The skirt looks so (sew!) pretty.
Thank you, Emu and SMS! I love the slideshow on Flickr.
This is great! I will have to make one of these to wear to the beach this summer. Maybe some for my girls too. Thanks!
Super cute skirt! I going to download that pattern today!
What a great tutorial! Thanks so much!
That skirt is just my style, thanks for sharing this tutorial for free! So sweet. Maybe this will get my mind off of my neighbors 5 dogs that are running around trampling my flowers and garden………
Cute!! The way the pattern is written, it looks like you could make a child’s skirt out of it as well.
Thanks for sharing this! Looks like fun!
oh, this is lovely! i’m totally going to make that next week once i’ve met all my business goals…
thank you so much! I am SO going to make this skirt; your instructions are great!
I can’t wait to try this ruffled skirt, I’ve dying to sew some cute new skirts for spring.
Very cute!
What beautiful fabric!
Oh, I love this skirt. Maybe I’ll make it this weekend!
Skirts, skirts, skirts…so many but so little time!
Oh, how lovely! I love mame*’s beautiful work!
It’s snowing here in Denver, so I NEED a flirty, floral spring skirt! Thanks so much!
love the skirt!
That skirt is so cute! Thanks for the tutorial!
Another great idea! Cute!
I need to make myself a skirt. Soon. Maybe I’ll try this one minus the elastic (the rediculousness of being allergic to elastic!). Maybe a draw string?
This tutorial is well written and very, very clear. I am experienced with sewing, though I haven’t done it for a while, because I got tired of standard patterns failing to fit my non-standard shape. This is a great introduction to simple pattern drafting — thank you!
Such a cute skirt! I was just thinking how I need to make myself one or two for spring.
How kind of her to share! I love all the clothes she makes.
Very cute and springy. I like how you can customize it for your own body style.
Thanks for the skirt tutorial. I’m excited to try this one out.
Oh, I thought that I have seen this style before! Turns out that I ran across Emu’s Flickr page a few months ago. Those pajama pants with the ruffles look so comfortable and I love how she sews from mainly repurposed fabrics. I love the style of her clothing and just wish that I could read Japanese so I could order those sewing books that she gets her patterns from! Thanks so much for this tutorial and I can not wait to make a skirt for myself!
Very cute, can’t wait to get started on my own ruffle skirt!
What perfect timing this post is! I decided I was ready to try to make something with ruffles and this fits the bill.
Thanks for the great tutorial!
What an adorable skirt! I love it!
What a cute skirt! I wanted to go to the fabric store anyways…now I have a reason:)
A big “Hi” from Canada. Nice to meet you and thank you for sharing your first tutorial. Your skirt looks easy to make and oh, so comfortable.

Oooh, so cute! I think I’ll start by making a 2 year old sized one for my daughter, and then maybe on to adult ones… if only I wore skirts, there are so many cute patterns out there!
I am looking forward to making this skirt for my 3 year old niece.
I’m looking forward to putting my new Amy Butler fabric to good use! Thanks for sharing!
This is a great tutorial. I plan to make myself and my 20 year old daughter a few of these for summer.
I would love to be in a skirt barefoot this summer.
That is a very cute skirt – i’m wondering how it would look on me…for a summer feel good skirt.

Thanks for the tutorial!
I looked through several of Emu’s photo sets on Flickr and love her work! Lots of cute bags! And I love that she also uses thrifted bedsheets, pillowcases etc.
Perfect for spring – it’s finally warm enough here in MN to wear a cute skirt like this one!
I love this!
That is adorable!
I’m working on my ruffle technique since I don’t have a ruffle foot. They still intimidate me a little bit, but the ruffle on this skirt may hide my chubby knees.
I’ll have to give it a try! I already downloaded the tutorial. Thank you for sharing this with us!
Just another quick comment to say that the instructions on how to do the elastic waistband are really good! Well done.
What a pretty skirt! Thank you for the tutorial.
More skirts!!! I’m gardening and want to be sewing!! sooooo cute this skirt is.
Cute Skirt!! Love all the pics on her flickr page, gorgeous work!

Colorado has decided it’s winter again, I think this may be what I need to focus on spring- and there’s this fabric in the stash…..

