When I recently repainted a bedroom, the walls were bare again. Covered an artist’s canvas with batik fish print in shades of blue that coordinated with the new wall color. Instant art.
I love that! I am thinking of totally re-doing our master bedroom in new fabrics, but I have been stumped to find art that will go with the new decor. This is a perfect solution!
I’m off to the 2nd hand store right now to find a frame! Thanks for the great FQ ideas!!!
ooohh fabulous idea for afordable and original art work and at the perfect time for me!
such a simple idea, but great impact!
Great way to show off fabric. Thanks.
Love the framed fabric!!!! What a great way to showcase a pretty piece.
I think I’d have a hard time covering that up with bulletins. Gotta love beautiful and functional.
Fabric bulletin board is a great idea! I think one would look great in my craftroom or even kitchen so many projects I want to do so little time.
Interesting idea! I guess fabric is already art and whatever you do with it makes you an artist.
I have a new bulletin board that I”m going to have to do this with. Thanks.
I love this idea!
what a clever way to make a bulletin board! i need to troll thrift shops for a great frame!
What a wonderful way to showcase some of the lovely large scale prints out there right now! I’m going to have to go do a little browsing through my stash!
J
I love this idea!
What a great idea!
I love the fabric hoop bulletin boards shown on kelee81′s flicker site. They are really cute! Are they just stretched fabric or is something else put in the hoops first so you can push thumbtacks in?
Kim
I would have died for the orange pack, but I sure won’t complain about blue either. I can’t wait to try out more of the projects you guys post that can use these FQ. If I don’t win I may have to eventually go out to buy some.
I love this idea! I have everything to make it too. I’ve been wanting to add some color to my kitchen somehow and this is the perfect project to do that. Thank you!
I’ve really been enjoying the FQ projects of the day. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
yay, blue fabric! perfect for that quilt i will make someday…
I really like that they are kind of a classy take on bulletin boards. The yellow in the white frame was my favorite. I also like the picture with several line up together…very neat.
What a great use for old frames!
Great idea. I recently wrote an article about how to do make a bulletin board with a stray quilt block- but I love the idea of just letting the fabric speak for itself- especially as a framed piece of art.
Here’s the quilt block bboard link should anyone be interested: http://www.examiner.com/x-1990-Minneapolis-Homemade-Living-Examiner~y2009m1d3-Get-organized-with-stuff-you-already-own-Quilt-block-bulletin-board
i love this idea! great fabric too.
I have a bulletin board I’m keeping my eyes open for fabric to cover. A fat quarter won’t do it since its huge.
Oh that’s NICE! I can’t wait to see what’s new every day. FQ month is awesome!
Brilliant!
A sheet of metal behind and cute button magnets in front would make a great posting board as well. Thanks for the idea!
Nice idea for that special fabric that speaks to you…
I just made a memory board using a single FQ and some ribbon, rick rack, and buttons for a challenge and it turned out so cute and very usful too.
This is a great idea! Sometimes fabric is so pretty, I don’t want to cut it, so here is a solution!
Love this idea!
I have about that same frame sitting empty in my basement. What an idea!
Cool little project! I love it!

Great project for college dorm room or any room!
I really need to make a few of these. so much prettier than standard bulletin boards!!!!
oooo…a row of three like that would fill in my big blank dining room wall beautifully!–added to my list of ideas & somedays! nice!!
I love this idea of using fabric for a bulletin board cover! Pretty!
great idea.
That would make some nice, easy artwork for our bare walls!
Looks great!
What a great idea! I have an old bulletin board in the basement that needs something special to make it interesting again, so now I have just the thing.
Very nice – i have some fabric that i just cannot cut into b/c i love it so much – this would be the perfect project for that!
Sometimes fabric really should be elevated as art!
The embroidery hoops b.b. are so cute but I was wondering the same thing as Kim, in the last post. Do they have a cork backing?
This would also be cute using a few small frames, especially using several fabrics in the same line or colorway.
What a fabulous idea! I like the idea of backing it with cork… could be used as a family message board.
Hmmm… Garage Sale season will be starting up in a few months, I’ll have to start a list, and get ready to hit them, looking for old picture frames.
Thank you for this project, as well as all the other Fat Quarter posts. I am having a blast, with all the ideas and inspiration.

I love the Flickr ideas that you linked to! Thanks for the inspiration. I might even have some of those 12″ cork tiles floating around here somewhere if I didn’t throw them away when we moved last time.
What a great idea…..i am getting ready to do my daughters room…thanks again for the great ideas.
I have a pictoral tutorial for a French Memo Board on my blog. (http://designonpost.wordpress.com/2007/04/03/french-memo-board/)
i love this idea! us young couples need some good creative ways to decorate and this is perfect! Now to find the perfect frame
I’m glad i discovered your blog today! definately a fan.
Oooh i am inspired to hang up fabric all over my house now. What a great way to get inspried each day
Great idea for those fabrics that I just can’t bear to cut!
What a great way to get to look at your fabric everyday!
Love this idea. Now where do I need a bulletin board?
I’ve also seen people put them in embroidery hoops of different sizes and hang on the wall. I love these ideas!
Fabric nowadays are works of art, I love the idea of framing your favorites!
That’s a neat idea, I had been thinking of looking for a magnetic chalkboard type thing, but something along these lines might look a little nicer.
After years of trying to find wall art, we finally hung up three pieces of fabric in matching frames. Now we have one less bare wall! Thanks for the bulletin board idea! It has so many possibilities!
Oohhhh! My sister and I have been trying to brainstorm ways to brighten up her new apartment without spending a lot of money. This is great! Thank you!
Oh my, I love that! I so need something on my wall above the TV…. I think it is time to go look at some FQ!
i did this wall art:

and i have a tutorial for a cork board:
http://tracyandlizsblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/crafty-cork-board.html
it’s such a fun way to use fabric!
Great art. Great tutorials.
great ideas with the bulletin boards
This is super cool! What a great idea!
Thanks!
Neat idea for a child’s room. Francis
Lovely idea. I just finished putting some fabric in a small litlle picture frame. Really dresses up a place quickly.
I love blue and would love the chance to win some ble fat quarters! The idea is great too. I have been thinking of doing something similar for my daughter’s room.
Great idea! I’m thinking I might cover my magnetic board with fabric (taped on the back to secure it). Since I use magnets, the fabric will still be usable when I decide to replace it with something new. Thanks for the inspiration!
I love y’alls projects and can’t wait to try the framed fabric art. So nice!
It just so happened I unearthed an old bulletin board in my son’s closet. Now I need to see if I can cover it with fabric.
love the ideas I find here ALWAY need more Fat Quarter they even look nice in basket
I love this idea. I used one of your other tutorials to make a hanging for my kitchen (to match the curtains I made, also using one of your tutorials!), and it’s amazing how much it brightens things up. It’s a trick I’m sure I will use again and again. Thanks for the great ideas!
This is so great… and if I get tired of it in a frame, I can take it out and still use it!
Such pretty fabric!
What a fun idea!
i love this idea! i think i will get started tomorrow!
I’ve also seen fabric ‘framed’ in embroidery hoops and hung. Very cute idea, either way!
i am working on this right now!
Wonderful idea!
I love those fabric bulletin boards; I once made one for a friend and covered the board in quilt batting and hammered some cute shrinky-dink pins into it which gave it a nice dimensional look. Thanks for all those inspirations!
I’ve been thinking about hanging fabric on my walls at home as they are so bare and empty it’s embarrassing. Maybe this post will get me moving on that…
I love this framed fabric/bulletin board!
Great idea, maybe if I win the blue fat quarters I could use some of them. Blue is my favorite colour. Congrats to the winners of the orange pack.
Ineke
What a great idea to cover a bulletin board. It would look great in my sewing room. Thanks!
This got my mind going for a room I need to perform multi-functions! That bulletin board is so classy!
I love the idea of using your favorite fabric as wall art!
I’ve got some great prints that would work for framing. Thanks, and blue is my favorite color…
I love the idea of using fabric as a picture that would be a great way to decorate a bedroom with matching or coordinating fabrics.
What a great idea for those fabrics that we just can not bear to cut into!
This is so cool! I can’t wait to start mine!
Ingenious!
Brilliant! I have thought of doing this same thing with origami paper, but a fat quarter would work nicely, too.
I’m actually not a big fan of the art pictured, but the idea of a fabric board is GREAT!
This would be a great splash for that college dorm room to rev it up for the spring. Thanks for the seed from where many of my ideas grow out of!
I am definitely going to do this to my board. It’s way more inspiring and cheerful than plain brown cork!
This is a great idea!
I love, love this idea! I am planning a move soon and will be thinking about how to do this in my new home.
I love these ideas for fat Q’s. I didn’t know that these things were so adaptable and have avoided them — until now!
Thanks
Elizabeth
I think I’m going to have to do this with our oh so boring cork board in the kitchen!
I’m thinking of doing this with a bit of fabric from my first Home Ec sewing project — an apron, of course, in the ever-popular 60s color combination of blue and green. And I think I went to a material store to buy the fabric!!
This is a great idea! I also think it would be cute to stretch some ribbons across before framing, so you can slip in things that you wouldn’t want to harm with a pushpin…
Great idea!! Adding it to my ever growing list of to do projects.
Would make a lovely picture board for my daughter’s room with the quarters! Please enter me in the drawing!
I love the idea of these fabrics as art. Beautiful.
That’s a great idea. I hadn’t thought of using an empty frame before – it’s classy, too!
love it. I think maybe I’ll use the excess fabric from my daughter’s new quilt to make new “art” for the walls. She’ll be oh-so-coordinated! Thanks for the wonderful ideas!
I’m really in the mood to win some blue fat quarters!
The bulletin board project is a great idea, there are some great fabrics that would look very nice framed up.
Nice idea for a quilting inspiration board, and I can switch out the fabric if I find it’s perfect for a project I am working on!
Great idea! I love the idea of being able to see your fave fabric all the time – functional art.
I really like this idea. Especially the antique frame is great. I love the combination. I’ll keep an eye on the flea market stalls, hoping I might just spot a picture frame like that one…
Oooohhh… I’ve got lots of thrifed frames around here…. must try this soon!
So cool! I now know what to do with the extra fabric I have from making pillows for my oldest daughter’s room…a matching bulletin board.
