I guess for me it could be the Saturday Market Skirt from Sandi Henderson.
http://portabellopixie.typepad.com/PDF/SaturdayMarketSkirtFreePattern.pdf
I am already sewing the second skirt from it.
I LOVE the gathered clutch tutorial from Noodlehead. (http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html) I think it’s clear and well-written, and so stinkin’ cute.
I love Dale Fleming’s 6 minute circle technique. http://www.hgtv.com/crafting/pieced-curves-so-simple/index.html
I love machine sewing and I think circles are great. What more could a girl want?
My most used sewing tutorial of this year is the ice cream social dress from Jess at craftiness is not optional. Ive made 5 of them so far.
The best sewing tutorial has to be the puff quilt tutorials from honey bear lane blog.
http://www.honeybearlane.com/2010/07/puff-quilt-tutorial-part-1.html
It’s actually four tutorials. This is the link to the first one.

http://www.etsy.com/storque/how-to/recycled-glove-how-to-make-a-chipmunk-softie-2721/
oh gosh..there have been so many. i think the best might be the mushroom toadstools on the twig and toadstool blog.!
I haven’t gotten to try it out yet but I love The Perfect Slouchy Bag that was just posted on Sew 4 Home:
http://sew4home.com/projects/storage-solutions/660-back-to-school-the-perfect-slouchy-book-bag
My favorite pattern/tutorial this year has been Oh, Fransson’s New Wave Quilt
http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2010/03/new-wave-quilt.html
aaaahhh…love the oliver & s sewing patterns! i think ice cream dress and music box jumper are just fab and would love to win one of those!
best sewing tutorial i’ve seen this year??? that is so tough. there is so much awesomeness out there in cyber space! i have been enjoying Saba, at Sew a Straight Line so i’ll provide the link to her domesticated skirt (it’s on my “to do” list): http://sewastraightline.blogspot.com/2010/03/domesticated-skirt.html
i have also been enjoying her sewing lessons! i’ve learned so much from her!
she takes the scariness out of techniques i have avoided, but am now willing to give a go at!!!
thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
It would be great to win something. I love sewing. I love SMS!
And my birthday is in 3 weeks…
so many good ones but my ultimate favorite has probably been the market skirt by dana on MADE. http://www.dana-made-it.com/2008/07/tutorial-market-skirt.html she posted it almost 2 years ago so not sure if that would count. my favorite thats been posted this year…was actually posted on this site. the yoga top skirt. i hate waistbands that cut into my stomach but yoga pants arent always appropriate. perfect compromise.
http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=8450
The twirly skirt is still a favorite in this house. I made it for my daughter when she was one, when she was two and now at three. She still loves it. http://houseonhillroad.typepad.com/photos/twirly_skirt/
Also, the basic kimono found here http://habitual.wordpress.com/kimono/
My favourite sewing tutorial this year was the one on quilting flowers on Oh, Fransson! http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2010/06/machine-quilting-loopy-flowers.html
The flowers are such a great idea and look beautiful! The steps are explained very thoroughly and with clear photographs. It really inspired me to try machine quilting!
Sometimes its the simple tutorials that are the most helpful. This one is for pillowcases with a nice wide border. Classic. http://www.designspongeonline.com/2010/06/diy-project-pillow-shams.html I personally have a tutorial for a simple minky blanket http://sweetunwrappinglife.wordpress.com/2010/04/25/sewing-with-minky-a-simple-minky-blanket/ (sorry hope it’s not weird to post my own?) I love the simple ones because they are a great base point for your own creative idea!
My tutorial for one-thread darts!
http://uglycutedesigns.blogspot.com/2010/07/tutorial-one-thread-darts.html
Actually, I really like Elizabeth Hartman’s tutorial for the lattice quilt.
I loved the Quilting Basics series!
Hmmm.. best sewing tutorial.. I would have to say I really liked this very simple to follow pillow case dress tutorial: http://sewingmamas.com/b/downloads.php?do=file&id=17
beautiful fabrics *_*
i love the pleated pouch tutorial http://www.skiptomylou.org/2010/04/27/pleated-pouch-tutorial/

http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2010/03/new-wave-quilt.html
Thank you!
Wow! I would love to win… I am crazy about Oliver + S — and those are some great new fabrics out!
I am digging the 20-minute skirt tutorial on Whipstitch.
http://whipstitchfabrics.com/blog/20-minute-skirt-tutorial/
This one for machine applied quilt binding by Red Pepper Quilts. So well explained.
http://www.redpepperquilts.com/2009/11/binding-tutorial.html
There are so many great tutorials that it’s difficult to choose. A recent great tutorial would be the various detailed posts from Badskirt (http://badskirt.blogspot.com/2010/07/ice-cream-social-post-index.html) to help with the Ice Cream Social sew-along have been really helpful and gave me the courage to join in (and learn how to do french seams at the same time).
I really appreciated Angry Chicken’s easy lunch/snack bags. Her tutorials are always very entertaining and I love her no frills, easy as possible sewing methods. Have a look at her blog http://angrychicken.typepad.com/angry_chicken/tutorialsrecipes/
I really liked the following tutorial:
http://samstermommy.blogspot.com/2010/07/tutu-tutorial-happy-togethers-dress-up.html
It wasn’t difficult, but super cute!
Best tutorial that I’ve done this year was for my Christmas ornaments. It was these uber-cute owls. I can’t find the link, I believe the blog is no longer being updated. But, everyone LOVED these cute little ornaments and I got to use up alot of my scraps too!
This tissue cozy is on the top of my list of things to make this year!
http://dontlooknow.typepad.com/photos/how_to_make_a_tissue_cozy/index.html
Future Craft Collective did a super great Anticipation Calendar that I made for some wee friends very anxious about an upcoming trip.
http://blog.craftzine.com/archive/2009/11/how-to_anticipation_calendar.html
Open for creativity and interpretation but easy to follow!
I’ve used Splityarn’s zippered wristlet tutorial to make makeup bags for my bridesmaids, and most recently, a little bag for cousin’s graduation present. It goes together really quickly, looks great and it useful! Here’s the link to the tutorial http://splityarn.com/2007/06/01/sew-a-zippered-wristlet-tutorial.html
Thes best sewing tutorial this year??
Boy, that’s a tuff one, there is so many great tutorials out there!
I’ll pick one from the last month, ok?
Patience Pays Off: A Pettiskirt tutorial from ‘sewing in no man’s land’ blog: http://sewingin-nomansland.blogspot.com/2010/08/patience-pays-off-pettiskirt-tutorial.html
I gave my daughter a proper sewing machine for her 10th birthday and I wanted to find something she could make from start to finish by herself… I found this tutorial and it was fabulous, so straightforward and clear and step by step that she was able to make the whole skirt by herself!! All I had to do was be on pressing duty..I do draw the line at her using the iron
She was so proud of making something she could actually wear all by herself.
Since I’ve started sewing only this year, most useful tutorial was how to sew a straight line by Disney at http://www.rufflesandstuff.com/2009/08/sew-basically-sewing-strait-lines.html
This tutorial (http://mmmcrafts.blogspot.com/2009/06/basic-messenger-bag.html) is so easy to follow & makes a great bag.
Hi,from Portugal : )
the best tutorial is not easy too choose,
but this one is very good :
Pencil case tutorial at http://gluegunannie.com
Ana
While not the best-written tutorial, I used this one for turning a t-shirt into lounge pants and loved the result:
http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/oversized_t_shirt_to_comfy_yoga_pants
My favorite tutorial I’ve seen lately is the Itty Bitty Baby Dress. Probably because I know so many friends that are having girls and they are so fun and easy to make and so pretty! http://drp.ly/1zAu1n
My favorite pattern ever is Sugar City’s Village Frock! It’s a shame that the girls closed their shop, but you still can have a look on their flickr group http://www.flickr.com/groups/sugarcitydresses/pool/with/4899857813/
What a great offer! Thank you.
The shirring tutorial from “Flossie Teacakes” has changed my life. I want to shirr everything now…and it is so easy!
http://flossieteacakes.blogspot.com/
Caro at Splityarn has a tutorial for hand sewing a quilt binding that I found really helpful. Her tip for using binder clips (from an office supply store) instead of pins is genius! You can find the tutorial at:
http://splityarn.com/2010/05/12/how-to-easily-hand-sew-a-quilt-binding.html
It’s not a new tutorial this year, but since I’ve only been sewing for a year I think it counts anyway (you know, since I found it in the last year). It’s the knot dress tutorial from Everyday Chaos.
http://bridgetbaxter.blogspot.com/2008/04/happy-anniversary-to-you.html
I’ve used it a couple of times now and it’s so darn cute! (and easy – it was my first ever sewing project).
This one is my fave!
http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=5043
I am obsessed with quilting and sometimes spend hours finding an inspiration picture for my next quilt. I think that my next project will be a chubby star quilt. The tutorial can be found here: http://traceyjayquilts.blogspot.com/2010/07/make-your-own-chubby-stars-tutorial.html
I like that it is not too much information because I hate reading through all the stuff that I already know but can’t skip because then I might miss something important.
I find myself returning to Pink Penguin for small project tutorials:
http://ayumills.blogspot.com/2008/04/how-to-make-super-simple-camera-case.html
I like the profusion of prints used in the projects, too!
