I want so bad to make one of these dresses but I’m having a problem with the elastic thread. The material puckers nicely, but when I take it off the machine it doesn’t stretch. What am I doing wrong? It is supposed to stretch, right?

Finally got a chance to make this, and it came out great. I had also never used elastic thread before. Found it at Hobby Lobby by asking one of the ladies in the fabric department. When I hand wound it, I found that it was somewhat stretched on the spool it came on, and so I stretched it just slightly as I wound it on the bobbin. When I sewed the fabric gathered slightly and then, as promised, when I ironed it it really puckered up like you would expect for smocking. It was magic! Hopefully I’ll get some photos up soon. And, hopefully, my daughter will like it I know I wish I could wear it!

Very cute dress,and I would love to give it a shot, but I can’t get the pattern to open. When I click the link, only the first page will load, and when I right-click and download, Adobe says the file is damaged and cannot be opened.

i love this! i’ve been seeing a lot of shirring lately and am loving it! i was hoping if maybe someone could help me though. i’m VERY new at sewing and want to try this project, so i was hoping if someone could show me an example of the elastic thread. maybe a link or further explanation. thanks, and again beautiful projects. and models! lol

What a fantastic tutorial. We are heading into winter in this part of the world but I might have to make a couple of these for my daughters for next summer anyway!
