Carrie was influenced by Louise Bourgeois’ early work Femme Maison, 1947, and used a stem stitch, back stitch and running stitch for the embroidery. Read more about the story behind the quilt on Carrie’s Whole Cloth Designs blog, find detail images here and visit Carrie’s Etsy shop too.

A very powerful piece. Beautiful.
Love the details, especially the water coming out of the downspout! Can’t wait to see the other 3 pieces
What a beautiful quilt. I love how it was therapeutic for her and allowed her to show the emotions she suffered during postpartum depression.
Carrie has done an important thing in documenting an important time in her life. There is a deep and rich history of women making quilts that have helped them to grieve and heal, as well as to celebrate, all ages and stages of life. It is a way of telling the story of what it means to be a woman. Thank you for sharing this important quilt with us.
Wonderful work.

the blue made me think of the roof tarps after katrina
More and more I realize that the things we sew are truly art, and Carrie has proven it here. There is a lot more involved than thread, fabric and a sewing machine, especially in this quilt that shows us her heart. Thank you Carrie.

This is such a wonderful quilt. I love the technique used to make it look like rain streaks. The detail pics on the blog show even more wonderful detail touches.
Very moving. What a wonderful way to use your art to examine your feelings.
Very evocative of the watery feel of a flood. Especially how the quilting looks like rain coming down on the house. Gorgeous.
Wow – truely amazing
I love how quilts go beyond function to be a piece of art as well. Great quilt!
