February 16 ~ FQ Project of the Day
Softies
Owl Softie by Star, my tiny star

Star made this owl softie from her original pattern and some Amy Butler fabric. We’re pretty sure anything goes with softies; you just need to create a creature that makes you happy. We especially love softies made from children’s drawings, like these from Lizette Greco.
Softies we love (and here’s a gigantic photo pool for you to browse too). Although we don’t have a pattern for this exact little owl, for related tutorials try here, here and here. The softie world is huge… Here’s a newer blog with some great softie-making resources, and here is Softies Central.
Share your softie link in the comments below, or point us all to related tutorials and inspiration.

Love this owl! Thanks for all the great links!
Thanks for adding another bookmark to my ever-growing list of things I want to make! The owl is so cute!
Check out http://www.thetoysociety.blogspot.com/ to find new homes for your softies. I’m not affiliated with this movement in any way except for the fact that I love the project and have made a “drop” of my own. The owl is incredibly cute! I might have to make one to drop for the toy society!
Very cute owl! I wish that there was a pattern to buy for it!
This is ADORABLE!!! I’m adding it to my “to-do” list.

That is a WAY cute owl! I love it! Adding it to my long “to-do” list.
Thanks for the idea!
I also wish there was a pattern for it, but I guess I’ll just have to take the inspiration and make a pattern of my own. That is the idea behind softies anyways, right? Thanks so much for sharing!!
I am in love with owls right now. I can’t believe how cute this one is. I think that my house is going to be filled with owl softies very soon.
Cute! Thanks for the info.
What a cute little guy. I may have to try one of these for my daughter’s birthday! Some pink fat quarters would be about perfect for that!
Adorable. I may have to jump into the world of softies!
I love the softies in that link. Very cool.
I am to embarrassed about the lack of order in my fabric closet to let you see it – but I am interested in seeing what everybody else has in their closets and how they keep organized. I don’t! I make effordless tries to fix the fabric i nice heaps, but when I want to start another project I have to try so many of the fabrics out and check them against the others, and then I’m eager to get cutting and sewing so I leave the mess for … well, I should call it later, but it’s closer to the truth to say “until I feel like taking care of it” – and that might be days or even weeks. See my problem? Second problem is all the stuff I’ve got, notions and embellishments all over my sewing room, not to mention the amount of books and the much bigger amount of quilting magazines. All are in order, but they are soooo many … not that I want to loose a single issue, I just am blind about how to get this room in order. I’m always a bit ashamed when someone comes over, but I admit to kind of enjoying the mess as I think that is one of the things that helps me find creativity inside …

I do believe I have fallen in love with that little owl. The best thing about softies is that you can make them out of any little scraps you might happen to have, and they’ll still turn out adorable.

I’m pregnant with my first child. My knitting mojo has disappeared, but has been replaced by sewing fever. Unfortunately my sewing skills are quite as developed as my knitting skills – but I’m learning. I am really enjoying the fat quarter projects (all new to me) and look forward to making a softie owl for our baby Hoot.
The daily projects continue to be inspiring. I share them with the new sewers I assist with at the quilt shop where I work parttime. They find these small projects produce grreat results and do not overwhelm them. Many thanks to all who are contributing.
The owl is so cute and the links were wonderful. Thanks as always.
Malea,
There is a wonderful elephant pattern here:
