I have been sewing lots of new clothes for my little girl, planning a quilt for her 2nd birthday and doing tons of hand embroidery.
my latest project was embelling flour sack towels with fabric and ric-rac and then a couple of hand-embroidered chickens. Easy and fun!
The Classic Tote tutorial was great. I whipped one up in a couple of hours and plan on making more for Christmas gifts. I also want to try the cushions – the instructions looked very clear. You do a great job getting a variety of projects posted. I check the site almost everyday. Thanks again.
I’m making rompers for my sister. She isn’t going to find out if it’s a boy or a girl, so I’m making her a boy one, a girl one, and two yellow/green ones. Fun! I think I’m going to try one of your appliques on them.
I just started to sew. With the help of my friend, Amy, I’ve made 2 skirts. I’m starting my 3rd and I have the material to make a tote from your site. There’s about 10 things I have on my “To Sew” list but I figure that I better pace myself!
Lots of fun summer projects! I recently made a saxophone quilt for my son’s summer birthday. You can find it at http://needles-n-notions.blogspot.com/2008/07/hes-13.html.
My latest project was a strip-work skirt using Joel Dewberry, Amy Butler and Heather Ross fabrics. I don’t have a picture yet, but will be posting on my blog soon.
Lots of fun summer projects! I recently made a saxophone quilt for my son’s summer birthday. You can find it at http://needles-n-notions.blogspot.com/2008/07/hes-13.html
I just finished making some soft toys for my niece for her 1 year birthday. I used one of the tutorials featured in The Ultimate Handmade Holidays last November to make a soft cube and some other shapes. Now I just need to make a little bag or backpack so she can carry around her toys.
Thanks for the summer inspiration. I just can’t seem to stop making totes of every type. linda
mm what have i been sewing, well hubby bought me a serger and i’ve never had/used one before so i’ve been playing around with that.
I made a couple of empire waist tops and …a pair of jeans (which was a first).
I have been sewing my red/white folklore fabrics quilt, which is almost finished now, except for the quilting part. This I will do by hand so should take some time.
I really like some of the projects, so will start on some of them too.
Hugs from Holland,
Ineke
Curtains, curtains, and more curtains! I am moving into a new place at the end of the month and need something for all those naked windows!
I have recently started sewing. I love your blog and it has given me some great ideas of things I want to start sewing. Right now I’m working on a bag from Amy Butler. I’m having so much fun learning and exploring sewing.
I have been making seasonal table toppers for my sister’s new home. I’ve also discovered hand embroidery and am working on a tooth fairy pillow for my daughter.
I’ve been working on a baby blanket with a big giraffe appliqued on the front. I love all of the ideas posted and can’t wait to get started on some new projects!
These are such great projects – I’ll have to try some of them out – very talented ladies. So far this summer, I’ve made 3 tops for myself and am working on a 4th one. I also tried my hand at placemats & napkins for a swap which was quite fun. We’re trying to use more cloth napkins (3 1/2 weeks now of paper-free napkins – very good) so I need to make some more soon.
I’ve been obsessed with elastic thread smocking. I cannot seem to stop. The totes are on my list, but they may have to wait until Fall
My latest projects have been a few taggie blankets for friend’s newborns. I did buy the bandana’s and just need to find a few minutes to sew up some pants for my son!
Embroidering my son’s drawings for a fast, rewarding project and sewing hand bags, totes, and coasters for gifts!
I’m still piecing together a quilt, but look forward to making a picnic blanket in the next few weeks.
I loved the applique tutorials. This summer is all about totes for me but that is mostly what all year is about for me *smile*
I’m working on a 30s retro pinwheel quilt, to hang over my sofa. I’m so loving the reproduction prints! Hope to finish the quilt front this weekend…
I am just starting to sew.. I have been making a few purses/zippered pouches, and I’m taking a class right now to make a pair of pijama pants!
I have conquered my fear of knits and as a result have made two skirts!
making a dress for my daughter. I loved the paper dolls on the oliver and s patterns, so I bought one. now i just have to get it finished.
I’m in the midst of making piping for pillows for my living room. I am using Anna Maria Horner’s “Drawing Room” fabric for them, and making the piping out of black microfiber. I wish someone had warned me at the black fuzz microfiber leaves EVERYWHERE!
I am working on a new set of pillowcases and a couch cover to lighten up our living room – it has been so much fun, picking the fabrics
My latest project was cloth menstrual pads made out of old shirts. Not pretty, but practical.
I just finished a dress! With a zipper! First “real” piece of clothing from a pattern — unfortunately I’m not clever enough yet to do it without a pattern!
http://cygnetsmall.wordpress.com/2008/08/01/the-dress/
I have been and will continue to sew lots and lots of baby quilts for all of the babies that have been arriving.
I’ve been sewing shorts for my boys and I have more shorts and seersucker pj pants cut out on my ironing board to get sewn. I also have a skirt and a dress to make for myself. Now to find more hours in a day to fit it all in!
I just finished helping my daughter sew a pair of pajama shorts. I’m now going to try the picnic blanket. I had to laugh at myself, I thought the “rock pockets” were for children’s treasures as well.
I haven’t been sewing too much. The kids want to play all the time. However, we did buy some curtains at the store and then hemmed them to fit our windows. I hope to get to the wrap skirt from S.E.W. next week. I love reading all the tutorials and hope to use them someday soon.
I completed the Classic Tote one evening and plan to sew a few more!
I’ve been sewing a lot of baby clothes, blankets, booties, etc. for my December baby. It’s so much fun to sew little things for babies! I’m actually making a baby quilt, my first quilt ever. I enjoy every step of it, I hope it will meet my expectations! Handmade items have so much more value to me than anything that I could buy, and I only want what’s best for my little one!
I’ve been making stuffed elephants for baby showers.
I love all the applique stuff!
I’m working on a few dresses for my girls and I’ve finished up a few Mei Tais recently. I’ve got to get geared up for the “First Day of School” outfits pretty soon here!
So far this summer I’ve made two Amy Butler bags, and 2 adorable skirts for my preschooler. Still need to take pics of the skirts, but you can see the bags here: http://bcre8uv.typepad.com/noodle_soup/2008/07/cahd.html
I have made a couple of mail sacks from http://www.pinkchalkstudio.com. It is a great and easy pattern ! I am going to make one for my mom for her trip to Italy. Here is mine: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27148506@N08/2693641447/
I made messenger bags for my little girlies, starting with the legs of pants that will never fit me again. Way fun!