*sigh* adorable… adding it to my project to do list!
Perfect timing, I was just about to make a skirt and the simpler the better I say. It’s all about fabric choice not shape. Thanks!! Keep it up.
Fun! Wouldn’t it be great if we all sewed a ruffle skirt and wore them on the same day . . . can you imagine, floral ruffle skirts taking over the nation!
Thanks for the tutorial!
With all the skirt patterns and inspiration, it looks like I really am going to have to sew a skirt for myself. Thanks!
I love the floral pattern! Keep up the nice work.
Her clothing is so great! I have several of those sheets, myself. Not sure if I could wear them as well as Emu, though
Thanks for the great tut!
I am so excited about this pattern! I love all of Emu’s creations!
I’ve been admiring Emu’s beautifully made clothing on flikr. I’m really excited about this skirt tutorial.
Thank you so much!!
I am excited to try this tutorial! I have a store bought elastic waist skirt that I love, and i know it can’t be hard to make more for myself and my little girl. Maybe even matching ones…
Really cute and easy! My favorite!
I love her vintage fabric collection! She has some really pretty stuff
so cute. I’ve been needing to make a few more skirts. Some shorter summery ones.
this is so cute…i’m going to try making a really short one so it will be good for riding a bike (with leggings). i love the japanese fabrics too! for years i had a subscription to “I Heart Sewing FEMALE” magazine…started reading it when I lived in Japan, although I never knew enough about sewing or read Japanese well enough to follow any of the patterns except really simple ones. It looks like maybe some of Emu’s patterns came from there?
This is really cute. I want to make one with amy butler fabric!
Today I have a mostly free day and planned to use it sewing. Of course, I came to SMS to get some inspiration and I think this great skirt and tutorial will be a perfect project for today. Thanks Emu for sharing your great talent. I have been wanting to tackle this type of project for awhile but have been afraid. Your tutorial is user friendly and has given me the courage to give it a try.
Thanks!! I am needing to make some skirts but I also need some tops I wish I could find a good book or pattern for some neat tops. I need breastfeeding freindly tops.
Wow thanks for that tutorial! I needed that part on how to gather the ruffle evenly. I recently made a skirt for my daughter that I had to gather and it didn’t turn out evenly and I was at a loss at how to do it right. Now I’m gonna try again, Thanks!
Alright, an easy pattern for me! Great–I might even take a break from my daughter’s summer wardrobe to make a skirt for me…then maybe we can match one day!
What a lovely skirt. I will have to make one!
Great pattern – thanks.
Love the skirt. Hope to make one for my daughter’s birthday.
I have the perfect fabric for this. Yea!

I love this skirt pattern. I want to make one!
LOVE it!! Exactly what I’ve been looking for!
What a great tutorial! I learned something new from this.
I love the skirt. I am new to drawing out patterns yourself. My first project turned out slightly off. but I think I am getting the hang of it and the skirt maybe easier than pants.
Thanks! Tina Kay
looks so comfortable and cute!
I love it -just in time to start a Spring wardrobe of skirts!
Woo Hoo!!! So glad I was able to download the pattern this time. Thanks bunches Emu!
Love this! Thanks so much for the awesome pattern!
I just finished one in a 2-3 year size for a small 3 year old’s birthday present! It looks amazing, the pattern was great, and I’m going to have to make a tag to sew into it to let them know that it is made by me and not store bought!
Thanks for a great tutorial!
LOVE IT! Linked to it!
It took me 2 nights to make this and I love it. It was super easy and fast and so comfortable. I love the casing instructions for the elastic-works great. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again for this, I just made myself one this morning and it’s the first thing I’ve made for myself that I an THRILLED with!
ok. i am definately going to try this one. thanks for such a comprehensive pattern…… hopefully i will be able to make something that resembles the skirt!
can’t wait to make one for my daughter!
What a great looking tutorial. I am going to try this just as soon as I can go and get some fabric for it. Other tutorials for skirts have confused me (despite my best efforts lol) but this one is very straightforward. Thanks! Can’t wait to give it a go.
I will definitely try this for spring!
Thanx for the tutorial, now i know how to make skirt properly.
