have trouble sewing bias tape and catching it on both sides of the fabric. Is there any tricks to doing this? Otherwise, I love this pattern and fabric choice and can see myself making it for several birthdays coming up!
Sharon
This is adorable! Love the fabric, too. Very much not your grandmas apron. Thanks, ladies!
I love that Apron!! I love the fabrics that you used too! Great review, makes me want to try the pattern out! Thanks!
Love your fabric choices – very sassy! I’ve made a couple of aprons from this pattern – the pockets can be a bit tricky – just be careful when cutting! Also, the neck strap buttons are purely decorative as written in the pattern. I think the next time I made it, I might tweak the pattern to make button holes and make at least one side functional. Just a thought… Love your apron Toni!
Oh, I am so glad you reviewed this pattern. I have been eyeing it and the “Friday Night Apron” as well.
Thanks!
This review is so timely. I was thinking about making a new apron. There are so many patterns to choose from. Thanks for the tips on the pockets and bustline. If I choose this pattern, I’m make a mockup of the bodice with muslim before I cute into the good stuf..
I love this apron!! It almost looks like a dress!!
Great details on this. Very contrasty.
Thank you for this review, the apron is delightful!
I agree, its cute! I am especially in love with your pattern combinations.
I have hesitated to buy this for the very reason you mention about larger busts. I’m a DD and flat triangles for the bust just wont’ work. I have a vintage Simplicity cobbler apron that has darts but I need to resize it.
Hope the designer comes out with a Version 2 of this pattern with the bust adjusted!
Super cute choice of fabrics and the pockets are delightful. In the short time that I have been sewing, I often find that the bustline needs adjusting to fit a larger bust. Hmmm. I wonder if there is a tutorial out there that could help with this issue? hint, hint
Totally adorable. The fabric is SO PERFECT!
Does anyone know if the Friday Night Apron will accommodate a larger bustline easier?
I was going to suggest “Friday Night Apron” as a new title, considering the low, flirty neckline, but Vanilla House already has a Friday Night Apron, with an even deeper, v-plunge neckline. This one IS modest, Sunday-wear in comparison.
Thanks so much everyone! I really enjoyed reviewing this pattern. Sharon, my tip for bias tape is to PIN PIN PIN!
I put my pins in lengthwise and with this particular bias application, I used a zig zag stitch so they would have a little ease, being circular and all. Hope this helps.
What a fabulous apron!
My apron drawer runneth over…but one more won’t hurt:)
Beautiful apron, great review! Thank you!
