Very cool machine indeed! I took a beginner’s quilting class at a Husqvarna Viking dealer last weekend and got to try out the machines. They are very very very smooth sewers. I had never used a computerized machine before and thought it was very easy to use too!

Wow, funny I came to this blog this afternoon, I have spent the past 2 hours researching machines that can handle quilting projects. I love this site, I made several projects over the weekend I found in your tutorial section. I made the Spring Ruffle top this weekend and my daughters loved it so I made two more in longer lenghts for a cool summer dress. Next on my list is the laptop bag.

I bought my viking in 1992. It has no bells and whistles but it was a huge step up from my Singer 301A slant needle. It’s a real work horse, has never needed to be repaired. It has made clothing for 9 grandchildren, over 300 quilts, and has kept my home in style and decorated through all these years. I still use the old Singer and have taught my granddaughter’s to sew on it. To me my Viking is still the “new” machine and not ready for anyone else to sit behind it!

Currently I’m sewing on a machine that I’m pretty sure was intended as a child’s first machine (it’s got Hello Kitty on it) that I got on clearance for $25 a few years ago. I have a Viking Scandinavia, and just love it. The only thing I don’t like, the hoop is only 4×4, and I can’t get a bigger hoop. I use my machine for sewing and embroidery, and use it almost everyday. I would recommend Viking to anyone, and would buy another in a minute if I had the money.

I have owned the Husqvarna/Viking 940 for 25 years!!! I sew almost every day and I’ve only done regular maitenence each year to keep this baby in tip top shape. It has NEVER let me down! Many many memories were created with this machine. Love my Viking!!

I had a 6690(the first computerized) and loved it dearly……..it met an untimely demise when I moved and set it on the lower level of my townhouse, never once thinking that there was concrete under the beautiful carpet. I’ve been drooling over the Husqvarna Viking Sapphire sewing machines for a while now. It will be forever before I can afford one, but it hasn’t stopped me from looking. I love my Viking, but is is 20+ years old and basic, basic, basic.
Mary Clare: To use the sharpener you must put a drop of machine oil on it. Don’t forget to wipe the blade off after you sharpen it! The blade will not hold the edge for long but it does give you a good cut and you do end up buying less blades.

I can not bellieve how wonderful these giveaways are! My very first machine was a Viking. We moved across country twice and somewhere along the way it was given to the Salvation Army accidentally. I was devastated! I taught mysellf how to sew on that machine for my new baby. It was just a workhorse of a machine!! All the prizes are fantastic!

This ain’t your grandmother’s sewing stuff – that’s for SURE! (my sewing stuff, however, IS my grandmothers….which anyone could tell from across the room). My buttonholer is so old that it takes two hands to lift it (honestly!) and the only stitches my machine has are straight and zigzag. However, on the upside, if my house ever collapsed I’m sure that this bombproof sewing machine would emerge entirely intact and unscathed (it would take two men to lift it from the rubble, it is so heavy, but I’m sure it would still work!)
I am completely enthralled with all these modern machines and doo-dads! Sigh – it would be nice to move into the last decade, at least, of sewing technology! Keep up the great work….it’s nice to learn about what is out there, for sure ( I am completely agog….fancy stitches? speed control? self threading???? computerized??????) We’ve come a long way, baby! (well, the rest of the world has….apparently I have some catching up to do – haha).
Happy happy joy joy I would be. My viking is 36 years old. Needless to say its hard to find parts for and I have 10 grandkids that like to have grandma make matching shirts for them, and do their mending. I would LOVE to win this fantastic sewing machine. I gave mine to my daughter who wanted to learn how to sew. And then bought an older husqvarna viking 6030 machine. It has some problems such as all it will do is straight stitch and reverse. Something is messed up so that it will not zig zag or any of the decorative stitches it is suppossed to do. Received info on this from my mother….THIS IS FANTASTIC! I am so excited to read about all of you interested in sewing! I teach Home Economics, and have a Clothing/Design class. Unfortunately, I have heard the course is soon to be dropped! WHO MAKES THESE DECISIONS! It is shameful! This is a life skill. Anyway, I would love to win the machine to have as a resource, so a student could “check it out” like a library book, to work on a project at home.
I make charity quilts, so this definitely would be a blessing since my only machine just broke.

I am a new quilter and I am looking for a great sewing machine. All my research points to Husqvarna Viking. I have “test driven ” the Sapphire 870Q andI feel in love. It has all the features a quilter would want. It was so easy to use. I didn’t want the demonstration to end. It opened the door to all types of creativity. I started quilting last January and I was immediately hooked. I have several friends who are totally sold on their Husqvarna machines. I bought a Singer “touch and sew” when I graduated from high school and wore it out! I would love the features on a new Husqvarna!
Yeah, I love my old Viking Husqvarna 940 model sew much (I wore it out). Then, recently, I bought a replacement on Craigslist. AND, gues what, I think I’m being ripped off. I sent Jamie Cox in Ontario CA a check for $125.00 in July and I still don’t have the machine. Every time I call about where the machine is I get a voice mail. I leave messages and even talked with her sister… who apologized and still no machine.
