February 12 ~ Valentine Inspiration

Love Note Pillow by Ginny, Sweet Myrtle
Ginny created this small lavender scented pillow for a two hour “Alice and Ginny” workshop at her local arts center. You can see the front of the cushion here; Ginny writes, “The whole project is hand sewn and is very easy to achieve.”
When we asked Ginny if we could feature her photo she wrote out a tutorial just for you! Thank you, Ginny!
From Ginny ~ You will need:
- two 15cm squares of cream felted wool (or wool felt)
- one 6 cm square of red felt
- freezer paper
- red or pink fabric paint
- small scrap of double sided fusible web
- 4 scraps of fabric
- red and cream embroidery thread, split to 2 threads
- red seed beads
- stuffing
- dried lavender
To create your own little love cushion cut out two 15cm squares of cream felted wool. For the front of the cushion cut a heart stencil from freezer paper (4cm wide by 5cms tall) and stencil through in red or pink fabric paint. For the ‘LOVE’ wording chose four fabric scraps. Draw a groovy 60′s style font in reverse onto double sided fusible web (each letter should be no bigger than 3cm x 3cms). Fuse these onto the reverse of your fabric scraps and cut out. Apply to the front of the cushion and hand stitch to hold the letters in place.
For the back of the cushion cut out a 6cm square pocket in red felt. Before attaching this, stitch on a heart shape using tiny seed beads. Next blanket stitch the top pocket edge in cream. Pin this to the back cream square and blanket stitch the remaining three edges to secure.
To finish place wrong sides of the front and back cushion together. Pin and blanket stitch around all four sides leaving a 5cm gap in one edge. Lightly stuff through the gap, add a little dried lavender to scent and continue the blanket stitch to close.
Finally write a love note to your beloved and pop it in the secret pocket.

This would be a great (and easily adapted) tutorial to use with a sewing/crafting group since it’s all hand sewn and some materials could be shared and swapped to make interesting designs.
