I love those! I think they’d be great for a b-day party, baby shower, pretty much anything!
How about Oscar party bunting? Must be some appropriate fabric for that out there somewhere….
I hope to make one of these for my kid’s birthdays this year. Thanks for the idea!
Oh, I’m so excited. I’ve been thinking about making a bunting all week.
I’ve seen buntings made on several blogs I frequent, but I’ve never thought of making them till now. It looks like a fun project.
I love these every time I see them, but never seem to manage it when birthday parties are near. You mentioning it as a possibility for a kids’ bedroom has inspired me to give finally give it a try! Finally, something I can make for my boys!!!
Thanks for all the inspiration!
The Purl Bee also has a tutorial for some fun festive bunting (they call it garland). http://www.purlbee.com/mollys-party-garland/2008/7/28/mollys-sketchbook-party-garland.html
Thanks for all the great tutorials once again!
I have always loved this idea, but haven’t yet made one. I need to knuckle down and just get it done! I love the reds!
These are so cute! I absolutely love bunting and pennant banners. The Fat Quarter projects have all been fantastic so far!
Fabulous! I’ve been wanting to make bunting for birthday decorations for a while now. I like the tutorial in Soule Mama’s ‘The Creative Family’ book.
Oh I love FQ! They are great making small accessories too.
I made my daughter one for her birthday and she loves the flags that mom made. I think I need to meke more for different times of year. Thank you for all of the tutes!
I’ve seen this done with paper, but fabric bunting seems much more practical. You can reuse it!
How fun for a birthday! Or any day!
We already have some birthday bunting but this just makes me think we need more! Way more. Maybe bunting for every season and every reason?
This is such a cute idea! I’d love to make one of these for my daughter’s room.
Oooh! What a great, festive idea! Thanks
I keep seeing these buntings (which I ignorantly called banners up to now!). I really wanted one at Christmas to swag on my mantle. I hosted a baby shower last month and did one with paper – I hand-cut letters and tied them together with ribbon to say “Welcome Baby”. Can’t wait to do one with fabric!
Wish I’d had this idea when my kids were little… It would have been much nicer than the storebought cardboard “Happy Birthday”!
Very pretty! Good idea for a three year old’s b’day coming up!
WOW what a great idea! My sons birthday is coming up, will have to do this!
These would be so cute in my son’s room. I find it really hard to find cute accessores that aren’t sports/cartoon/suprehero-related
.
Since the first time I saw those popping up in Blogland I wanted to make one, never did. But sure will soon, after all the tutorials given here. These are ridicolous expensive if bought in a store and no good quality at all.
i just made some and love it!
Every time I see someone has made those cute little flags, I think to myself-how easy! Have I done it yet? Nope, but I still love it! I even have the fabric tagged for it.
I love the red colors, very nice!
i LOVE the buntings! i’ve been making them for baby gifts for a while now. i love to bring them to the baby shower or welcome party and have the guests sign the flags with their wishes/ prayers/ blessings for the new baby. it’s always so fun to see them hanging in the baby’s room afterwards! and i have to agree- they’re a great stash buster and they’re really hard to mess up. thanks for all of the links to the pics. it’s fun to see what other people have done. maybe now i’ll start documenting mine as i make them.
Great idea!! Thanks for sharing!
I love the bunting! What a great idea for almost any party!
Love it. I have been wanting to make one of these for a long time. Here’s to stash busting!
What a fabulous idea. I love the ones above the bed ( from the links ) . I think i’ll add letters to spell out the kids names
Is the pictured bunting double sided? Any info anywhere about that one in particular?
Maybe this month will finally be the month I make one of these! It’s been on my list for a year now!
What a great way to add colour to your festivities! I love FQs.
that is so so cute!!!
i love this!
How festive!
I quite like that. It’d be an impressive decorative touch, and very versatile.
The birthday bunting is my favorite project on your site… it reminds me of prayer flag!
Thank you for the tutorial!
Currently my daughter has construction paper rings hanging around her room. The bunting would be so much prettier!!
I like the fact that your making something to use again and again that replaces something you would normally throw away after using it once.
These flags are too cute! I need an occasion for them now….
That is such a great no-waste idea to use for birthday parties!
I am working on a very similar item for my daughter’s birthday right now! I love this !
I just cut out a bunch of triangles to make some buntings for my DS birthday party next month. I am making mine with a casing on the top part instead of permanentl stitched onto binding/ribbon,etc. so that I can change out the pennants if I like. I found some instructions for a similar project on the joanns website. It was a banner to hang for the Fourth of July. My DS’s will have various colors and prints including sponge bob and I can use use some of them again for my DD’s birthday later.
Great idea! I am hosting a baby shower and a banner with baby prints can be a beautiful decoration.
I’ve been looking at the fat quarter projects all week and want to try them all! I just need to get some fat quarters or make my own, right?
I can’t wait to make this for my son’s birthday. SO CUTE! Thanks for the ideas!
I’m hosting two baby showers this weekend. I don’t think I have the time to make one of these. I wish I had thought of it before. Oh well next party.
I’ve made a couple different buntings for different events, and they’re always a hit!
what luck I was sent your link for info about publishing and wow a chance to win some FQs into the bargain. thanks for the chance
I’m planning on making a birthday one to use for all our birthdays. Thanks for the tutorials.
These bunting projects are great for just about any celebration or just for decoration they are fabulous!
Love this, I’ve been wanting to make bunting.
Wow… the possibilities. I’ve only ever seen the “plastic” ones… but I really like the idea of using fabric.

This is a cute idea!
Cute idea. My son will be 7 soon and would love these for his party and his room afterwards.
So cute and inspiring!
I love buntings for birthdays especially– so much nicer than disposable decorations!
I love these as they are the perfect project for a newbie!
My bunting should read Q U I L T S ! Thank you for the reminder of this versatile project.
So cute. I need to make this. So many themes can be done boy/girl birthdays ,holidays. I can’t wait to try my hand at this.
Love it! What a cute idea.
so festive and fun.
I think a valentine’s day bunting would be cute!
So, are those double-sided? And are there instructions for the one shown? I want to make this for my nephews.
Oh! Perfect timing! I was thinking of what I could do for my friend’s wedding, and this is purrrrrrfect! Thank you! She’ll love it, and I’ll love making it!
aaaak! I’ve been wanting to make myself some bunting for such a very longggg time!!!! I love this project! I like this flickr group for bunting: http://www.flickr.com/groups/bunting/
Very cute! Love them.
The banner is really fun!
Such a cute and creative Idea. Thanks
These are so cute. I haven’t even tried yet… to make one.
I have a Kwik Sew pattern that includes the banner. Trying to muster up the energy to make it with all the other birthday-related sewing I’m doing for my son.
I’d love some fat quarters to play with!
These are adorable. I’m going to try this, this wekend.
I’ve made bunting using felt and bias tape in the past. I really like the idea of making a bunting with the alphabet on it for my daughter’s room.
GREAT bunting. I’m going to try some of this for my son’s b-day.
great! i’m about to make one of these for decorating at a friend’s baby shower. i’m so excited to finally make one!
How cute! A fast, easy way to create a festive mood! Thanks for sharing!
What a great project idea! Thanks so much for sharing!
these are beyond cute and i’ve been meaning to make some forever.
I guess I only ever thought about making a bunting for a festive occasion. I can see how it would brighten up a child’s room. Good idea for my grandchild’s room.
I love buntings! I’ve been wanting to make one for a while now. I know I have plenty of scraps to do so!
Cute! I want to make one of these with my baby’s name on to decorate his nursery with.
I keep seeing bunting and know I have to make some. Thanks for the links!
I second Alison N’s recommendation of the Purl Bee’s party garland. I just made a strand of it for my twin girls’ first birthday party. A great stash buster – this one even gets tiny scraps that I never thought I would use, but kept anyway.
How is it that I’ve never seen two of the three tutorials you linked to here (quick guess as to which one I did see – ha!)? They’re fabulous, thanks so much! I’ve got a 4th birthday coming up in a couple of months. I’ve got to make a (some?) bunting!