My most recent project is making two things out of one pretty, vintage, extra-long yellow floral pillowcase: first, a skirt for my daughter that allowed me to keep the scalloped, bias-bound edging, and second, a tote bag that allowed me to use the other half of the pillowcase and not actually sew very much… unfortunately I don’t have pictures yet because I”m not 100% done with the tote, but I plan to finish it soon!
Im JUST brand new to sewing…so nothing yet! but im drooling over fabrics and getting excited over potential projects! LOVE the tote bag…
I’ve been sewing a quilt this week – really simple – took the “Nest” layer cake (10″ blocks) and arranged them – then sewed them all together (well mostly together so far) – it’s nice to be back at the machine; I can’t wait for more.
The classic tote tutorial was perfect! I made mine in just a couple hours and am planning on making some as Christmas gifts. Thanks for sharing that.
Still working on too many things, I think I will focus on a new tote bag and the lining of a knitted bag. One day I might even get them onto myblog
I tried the towel robe tutorial for my little one’s swimming lessons. He is only 19 months so I used a old shrunken towel I had at college and eyeballed it. It was so empowering to do the applique. We did the seahorse on his robe. Best of all he LOVES it! He is so excited to put it on and never takes it off. Thanks for all the tutorials! I am trying things I never would have. Thanks!
I’ve been sewing a bunch of different projects this summer: a baby quilt, a new purse for me, a top for me and a top for my daughter.
i have been making some dresses and aprons for my daughter and aprons for myself.
As I just opened my own etsy shop today, I have been sewing a little bit of everything…my favorite being the stuff with embriodery! Thanks as aways for the gifts! Ladies all of your hard work is most certainly appreciated by all!
Thank you for all the great ideas. I just dug up the old recap of girls fashions and am sewing one of the patchwork skirts for my daughter. Love it!
My latest project was a new A-line skirt with some fun summer fabric.
I’ve been working on a quilt forever. My poor machine must feel so neglected this summer. But i do have a fall lineup. Got baby ideas in mind just waiting to find out the gender, a baby quilt, fall/winter toddler pajamas, and i really want to do amy butler’s wide legged lounge pants seen all over blogland. Finally got the book from the library, a vintage sheet for fabric, and am ready to give it a go.
I have been working on my very first original project and tutorial and a quilt for my nephew. http://www.minifripperyetc.blogspot.com
I’ve actually been working on Christmas stockings and a couple of quilts. I’m trying to get a jump on the holiday season!
Thanks for all the great information. I need to get busy!!
I love Erin’s simple blanket. Thanks for all the great tutorials.
My last project was cloth napkins with personalized napkin rings made with slap bracelets covered in fabric. Link: http://applecyder.wordpress.com/2008/05/17/napkin-rings-for-a-growing-family/
I have been sewing cloth diapers for my new little one coming in November
I am working on some “drapes” for a sun porch and am going to use the grommet tutorial. I found it very helpful.
I sewed my first quilt AND first doll quilt AND first dress this summer. Um, maybe I’m going a bit over the top.
right now i’m finishing up a tote bag made from an old pair of jeans. next i hope to start on one of those blankets with the “rock pockets” — so cute.
I’ve been making a ton of tote bags and zipper cases for friends, but now I want to make a picnic quilt–or six! I love that pattern with the little rock holder pockets. Thank you for posting it!
Thanks for putting these all in one post! I had too many bookmarks to keep track of. My next project is sewing some last minute items for my next baby (due in about 6 weeks).
My latest project is designing matryoshka wallhangings and stenciling onesies to sell locally. You can see some of my work here: http://www.thimblythings.com. Thanks for looking!
I have been sewing a ton of things for my sister-in-law’s new baby…quilt, burp clothes, baby shoes, baby hats, soft blocks, diaper/wipe carrier…
So many projects on my to-do list: a half-apron, a tote bag, a wrap to match my little black dress for a friend’s black-tie wedding this fall, a clutch or wristlet, and no fewer than half a dozen home dec projects! Must stop reading crafty blogs on the internet and start sewing….
I’m trying to get a jump-start on Christmas and I started appliqueing t-shirts for my nephews.
My latest project was a throw pillow. I’m planning to make more as well as a duvet cover for my new bed. I can’t wait!
I have had a very productive summer of sewing! I made two sets of valances, a tablecloth for the kitchen, a tablecloth for the outdoor patio, two pillowcases, two flower pincushions, a fabric beach ball, and a set of placemats for a swap. I am almost finished with two portable cushions based on your tutorial, which I love!
I’m making a shirt dress from Burda WOF and I’m kicking it off with my first muslin.
I can’t wait to make the pool robe!
Oh my gosh, your lists are always so inspiring and just a little overwhelming! So much fun stuff to make! So far, my summer has been taken up with moving, so I haven’t been sewing too much, but I soon will!
I’ve been working on a few embriodery projects (simple and small…I’ve just starting embroidering) I aslo have a half-done pair of lounge pants, and just started cutting out the fabric for a picnic blanket with rock pockets!
Thanks for all of the great tutorials!
I’ve actually been working with my 11 and 9 yr old daughters on learning to work the machine. They have been making pillows (what I started with when I was little). My 11 yr old got to learn a little last year, but then had to take over the machine for making scarfs for my head after surgery. They have been enjoying it and are quickly inheriting my addiction to fabric.
I’ve been frantically trying to catch up with a Dear Jane Quilt along. If I had time, I would definitely be sewing an Amy Butler Birdie Bag.
I’ve been doing a bit of handwork while the kids play in the pool
http://kateyz.blogspot.com/2008/07/boredom-buster.html
I’ve also made several of these cute little baskets – hasn’t everybody made at least one?
http://ayumills.blogspot.com/2008/05/tutorial-fabric-basket.html
I have been sewing lots of aprons, bibs, and totes! I have had fun with all of this summer sewing!
i’m sewing baby shoes and the diaper bag of my dreams for my new little guy
I’ve really enjoyed the summer sewing month. I made the pool robes for both of my daughters. You can read and see it here. http://browntown.typepad.com/browntown/2008/07/dusted-off-the-cobwebs.html
Small plush stuffed animals.
I loved the classic tote tutorial and made one each for my mother and mother-in-law to hold thank you gifts for the baby showers they are hosting. I also used the embroidery tutorial to make an absolutely adorable bib for the baby in honor of my husband – it has a skull on it. It was SO easy and it looks great! Thanks to the ladies for sharing your creativity and wisdom!
I’ve been dreaming about sewing a little dress for my daughter, but it hasn’t happened quite yet!
I’ve started my Christmas quilting!
http://mystrandz.blogspot.com
I have been doing a lot of stash building. It’s easier than getting time to sew these days.
This year I am serious about getting Christmas presents done this summer, so I’m working on table runners and coasters for the holidays. FUN!
i’ve been sewing TONS of doll quilts this summer and i’ve just started the picnic blanket to give as a gift!
i’ve mostly been quilting, it’s been fun.
I have been sewing some things for the house and clothes for my daughter. I am planning the rock pocket quilt for an August or Sept project. It will be my biggest yet!
My latest project is a 50th birthday present for a dear friend. It’s like this one only the reverse appliqued word is “celebrate” : http://www.flickr.com/photos/marymademe/2641028844/
I’m in the planing stages of a Tetris quilt for my boy. Also been sewing lounge pants from sheets for me. Need to do two totes for my boys . May be I’ll do the bags before I start the quilt.
This summer I recently made pillows and covers for my baskets in the living room. Doodle bags for the kids, by the way the easy tutorial is free on my blog at http://www.sewspoiled.blogspot.com. Drawing cases from the craft apple pattern, a few skirts and of course bags! I enjoyed all of the tutorials this month. Thanks you everyone who contributed!!
I’ve been working on bags for an etsy shop http://www.jeanmarieflaherty.etsy.com.
Something tells me I have to get back to garment sewing though. I miss it so much!
I am working on my Holiday Party Dress and also my new winter coat! yiepee!
After a couple of months without much sewing at all, I’ve been on a roll this week! Erin’s rock pockets blanket, Purlbee’s Purl Frogs, a Softies pincushion, and a doll quilt for my little girl. Up next is figuring out a quilt for my daughter’s “big girl” bedroom!
Sewing lots of shopping bags from upcycled clothing! (also making some crochetted plarn ones too)!
so many great new things to try! so happy you put this all in one spot!
I’ve been doing a little bit of everything lately. I have been doing swaps that got me to try lots of new things!
I’m sewing the last two summer dresses (August 1st? I know sort of silly but I’m loving them) and two carseat seat protector pads so I can stop washing the whole seat covers!
I’m working on a Christmas quilt from the Summer 2008 issue of Quilts and More. I love the quilt on the cover!
I’ve been taking time out to sew for myself this week. Yesterday I finished up a new apron using the wonderful Emmeline apron pattern. http://sarahsews.wordpress.com/2008/07/31/oh-my-emmeline/ Next up is a sewing machine dust cover… Yep, I’ve simply draped a pathetic looking towel over my machine.
As I just moved house, there has been rather a lot of curtain sewing on the summer menu. For dessert: beaded felt crowns and princess capes for my friends adorable twin girls who turned 4 years old. Next plan: some flimsy cool tops to cope this summer heat. And some colourfull cushions for the couch!
I’ve been working on PJ shorts for my grandson. The dream is get a few marinating projects out of the “thoughts” basket. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
quilting!
I’m making a summer dress for my oldest daughter with vintage, thrifted fabric. Hoping to finish this week (before summer is over — we live in Wisconsin)!
http://irishroses-milwaukee.blogspot.com/2008/07/new-project.html
I haven’t gotten to the sewing part, but I have been planning a quilt for my new baby…I will get to that hopefully in a week or two.
Quilts quilts and more quilts – trying to get a jump on Christmas. Just finished up my version of a Disappearing Nine Patch (http://thequeenbeesbuzz.blogspot.com/2008/07/gentle-push.html) and 92 gingerbread boy blocks for a multiple quilt/multiple wall hanging Christmas gift bonanza.
I just finished a skirt for myself using designer japanese fabric. I love all your sewing ideas.
I made a tote from Irene’s tutorial using Nigella fabric. It makes the perfect beach bag!! It only took about an hour and I get lots of compliments every time I use it!!
I just love these tutorials… I have been busy making pajamas for the kids and want to try out applique now.
I made a birthday banner just in time for my daughter’s first birthday. All the rest of my sewing energy has been spent on baby gifts (blankets, booties, bibs, bags), since it seems like everyone I know is expecting this summer and fall.
I’ve been coming up with lots of stuff to try! I have made a couple of super cute shoes for my little girl. They are fun and super quick to make.
Here’s a glimpse of my attempts over the last few months
http://www.oneordinaryday.com/2008/07/21/just-hangin-with-joann/
I’m new at all of this, and it’s a little rough starting out. I’m trying to keep trying though:)
I just tore thru our old towels to start making some of those cover up’s. I am making my daughter a minky quilted blanket, I made towels, burp cloths and a Cat in the Hat baby quilt.. (and had a baby in March)
I sure would love some new fabric too
I’m too busy sewing for everyone else. I need to slow down and sew something for me! I’m orking on bicycle pants cuffs for my husband, sewed shorts for my daughter and a birthday gift for my brother. Free patterns for the last two are posted on my blog!
I just finished a quilt for my 18 month old, now I need more fabric for some inspiration!
I’ve been sewing up some simple dresses for my niece, pj shorts for my boys and a few things for myself. Soon it will be time to start on Christmas presents. I love all your tutorials and plan on using some for gifts. Thanks!!
I’ve been attempting to make some maternity skirts–they are so hard to find in the stores these days! I’ve also got a bunch of birthdays coming up at the end of this month, so I’ll have to get going on some sewing for that…
I’m going to attempt my first quilt. Bloom by Camille Roskelley. Here’s the link to the pattern: http://www.thimbleblossoms.com/Thimble_Blossoms/Thimble_Blossoms_Home/Entries/2007/7/31_bloom.html I’m super excited as this will be gifted as long as it turns out!
I made the tote bag and it turned out fabulously! I’ve also been sewing clothes for myself, a friend, and my girls.
I love FFF! This summer, I’ve come back to making tote bags, but I’ve also made a few aprons. This one I made with no pattern for a friend, and I love the fabric!
http://morgantastic.blogspot.com/2008/07/im-fine-thanks-how-are-you.html
Sewing schools for grandkids & today a shorts set for bible school program tonight. thanks
I’m planning to use the instructions from the cushion project to help reupholster my sofa! That was the only part that I was hesitant about — the staple gun and fabric fitting I’ve got down — I almost had a professional redo my cushions.
Yay for timely posts and tricks for inserting zippers!
Oy, my latest project…….I just finished up a baby sling, hurridly sewed up some curtains so they could be put on the rod for guests a couple weeks ago (but they need to be taken down and re-sewn because they aren’t very straight), and I’m in the middle of making a little dress for my daughter. This is my first time making children’s clothing but I like it…..less material to mess up with and it goes so much quicker!
My latest project was lining a knit and then felted tote bag! It’s my new knitting bag! I’m still learning, but it even included some pockets on the inside!! No pictures yet though! I need to take some pictures and blog about it!
Love all these summer tutorials! I just finished my first king-sized quilt, for our master bedroom, and am starting a quilted tote to keep for myself. That’s about all I can handle since we’re also replacing our floors right now!!
I’ve been embroidering a few things. My sewing room is a mess. I’ve got a really lengthly list of to do’s. Happy Sewing everyone!
the towel bath robe came out great. Ive been working on skirts (and used the reverse applique on one, and (as always) bags!!!!
I just completed a new little tank top, blogged about here: http://capperoo.blogspot.com/2008/07/new-shirt-for-me.html
I’m now working on a shopping bag. I always bring two grocery shopping and many times need one or two more, so I decided to whip them up!
Oh dear, this has been my summer of sewing! I’ve made a skirt for my niece, a skirt for my daughter, a shirt for me, 7 flannel baby blankets (one currently resides on the lap of my bed/chair bound grandmother), 3 flannel burp cloths, and a few “grandparent” dolls for my daughter (a picture of the dolls can be seen here: http://iwonderwoman.blogspot.com/2008/06/thrifting-and-crafties.html. Oh, and a purse for me. Oh, and I’m learning to embroider- getting a head start on this years’ Christmas gifts!!
This has been the summer of crayon rolls and diaper & wipes case for friends and family….lots of expecting moms and friends with toddlers can do that to you….hopefully there’s a project for me in the form of a cushion or picnic blanket on the up and up!
I have been very busy this summer. My niece wanted to re-do her room. We took a trip to IKEA and got a duvet cover, accessories and extra fabric…then the fun began. We went through my many bins of fabric, gathered all the hot pink, orange and sage green we could and got to business designing. I made pillow cases, a patchwork pillow, curtains, a wall quilt and lined a basket for her. We also did some fun labels with chalkboard fabric to help keep her organized. All in all it was a big job in a short amount of time (she visits fo the summer) but well worth the tears in her eyes when her mom, my sister, put it all together!
Thanks for letting me share…Angie
I wish I were sewing more, but it’s just too nice outside this summer. I’ve been working on dresses for my daughter. Next on the list is a tank top for me!
Finished 2 quilts and working on another one. I’ve also knitted a hat.
As usual, most of my sewing time is filled with making quilts. But I’ve also become completely addicted to the Mail Sack Pattern from Pink Chalk Studios. I suspect my next thing to tackle will be some pillows/cushions (the tut. you gave us is perfect!)/curtain as my sister just bought a new house!
lots and lots of bibs, blankets, etc this summer! we have 3 babies on the way in our family and 2 friends’ babies on the way! it’s a busy time…
I just sewed a top and a dress from Simplicity’s Built by Wendy pattern 3835… next up, Amy Butler’s Anna Tunic, once I get some muslin for the lining and some paper to trace out the pattern.
I’ve been sewing like mad lately: an apron for a swap, the lotus cami by Amy Butler. I’m going to try out some knits but that’s after I finish a skirt I’ve been working on!
There have been a rash of new babies in the neighborhood, so I’ve been working on appliqued shirts and repurposing the hand-me-downs in the neighborhood (like men’s shirts) into baby smocks. Here are some of my most recent creations:
http://diego.org/sarah/2008/07/27/this-weekend-in-stitches/
I have been making purses, pillowcase dresses, raggy blankets and I am now starting a “Pretty Woman” -like Red Formal for my daughter to wear to a Mystery Birthday Party.
Oh, my goodness! I have my first grandson on the way…so I’m sewing blankets and bibs and tiny, tiny clothes and quilts. Also, for myself, I’m practicing with my new serger on a knit shirt this weekend. Thanks for the lovely blog!!
I’ve been sewing appliquéd shirts and onesies – my fav has been the baby beluga shirt for my 2year old.
look!
http://sycamorestirrings.blogspot.com/2008/07/baby-beluga.html
Just making a few cat toys for the new addition to the family. Later in the fall I will start back up and make chalkboard placemats for my niece and nephews for Christmas. I check your blog daily – so many inspiring ideas! I love the constant flow of information here.
Planning on making some kids backpacks and a diaper bag. Then a quilt to finish and maybe start another one for my son. List just gets bigger.
I am still working on Christmas Quilts, and found a tute for fabric buckets, so have been working on those also…..
photos on my blog http://www.withthreadinghand.blogspot.com

Nothing! I have been busy in the garden and painting the garage. I am slowing starting to get back into sewing 10 minutes each morning. Next up, baby blanket for some friends whose due date is fast approaching.
I have so very many things going and things I want to get going before School starts! How about just 3: 2 more nephew’s quilts, a summer bag, and a wall hanging or pillows from some very rad old pants.
I’m currently sewing some bookmarks for a bookmark swap, turning a pair of pants into a pair of shorts (can’t decide on the length), and some beginning sewing work for my boys.
I check SMS everyday, because I love your projects. This summer I’ve made piles of totes, my first diaper bag, newborn blanket, little girl nightgowns, crocheted one rag rug, and engineered the most absolutely CRAZY Vacation Bible School costumes featuring Giggles Gecko, Christian Caterpillar, and Silly Snail. Fun, fun, fun!
I’ve been making pool cover-ups for a gaggle of kids and covering them with the cute appliques that I learned how to make from this site! Thanks so much!
I’ve been making baby quilts. One was very tedious to piece, so the next one has no piecing at all! It’s got a jungle panel on front and a jungley batik on back. Now how to quilt it??? And next I’ll make my son his first “Mama-made” quilt, which is what he calls the blanket I knit for him before he was born. Oh, and a couple of cute little aprons for my 3 year-old twin niece and nephew.
This summer I’ve been working on sewing aprons & reusable coffee cozies. I just got a vintage pattern for making womens panties and I can’t wait to give that a try!
I’ve been working on sundresses for my girls and crinolines for all the flowergirls for my brother’s wedding in August.
I love the summer towel shirt that was featured! Great idea!
I have been sewing tote bags for use as grocry bags (in place of plasctic.)
The tutorial on the quilt with the rock pockets was brilliant! Yet another great idea to tuck away for when I have the time!
I have made sundresses for my girls and a vinyl covered tote for the beach vacation that didn’t happen due to Hurricane Dolly. Oh well, the bag works great for the pool and the girls can wear the sundresses anytime. I also made a quick quilt for my new nephew and a few fat quarter tote bags. Many more projects are also still in the works. Too bad I have been too busy sewing to get pics on to my blog!
Not very exciting, but I just whipped up a little felt camera case for my trusty digital camera–I somehow lost the previous (handmade) one in Japan…I hope someone found it and is using it! I love this blog–I feel like a greedy kid in a candy shop: I want to make one of everything!
I just finished making two bags for birthday parties, as well as a doll for my neice’s birthday.
I have enjoyed all of the great summer sewing ideas.
Tara
I just finished my second ever baby quilt. It was a marked improvement over my first one. Hooray!
This summer I have been teaching myself how to sew. It’s a lost art and the sound of the scissors against the dining room table remind me of times long past. So, I started by sewing simple beanbags. Then moved on to some felt puppets for my son. Next was a backpack I envisioned for my two year old that I created without a pattern or instructions followed by a tote bag for myself. Now I’m having a ton of fun making crayon wraps for all the kids in the neighborhood. Slowly but surely, this summer has been about filling our home with items created by me with love.
I made a new tote from your tutorial, a dress for my 19 month old, a blanket for a baby shower, and am currently working on a minky backed quilt for my 19 month old.
I’ve been working on a quilt of my son’s design. He’s an art student. Handy with pencil and paper, but not so much with a needle. Will be a wonderful collaborative keepsake for him.
Aprons, children’s clothes, purses, wallets….whatever I can find time for
I’ve started my Christmas sewing! I am doing a completely homemade Christmas this year! I could surely use some fabric.
I’m working on purses and other “stuff” for my website. Trouble is, I’m always wanting to make something newer, better…help! I have sewing attention deficit disorder. SAAD. Kind of catchy!
I just sewed the bandana pants for my son, and he loves them. He even wore them to Bible school last night. Thank you! and thanks to Blue Yonder!
right now i’m working on a linen coverlet for our futon, and trying to sew clothing for the first time.
Thanks for the recap. It’s so nice to see all the tutorials in one page. Now…it’s time to start trying to make them!
I’ve just been going crazy sewing reusable grocery bags. Nothing that exciting.
So many project…so little time.
I’m gathering the fabrics now to make a tote/diaper bag for a shower gift this weekend.

My latest project is the Amy Butler Cabo shirt in a fun summer print by Moda Fabrics. I love it. It’s not finished, but hopefully soon. Just in time for this Oregon drizzle weather to leave! Thanks for all the fun projects to see and get inspired!
Thinking about adapting the cushion tutorial for a wooden bench cover. Great tutorial! Lots of awesome tutorials-within-a-tutorial. Any thoughts on waterproofing the fabric for outdoors? Basic Scotch Guard, or are there better products?
I’ve finally found the time to make aprons and purses.
I just finished a hooded sweatshirt for a Build-a-Bear that I’ll probably list on Etsy (unless my kids see it and then it will be commandeered for sure).
I made all the clothing that my kids needed this summer (that I hadn’t bought ahead of time) to save money and I really enjoyed it!
Thanks for the great tutorials!
I’ve been working on bags, stand mixer covers, and headbands!
i’m attempting my first ever tunic shirt for my niece who turned 3 recently
I’m teaching my sisters how to make these adorable smocks for our baby girls!
Tutorial found at http://www.themayfly.com/weblog
Ooh! I have been sewing skirts for myself out of thrifted sheets, and tote bags from pillowcases. I am looking forward to the weather cooling a bit, so I will feel even more like playing with fabric!
I whipped up a children’s purse for a birthday present after making a backpack for my little boy with curious george fabric. He’s taken it with us on all our summer adventures. I’ve done a couple quilt blocks and some odd and ends such as clothes repair (not the fun stuff).
I have been sewing all kinds of bags! Next up is a diaper bag for my sister. I loved the projects this month!
What have I been sewing this summer? Dresses for a little girl. She has so many summer ones (although I always see more I’d like to make). I recently came across some cute cordoroy (sp) with little skunks, rabbits and squirrels and decided it was time to begin her fall/winter dresses.
I’ve been working on a quilt for a baby coming in a few months and some soft toys for my daughter for Christmas (yes I know, it’s early!).
I’ve been making twirl skirts! Lots of twirl skirts! Here’s the first one I made, for my daughter of course!
http://itssewsweet.blogspot.com/2008/07/you-spin-me-right-round-baby.html
I’ve been sewing skirts and capes. Skirts for me and capes as birthday gifts for my daughter’s friends. I’ve also made a tote bag from the tutorial here. Love it! I just bought more fabric to make some more!
I have been sewing summer clothes for my daughter, a tote bag for myself, and now fall clothes for my daughter. I have also made her a small totebag and a cape. Thanks so much for your blog, I love all the projects and I am going to try to do grommets so I can make her a teepee. I hope I win today is my birthday, and I would really love some new fabric. This would be one plus in the fact that I am getting older. Thanks for the wonderful blog:)
I’ve been kept busy sewing birthday presents: dresses, bunting & pjs. Somewhere I did manage to find time to sew 2 skirts for myself – but I still have more I want to do!
Crazy I know… but I’ve started my holiday gifts.
Everyone’s getting vintage inspired aprons this year.
latest project: attempting my first dress with a New Look pattern (6725 – view C) and sadly discovering that I was short about 1/2 inch of fabric for cutting out all the pieces needed (that dang yoke front!!) I blame it all on the irritating tendancy of all fabric I like coming on 54″ bolts. Do I find patterns using 54″ width fabric? Never. So either I or the lady at the fabric store miscalculated for 54″ and I’m stuck for now. Oh well. Maybe some free Friday fabric will make me feel better!! Yay free fabric Fridays!!!
