Introducing ~ Melissa
From Beth: Melissa from Checkout Girl creates some really fantastic hoops (and much more) with wool. We’d like to place her Little City Hoops & Canvases all around our homes! She’s up next with a little house hoop project, but first be sure to enjoy Checkout Girl and Little Pink House…
From Melissa: I went to college for eleven years to become a professor of literature and creative writing. And then I changed my mind. So I quit my job and emptied my retirement account, and about a year ago, I moved with my family to Portland, Maine, a town on the ocean, a town with museums and second-hand bookstores and coffee shops, a town with a fabric store, where artists live. My hope is to be one of them, so I spend my days with needle in hand, creating little scenes in wool felt. I put these bits and pieces in my etsy shop, and get this: people buy them! (I’m afraid I might be dreaming.)

Welcome Melissa. It sounds like you are one of the lucky people who get to live out their dreams. Your stitching is very beautiful & you are really talented!
This is such a great little project. I was thinking once you have the house all set up, you can have the little one’s help you decorate the outside. I know my daughter will really enjoy doing that. It helps her feel like she was a big part of the crafting process without letting her touch the needles.
Thank you so much for this great project!
Such a sweet puppy.
I love your blog. I will be regular visitor now. Your work is so beautiful and Portland Maine is one of my favorite places in the world.
What a beautiful blog and etsy shop. Welcome Melissa!
People are buying them Melissa because they are so dog gone cute!

I love the little scented house! So cute!
Maybe one day, I will work up my courage and leave my engineering career and be an artist.
I always love to hear about people who are following their dreams! I am not at all surprised that people are buying your work – I love every one of them!

So lovely. . . I love our “little city” too. I wouldn’t trade it for any other.

I never thought I would agree with this opinion, but I’m starting to see things differently.