Gorgeous photo! I love it.
i recently made a bunting using cardstock and bias tape for my niece’s birthday card:
http://kleiosbelly.wordpress.com/2009/02/01/happy-birthday-fiona/
and i love this fabric one from susie can stitch:
http://iamsusie.blogspot.com/2008/07/birthday-bunting.html
I’ve always meant to make one of these. I just never seem to have time when I’m up against a holiday/birthday deadline. Maybe now is the time to make one for next year! They are so cute!
I love the buntings. I keep meaning to make one, but then never get around to it. In fact I have one cut out, but haven’t sewn it together yet.
Perfect timing! Just redecorating my baby daughter’s room – she’s making the big move from cot to bed! Wahhh! She’s ready, but am I???
These are so cute. I don’t have a use for them now, but if I have another little boy (far down the road) I want to do a circus themed bedroom, and this would be so cute in that theme!
I really love this idea and that picture is beautiful!
how fun!
aSprinkling & Katie– This one pictured above is double-sided… I just worked out the size I wanted and made a paper template. I cut the fabrics, sew each triangle together on the long sides with a zig-zag stitch and then I always go through and trim the long sides again with pinking shears (so they match up perfectly!). I lay the pieces all out to find the most appealing order and then I start from the center of a double-fold bias tape strip, sewing my way out from the middle to each end with a zig-zag stitch. It’s a really fun project. We have birthday bunting, Halloween bunting, bunting for friends… Fun.
–Beth
love the bunting idea–fun, reusable decoration
Great idea! My son’s 3rd birthday is coming up and this will be perfect, plus a fun go through the stash project.
Love the buntings!
Love, love, love the happy bed!
I like the buntings I’ve seen. I don’t expect to make any soon, but they’re in the back of my “possibilities!”
Love bunting! I’ve got to make some for myself…
-violet
This is a great idea!
I love the fabrics chosen for these!
I want to make some in time for our baby’s first birthday
What a fun party decoration!
perfect timing. i just bought some of that FS Robots fat quarters for my sons bday banner.
i just bought a new pattern online that i use fat quarters for – making ties for my 2 years old. they are so easy and turned out so cute!
I love all the different ideas for the bunting… I never knew whether it was called bunting or garland.
I made one for my niece’s ladybug themed birthday party along the lines of that last tutorial that you posted. I wish I would’ve known about that one sooner, it would’ve saved me time figuring out the measurements myself

Thanks for the post… I should probably start working on my daughter’s for her May birthday!
I just made some of this for a baby shower. It was all University of Texas themed, so I bought a few fat quarters of UT fabrics, cut up some worn out jeans and presto-chango, you have fun party decor.
Love this project. I may do this for every party. Then the honoree can take them home with them.
I’ve made a few flags for a bunting using the pattern from Home Sewn, by Kaari Meng. No occasion in particular, just something to brighten up the long winter.
I am excited to make one of these for the next birthday party. A great project for all of my scraps.
Those look so great! I’ve never made bunting before, but I think I need to now
Fabulous! Thanks for such nice links! Just what my winter balcony needs- some colors! a wonderful project for my weekend.
I love these things–instant festivity.
I love these – I just made some for my son’s first birthday and they really made the place more special and festive.
I’m in love with the buntings! I need some for our play room. I need to dig through my stash for a bit.
I just love these! I am making one this weekend to send with a litte boy’s birthday present. =]
I have recently been giving bunting to friends as part of their baby shower gifts. So far they have all loved it.
This would be fun to fancy up a child’s room.
I love buntings so much I have an entire category on my blog:
http://sassypriscilla.typepad.com/sassy_priscillas_craft/buntingsflagsgarlands/
Beth’s bunting is great!
I’m thinking of this for my daughter’s birthday this summer.
I’m sure if I start the project though, my husband will tell me to go buy some plastic bunting for $3. haha
I blogged about the bunting I made from one of the tutorials listed: http://hermionejschwartz.blogspot.com. Thank you so. Much for featuring this project! =]
Here’s my party garland that I made for my twin girls’ 1st birthday: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hcotten/3317772532/
i made a bunting for decoration for a friend’s baby shower [and for a take-home gift]! I’d been wanting to make one forever, and i love the way it turned out.
http://smidgebox.blogspot.com/2009/02/bunting.html
I love this idea! I have reused a paper banner for the last few years for my daughter’s birthdays and it is showing its wear. This is so much cuter!
