April 28 ~ Quilt of the Day

Placemats by Anita, Bloomin’ Workshop
These are placemats but they could also be called “mini-quilts!” It’s fun to think of the many ways you can integrate quilting into projects for your home, from placemats to pillow covers to hot pads to… Quilts! Anita writes, “They were made for a placemat swap. I also made two for myself. They were made from leftover scraps and were super easy.” Anita’s design looks similar to Alissa’s Doll Quilt Sew-Along from Fat Quarter Month in case you want to give it a try with a little guidance!

Very cute. I also liked your dresden placemats.
A great way to use up scraps!
Would love to win!! Thanks for the chance.
Super cute place mats and another great blog that I didn’t know about. Not sure what the best part of this month is – the great quilts/projects featured or the great blogs that I can now look at regularly. I have to say, I’ve really enjoyed this month at the Sew blog.
How fun!
so cute!
so pretty and springy
so super clever for place mats – EVERYONE has scraps, it’s just what you do with them…
I LOVE this placemat!
I love the linen background!
oh my gosh, i’m getting all sorts of ideas for my new house. I love this little idea. make it a bit longer and it could be a cute table runner too!
What an excellent idea! I think this idea could be used as a really special wedding present too (since we’re hitting wedding season) for a new couple to grace their dining room table.
I loooove simple block quilts.
That is a very cute placemat. I love the colors.
Of course they are mini quilts! Very useful ones!
The mini patchwork idea makes so much sense, because stains on the patchwork won’t show at all. I love the idea of making placemats, but fear that my children will destroy them so soon…
These would look so great on a table!
Nice and easy and using scraps, what could be better.
Super cute!!!!!!
LOVE to make something small that can have a quick finish!
pretty and fun!
Love her colors! I want to make these. I’ll have to work on getting my edges and binding as perfectly square as hers, though. Beautiful craftsmanship!!
great mix of fabrics…love the simple squares.
These are so cute – love the colors and fabrics!
Those are so cute! Great idea and inspiration!
Simply adorable! Love the colors.
More placemats, fantastic!
Very cute! I love the background color!
I made placemats to practice my quilting techniques before trying them out on my big quilt. They are fun to do because they work up fast so you feel like you’ve accomplished something and if you mess up, you haven’t wasted a large amount of money and time.
I’ve been thinking about making placemats and this is the perfect project for a beginner quilter like me! Thanks!
Great Placemat! I may need a few of those!
This seems like a very gentle way to ease into quilting by just taking on placemats to start.
How cute these are! Love items that will use up all those scraps!
These are so stinkin cute!!
Cute!
Just charming
Now I’m inspired to try a little mini-quilt! I love this little placemat. Perfect for the little scraps!
This would be a great project for me to make for our new place- we’re moving soon!
That is cute. What a fun idea too.
So many projects so little time….at this rate, I’m going to need to live to be approximately 150 years old!
Super project idea! Thanks
I made some placemats on a whim and LOVE being able to just throw them in the wash and bam! clean table. These are inspiring to add to my collection.
Too cute to let my messy lot eat their meals off of! They’d need to be just for show!
Great pictures! My first thought is that these were huge, far bigger than the woodpile behind them…I guess the size of the project is a matter of perspective!
What a great idea for gifts!
Such a cute placemat, and I can’t help but wonder — why have I never done this?
These are super cute . . . I have been wanting to do something similar.
Love these!! I want some for my table out by the pool!!
I seriously love these placemats! I don’t want quilt month to end, each day is a new revelation.
I love that idea! They’re really cute – maybe a Mother’s Day present will be in the works here…
These are super cute, Placemats here I come!
What a great way to use up the scraps!
It is nice to have one quick project for instant gratification!
Great use for scraps!
Cute, cute!
I love all the work being done with solids and popping out the scraps to shine!
This would be a fun project for kids.
Great Project. What an awesome idea. We have a local thrift store that has 99 cent day every monday, just think of all the place mats you could get for little or nothing and make a quilt out of them. Or I could use my scraps but I might need them for something important some day.
Thanks for sharing.
thanks for so much inspiration and information!
I love patchwork placemats.
Cute placemats!
The border just makes this quilt!! What a beautiful patchwork!!
It’s true! My non-quilty friends are amazed at the things I can quilt, potholders, notebook covers, hanging organizers, the list goes on (and lots of project ideas came from SMS!)
I like this project. In fact as I saw a picture I thought it was a big bed cover quilt
. Placemats are great – I guess I’ll try to make them one day.
They’re gorgous! Now don’t you dare spill the soup
beautiful and thanks for the tutorial link!
Pretty.
What a great way to use up scraps!! How cute:)
Simple and stunning — goes to show that the fabric colors make a quilt.
This is so cute! And kind of funny… just yesterday I announced to my husband that I want to make some placemats for our new (used) patio table!
These placemats are lovely – perfect for all the scraps I have lying around!
Thanks again for the inspiration!

Placemats have been on my “to-do” list for so long. Looking at these just made them move to the top of that list.
This quilter took such a simple design and really elevated it!
Very pretty. Might be time for some new placemats.
Love this! Great to have new ideas for smaller projects! Thanks Sharonj.
