I wish I could take one of her classes. The thing I like best is the deliberate uneven-ness of the improvised blocks. It give her quilts, and her students’ quilts, movement. Now I love precisely pieced blocks-I work obsessively on my meager blocks. But this type of improvising is freeing.

Thank you for the great interview! For me being stuck in a box and trying to follow what is considered “good” or “right” when it comes to quilting and sewing is stressful for me. I am thankful for Denyse’s insight on improvisational patchwork makes me feels encouraged and inspired to move forward in my work.