I’m loving Irene’s Classic Tote tutorial… some Christmas gifts in the works! Also getting ready to try out the fold-over elastic that’s been generating so much buzz lately– I’m thinking jammies for the kids.
I’ve been making beach totes and a comfort quilt for various family members, along with finishing a crib quilt top for a future baby!
i’m planning a zig zag quilted throw for my cousin’s wedding. aack! – only 5 weeks till the big day! curse you, procrastination!!
!
mostly dresses for myself, though I did make my hubbin a pair of shorts a month or so ago that he wears almost constantly
I’ve been sewing a lot of clothes for myself (almost a project a week!). You can find my two most recent projects here:
http://mscleaverchronicles.wordpress.com/2008/07/29/because-i-cant-do-anything-the-easy-way/
and
http://mscleaverchronicles.wordpress.com/2008/07/27/crazy-week/
A friend of mine is 3 months pregnant, so it’s lots and lots of baby things this summer!
I’ve been busy sewing a messenger bag and some peaceable bears by ruth mcdowell.
My first summer with Sew Mama Sew has been magical. I look forward to the fall and holiday season
I’ve loved all of the summer tutorials posted, what fun!! I’m currently working on a few potholders and oven mitts for a couple of friends
Great tutorial month. What’s coming next? I look forward to it all.
I’ve been sewing wedding gifts and wedding outfits for my baby. The finished products look like this:
http://langlangcreations.blogspot.com/2008/08/deadlines-met.html
THanks for all the great tutorial. Now that my “work” is done, I’ll have time to try your projects.
holey moley, so much stuff to make.
very inspiring!
Not much in the way of sewing. I did finish my first quilt down to the binding, which my daughter loves. Last night I basted the layers of my second quilt top and I will begin quilting it tonight. I also finished the Amy Butler Nappy Bag and I’m excited to make another.
Love these projects! Thanks so much for everything!!
Im not a great seamstress… but I recycled some hand towels that weren’t getting used and used them to back some super cute prints I had and made my son a new set of bibs!
With a brand new baby and a jealous toddler, there hasn’t been much time for sewing yet this summer.
Oh well, there’s still August to tackle the list of projects!
I haven’t had much time to sew but I have been trying to stock up on fabric. I have lots of projects planned (baby quilts and softies) so I’m preparing.

Thanks to your great tutorials, I’ve been sewing totes and I’ve been using applique on lots of things. My favorite project incorporated the tote and applique tutorials. It was so satisfying for someone relatively new to sewing to complete something both pretty and functional. Indeed, my seahorse tote inspired me to finally start my own creative blog. The project is posted here:http://cotyledoncreative.blogspot.com/2008/07/noodlebugs-library-bag.html
I love this blog and all the great ideas on it. I just posted some of my summer sewing projects on our blog if you want to check them out. I’m currently working on a minky-type of blanket for a friends baby who’s due next week. So fun to make things for those wee ones.
Thanks for the recap!
Loved the classic tote… after making 3 from home decor fabric, I’m in the midst of making 9 more from 3 clearanced tablecloths (doing them assembly line and only have gussets and straps left for 7 of them). It was fun to make the pockets and straps out of the opposite, coordinating cloth! These turned out so nice each time – I’ll be posting pics of the new 9 on my blog tomorrow. Thanks Irene (and her aunt) for the great tute!! I’m a bit addicted to these totes and find that they can be used for just about anything!
I’ve found that I have quite a bit of time to devote to sewing this summer, which is always wonderful! I’ve made a few purses, a couple of aprons, some apple pincushions that I have for sale on my craft site caitlinscrafts.blogspot.com, and as always, my enormous quilt that I am hand quilting and have been working on for almost two years now. It’s beautiful and always getting closer to being completed. I’ve loved all the tutorials and wonderful ideas that are posted here on Sew, Mama, Sew, and I come to check things out at least once a day, but usually more often than that!
Oh, I am also totally in love with the picnic blanket idea of putting pockets for rocks in the corner and will definitely be including that in pretty much every quilt I ever make from now on!
I’m sewing holiday gifts, too. Can’t start too early with three small kids in the house, I say. Would love to win the fabric. We’ve also been making cardboard toys – check it out if you like:
http://ikatbag.blogspot.com/2008/07/whats-in-box.
APRONS! Aprons! Aprons coming out my ears!
I alternate between American girl doll clothes to Wee bunnies, to headbands, to totes. It’s so hard to stay with one thing! I promised my daughter a quilt over the summer but I keep putting it off! Sigh…
i especially loved the applique tutorial. i appliqued some t-shirts and they look adorable! i’ve also been making notebook/crayon holders that people really seem to like. I’ve got 10 orders to fill. love your blog and shop. thanks!
I want free fabric!!!
I’ve made the classic tote, 2 in fact! Next up… 2 quilts for my twin toddler boys using the hungry caterpillar fabrics. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is their favorite book so I’m excited to be able to make them something they can hold, touch and settle in with when they are drifting off to sleep.
I just finished my very first dress for my little one (an Oliver+S bubble dress), it turned out so very cute! The pool robe is up next
I’ve been working on all kinds of projects! Mostly trying to get my Christmas sewing finished. I’m about half done, can you believe it? And it’s only August 1st. The one thing I could use is more fabric to finish my gifts!
I’m planning to make a quilt out of some great Amy Butler fat quarters I bought to commemorate the summer. And my daughter’s birthday (she’s turning 1) is at the end of August so I plan on making her a party dress and a cute birthday crown to celebrate the day. Lots of celebratory sewing for August!
I’ve got lots of ideas for sewing swirling about my mind, but right now I’m trying to finish up some knitting projects first!
I’ve been quilting away! Currently I’m working on a quilt who is moving away at the end of August. I’m very very very excited about it!
I’ve been sewing a couple of quilts and some baby gifts, but I am really enjoying using vintage sheets in some of the projects!
thanks for helping this grannie stay up-to-date with summer ideas to sew!
Mostly oilcloth bags but I did sneak a bit of cotton in
http://workinprogress-wip.blogspot.com/
Baby gifts and wedding gifts! Everyone I know is coming up to a big life event–kind of wild.
