Fa La La La Contributor Interview ~ Ellen
Ellen from The Long Thread rounds out our week of Christmas in July projects with her interview (and a link to her Simple Striped Sweater Stocking tutorial). Comment through the weekend on any Christmas in July post for your chance to win a copy of Fa la la la Felt: 45 Handmade Holiday Decorations!
Sew,Mama,Sew!: What project(s) do you have in the book?
Ellen: A Candy Cone to hang on the tree and fill with treats, stacked Holiday Trees made from felted sweaters and Snowflake Coasters made with a cut-out design in thick felt.
SMS: What do you like about working with felt? Do you work with felt a lot?
Ellen: I enjoy working with felt and these days prefer the thicker 2mm felt, which gives the project a sturdy quality.
SMS: Do you have any Christmas or holiday-related tutorials on your own site you’d like to share?
Ellen: I made a simple striped sweater stocking last year that I shared on my blog.

Ellen’s Simple Striped Sweater Stocking.
SMS: Do you have a favorite, go-to holiday decoration?
Ellen: My favorite thing is to fill the mantels with greenery, including cut magnolia leaves.
SMS: How about a must-do holiday project or gift that you return to, year after year?
Ellen: We always make some type of sweets — a gingerbread pound cake, iced cookies, or a gumdrop tree. Lately I’ve been interested in decorations and gifts that are vintage or edible to make a more eco-friendly holiday season.
SMS: Do you have a favorite family holiday tradition?
Ellen: My mother takes me and my daughters to see the Nutcracker ballet every year on Christmas Eve.
SMS: Would you like to share a favorite memory related to your holiday crafting or family traditions?
Ellen: Since both my children have December birthdays, I’m always up until all hours making party decorations or cleaning and decorating the house. December usually wears me out, but each year I promise to simplify.

Comment on any Christmas in July post this week for your chance to win a copy of Fa la la la Felt: 45 Handmade Holiday Decorations or a great big bundle of beautiful felt!

I love the stocking its a great size and shape and the felt mixed with the ribbed fabric is a great contrast, Id love this book. Its Christmas crafting that got me into sewing in general, I enjoy making decorations every year and last year, i decided, why should I stop creating just because Christmas is over?!, and still continue to make things at least every week.