Right now I’m making up some pincushions for my Etsy shop! They haven’t been posted yet, but I do have a sneak peek up on my blog!
http://koalafuzz.blogspot.com
thanks for helping this grannie stay up-to-date with summer ideas to sew! I’ve been doing some blue jean refurbishing and remodeling, and making some diapers for my newborn grandson.
I’ve been having fun sewing clothes for myself, friends and family.
Had a baby in June. I’ve been trying to sew a sling; having difficulty finding quality time with my sewing machine though…
I’m working on a jumper for my little girl, but I’ve got plenty of projects lined up. Now if only I could fit them all in.
–Just a quick thanks to all the ladies involved with helping us all out with your wonderful ideas and giving your time to make these great tuts for us. THANKS!
I just got over my self-imposed sewing hiatus (machines were in the shop) – so I’m very excited to get back to making some clothes for my girls. I think I’m going to be doing the applique first!!!
I love the bandana pants and so does my toddler. He’s been wearing them all the time lately
We closed on a new house this week – I am about to sew a million curtains!
I haven’t made anything yet, but when my kids go to grandparents’ house for 2 weeks (wooo-HOOOO!!!) I’m going to start my Christmas sewing projects. And work on skirts for my daughter- with appliques!!!
I’ve been sewing a lot of skirts and peasant blouses for my girls, purses and totes for gifts, and an apron or two.
Here’s the link to the summer project I just started and am almost finished with: http://sarahsthreads.blogspot.com/2008/08/summer-shirt.html
I’ve been sewing summer clothes for me — ones that fit and that don’t have to be adjusted every 5 min (like whatever I buy from the store), and I just finished the picnic blanket you had a tutorial for, too. I would post links, but I my digital camera is away for the week. Sigh.
I’ve been working on some quilts and other things to sell in a new “all-handmade” store that opened up near me in White Lake, MI called “Gazelle’s House of Handmades”. Check out the website here….
http://www.thehouseofhandmades.com
I have yet to start anything yet from July’s blog yet as I’m in the middle of making a memory quilt for a birthday gift. But you betcha I’ve got a bunch of things bookmarked for after the girls head back to school.
I’ve been making clothes for my little girl and baby presents for my friends having babies this year. You can see a picture of one of the dresses at my blog. I love all the summer sewing projects and have a long list of things I want to do.
I made my 2 year old a cute shirred top just today. And I helped my 8 year old put some pockets into a little bag she sewed a few months back…she wants to be Nancy Drew and so she needed some places to organize her notebook and pens and such.
This summer I made a few drawstring bags, some shorts, and a fleece blanket for a birthday gift. Not as much sewing as I would have liked, but summer does that to you sometimes!
I’ve been sewing up a storm this summer! So many weddings and birthdays. I just finished a flower girl dress for my daughter to wear in my brother’s wedding. I made two of the tote’s using the tutorial above, too. I’d love some fabric for future projects!

I am new to sewing. I am currently making a baby blanket and a dress for my daughter. I hope to make the awesome picnic blanket and tote that you have listed in your tutorials soon,.. Thanks for keeping up this great blog!
I’m renovating my dorm room – soon I’ll have a before and after up on the blog, but right now my most recent fabric fashioning has been along the lines of pillows and draperies
I’m especially inspired by Jane Brockett this summer, and her delightful quilts. I’m so glad she’s going to be writing a book. I’ve really just discovered this blog – and have become quite intrigued – generally, I’m a knitter!
Wonderful projects that make me so excited for a less busy time of year…
http://friztime.blogspot.com/

I just finished a bedskirt for my daughter’s room and now I am beginning to sew a purse for my mother in law.
I’m working on a baby quilt for a friend whose baby is going to be 1 year old soon. It will be a small-ish quilt (36 x 42 or so). I have pictures of the pieced top posted on flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/12584501@N03/2644742664/) (but I’m already done with the quilting now, just have to square it up, bind it, and label it).
What have I been sewing this summer?
I think the biggest thing I’ve sewn this summer were throw pillows for my living room. The old ones were hard and uncomfortable and terribly old and worn. I’ve never sewn throw pillows before, so it was a great learning experience — not only were they easy, they are darn cute too with some goldfish fabric I actually bought from you guys a few months ago.
I love the classic tote. Thanks for sharing!
i’ve been making bags & purses all from my own patterns and looking forward to starting a few baby things for some upcoming shower gifts!
I’m planning on making the picnic quilt ASAP!
I just finished making several smocks from the sew-along to give to family members. They loved them. I think I’ll take on the beach cover-up next.
I’m sewing diaper clutches for baby shower gifts. I’d love to sew a few soft fabric balls to throw in the mother-to-be gift bags, too. All ideas courtesy of sew mama sew, of course. Thanks!
I actually haven’t had tons of time to sew this summer – fall is my sewing time
But I have made quite a few bags & totes for holding gifts for kids and friend’s birthdays!
Great tutes – thanks so much for your hard work!
I love the picnic blanket. Far better than going out and buying those small ugly red tartan ones. I can’t wait to get started. I also love the tote tutorial and will be making one for my sister’s birthday. You guys are so inspiring. Keep it up.

I am starting my holiday gifts next I am making a lot of aprons and I have to get started now.
Getting ready to make a blanket, picnic placemat set for some friends and I loved the rock pockets idea from this week! I’ve been embroidering a wall hanging for a friend’s new baby as well.
I’ve been making purses/bags for sale, and clothes for my 3-yr old daughter. Also a baby quilt. I don’t have a tan this summer because I’ve spent all my time at the sewing machine instead of the beach
I’ve been sewing quilts (winter here!) and dreaming of warm summer breezes. Also been doing a little embroidery.
I have really enjoyed these great summer ideas. I will make the cool picnic quilt, and the pool robe. I love the great tutorials with all the pictures, appliques finally make sense to me!

I’ve not been sewing long and am making some pocket picnic mats with cutlery pockets for my nan’s bday!
Up until the rock blanket, the tent was my favorite…………….but boy-o-boy, I love the blanket! What a neat, simple idea! Thanks-I love it!
I’ve been making a lot of things for my little girl’s room-curtains, bed skirt, pillows, slip covered 2 chairs…I’ve been meaning to make her that adorable pool robe (guess I need to spend a little less time at the pool to actually get it done:) and I really want to try that tent!

I’ve been busy making new placemats and cloth napkins, lunch bags and backpacks for my girls for school, and those cute little roller coasters featured in the tutorial roundup a while back. Thanks for all the wonderful inspiration and tips. Love your blog. Just love it!!!
I’ve been busy sewing gifts for a friend’s baby and trying to make the “perfect” lovey for my seven-month-old. The baby absolutely loves the fabric store, so we’ve been spending a lot of time stocking up on sale fabric, too. I can’t wait to finish with the gifts so I can try some of these projects!
One of the biggest things I’ve sewn this summer was an Amy Butler patchwork purse. Of course, that’s just amid other things!

I’ve actually been sewing outfits for the SCA. Lots of fun!
I’m working on a little nap blanket for my youngest to take to pre-k with him next week. And a dress for my daughter. I really want to try out some of those appliques and have a couple of plain tee’s set aside for just that!
More projects from the start of summer – some appliqued shirts (for boys!) and a few dresses out of my japanese craft books.
http://diego.org/sarah/page/9/
I love all the tutorials here! I’ve made 3 bags and two nursing covers in the last couple of weeks. Next up, binding my baby’s quilt and making bumper pads.

Also some maternity clothes for me!
I have been sewing clothes for my daughter this summer. It put a little dent in the back to school clothing… and it gave me a chance to be creative. You gotta love that!
My first proper sewing project was the Amy Butler Carry All. I’m very proud of it.
blogged here: http://starry.neo-ilove.com/?p=276
I who swore I would never get into garment sewing (ha) have been sewing tons of clothes for myself. I’m hooked. It’s so gratifying to have clothes made from fabric I love (and that is way higher quality than most ready to wear stuff) that fit beautifully too.
I’m making wallets right now! and i totally want to venture into bags, but that’s pretty daunting!
I’ve been sewing dresses for my daughter, trying to learn to knit (from a book, and making tons a baby gifts. The summer sewing series has me really excited for the handmade holiday’s. I am already using last years list to get ideas but find myself not wanting to commit because I never know what great ideas are going to be in this years list. How sad is that!
Feather
I have two quilt tops to quilt, a new quilt to start and I’m also making sets of coasters for gifts. I’m also looking at making some sets of place mats from fabric in my stash.
Lisa
I’m making a fitted tablecloth for the pop-up table in the back of our Element. From fun fabric, & quilted even! My husband thinks I’ve lost it. Oh well….
I’m finally finished with wedding sewing and have started sewing some couch pillows for a customer and friend of mine. After that, I have in the line up to make a shirt for another customer and hem up 2 pairs of her pants and then I’m taking a break from customer work to focus on a new idea I have and prepare for a craft show in November!
I’ve spent the summer gaining new tailoring skills thanks to my Wonderful Sewing Grandma. (It is her official title)
So far we’ve tackled a cute fluttery summer top, we’re just putting the finishing touches onto a pair of city shorts, and next up is something for the Fall (it’s a trench coat!). It’s amazing the things you learn in a few afternoons time (about sewing and about a grandmother).
I am mostly working on sewing things for decorating our new apartment and some clothes for myself this summer… Although my latest project was a little baby blanket for a friend’s baby shower. Now I just need to make some more presents for other friend’s who are pregnant too
I’ve been sewing skirts most of the summer this year. I started a new job and didn’t want to wear pants all the time, so off to the vintage pillowcase section I went! I love them and so does everyone at work. ^-^
Now I’m looking forward to piecing together some cute fall jackets. That grommet tute will really come in handy for some very funky ways to close the jackets.
So far this oh-so busy summer, my only “sewing” project has been to clean out the old closed-in porch dumping ground and turn it in to a Project Room. Should be functional by Tuesday, and the next 2 or 3 weeks are fairly lightly scheduled, so, oh, the sewing I have planned!
I’ve been learning to sew this summer and made a stagecoach roller curtain for my bedroom and a new shower curtain with grommets! the pattern even hangs straight!
My next project is definitely something involving grommets! Yay
I have been sewing some catnip monsters for my newly aquired kittens
I have just come across this site and it is truly amazing! it is now bookmarked and I cant wait to get on to trying out some of the amazing free tutorials on here, the possibilities are endless.
I have been making a lot of quilts (in spite of the high temps) this summer to give to women in crisis. I am using fun and bright fabrics that I don’t normally use because they don’t go in my house. I love how needle and thread can expand my world.
I loved all those summer projects. Unfortunately, with a baby due this week, my sewing time has been occupied with more baby projects. I love this recap post, though. I know where to look next year. Right where I bookmarked it.
I made several smocks to give as gifts.
Latest project has been a flower girl dress for my daughter for a wedding. It was a bear!!!
My 6 year old has absolutely lived in bandanna pants this summer!
She even sleeps in them since they’re so cool and loose! I’m going to use that
pattern to make some cute and comfy pants for back to school.
Here in Florida we can use all the cool clothing we can get!
twirly skirts and cute tops for my daughter! i love free fabric friday!
The last thing I made was a Birthdy dress for my daughter and a bag and matching headbands for a swap. http://www.flickr.com/photos/joanna_silva/2711419446/
Next up is a shirt for myself and the picnic blanket w/ rock pockets from this months tutorial!
I’m making some reversible placemats, coasters and finishing up an apron (with sugar skull and rose fabrics).
I made pillows and little tote to give away ( to my family and friends).
Now I want to make to girls little dress.
Thanks a lot…
Hooray, I finished my fabric boxes project! Here’s a link:

my latest sewing project has been a mod-podge of mending and the finishing of things unfinished, like that summer shirt for the baby that won’t fit much longer, pants for boys to wear to church, and the beginnings of a waldorf doll.
I have been making some quilted coasters for both myself and gifts, and my next project is a baby quilt.
Dresses for my girls! But I’m ready to start on some curtains for our new house and a tote bag for my preschooler’s first day of school.
Thank you for the Teepee tutorial – I enlarged the pattern and just finished a 5 ft teepee for the birthday of my 5 year old grandson. He loved it! I read SewMamaSew daily and have learned so many things. I just had to say a special thank you for this tutorial.
Right now, I’m sewing an Amy Butler Frenchy bag. Lots of summer sewing took place this year. The bandana pants were a big hit. I’m getting a new sewing machine Monday…yipee!
It is said that women is in complete without jewelry necklaces and rings that makes her more beautiful. Women always try to search something that is unique and makes them more adorable. Cross necklace is one of the favorite items for women while shopping, specially made of gold.