And Cluck Cluck Sew for small quilts:
http://www.cluckclucksew.com/p/my-tutorials.html
Color inspiration! Simple quilts with a modern flair, and great for someone like me who has been away from quilting for a bit.
Just finished a vintage apron with the help from a tutorial over at Vintage Va Voom, it helped alot! Please enter me as I have a addiction for fabric and my only outlet is Walmart! Thanks! Sue
This is my go to little girls birthday gift tutorial of the year. http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=8450 I match that up with a t-shirt (I either leave it plan or appliqué something from the skirt fabric on to it.
Well, this tutorial wasn’t posted this year, but I discovered it this year, so I hope that counts. I LOVE this kneepad pant tutorial by Dana Made It (well, actually I love ALL her stuff, but this is my favorite.) I think the pants have such great style and since my kiddos forever have holes in the knees of their pants, this tute also helped me solve a problem. I have used this tute with knit, linen and cotton fabrics all with great results. Best of all, the pattern is perfect for girls AND boys. http://www.dana-made-it.com/2008/07/tutorial-knee-pad-pants.html
Even though it was from two years ago, I only found it this year. But I think Dana’s Peeps Bunting is hysterical and adorable. http://www.dana-made-it.com/2008/07/tutorial-peeps-bunny-bunting.html
I love all the tutorials out there. I had nobody to teach me sewing, but learned all by myself with the tremendous help of tutorials out there. I especially love these two this year because of their simplicity and both were a super success when I made them the very first time.
http://www.ikatbag.com/2010/01/dress-for-winter-iii-very-simple-jumper.html
http://fromanigloo.blogspot.com/2010/05/in-garden-shirred-twirly-dress.html
Prudent Baby linked to these awesome baskets by The Mother Huddle. http://www.u-createcrafts.com/2010/07/creative-guest-hanging-storage-baskets.html Lots of ways I can think of to use these!!
My favorite are Grosgrain’s Frock by Friday tutorial. While it’s great for beginners I love it because it keeps me on task and shows me that “yes, I do have time to sew nearly everyday”
I personally like http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=488 which taught me how to do finishes since I don’t have serger. It was SUPER helpful!
I love the Castle Peeps Travel Play Set tutorial by Whipstitch at http://whipstitchfabrics.com/blog/castle-peeps-travel-play-set/. So clever and so much fun!
The 90 Minute Shirt Tutorial – So great for boys and girls.
http://www.dana-made-it.com/2008/07/tutorial-90-minute-shirt.html
It wasn’t posted this year, but I just found it recently.
I just finished making two cathedral window pillows based on a tutorial on Heather’s blog at a la mode fabrics. She said it was ‘easy-peasy” and it was. Stunning results!
I can’t wait to try the pieced t-shirt tut. All of my kiddos like it and that is saying alot. It’s unsual to please a 10-year old girl, 9-year old boy, and 2-year old girl with the same pattern.
heather
I love the tutorial for these snack sets at JCasa : http://jchandmade.typepad.com/jcasapatterns/2010/04/quilted-patchwork-snack-sets.html
http://houseonhillroad.typepad.com/photos/twirly_skirt/#tp
Ok, so I don’t know if this is from this year, but since I only started sewing in April…..for me, it’s from this year. Step by step perfection. This is the first garment that I’ve made as an adult and it looks fantastic
My favorite patterns lately are from LittleBlueBoo (http://lilblueboo.blogspot.com/). They are PDF patterns and are easy to put together as well as fast and easy to cut and sew. Plus Ashley gives tips for working with knits and ways to change the pattern to make your items truly one of a kind.
My favorite tutorial was the one for the lunch bags – so much nicer than the lunch bags you can buy at the store. I love to use vinyl for these which makes them nice and sturdy and well insulated. Thanks for the chance at the fabric or pattern drawing.
There are so many great tutorials…it’s so hard to know which is my favorite. But the gathered clutch from Noodlehead is so much fun:
http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html
love the fabric and pattern choices!!!
This: http://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2009/05/finishing-quilt-tutorial.html
Quilt Binding Tute from Diary of a Quilter was so immensely helpful to me when I just couldn’t seem to get it right. All of the pictures are the best part.
This gathered clutch is so cute and quick and easy to make. Nice when you are in a pinch and need a purse to match an outfit!
http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html
Love that new Alexander Henry Line farmdale!
Not sure if it was this year, but I loved the buttercup bag.
Hi there! my favorite sewing tutorial is on Quiltville.com, and it’s the one for making a “Scrappy Trip Around the World”. Not only are the directions clear and concise, there’s a picture of every step. It’s actually my favorite sewing tutorial in general, not just this year. Although, this year, I’ve discovered you tube tutorials from Whitney Sews that I also like, and think they are perfect for the younger crowd due to their shorter attention span, lol. I LOVE the Quiltville utilitarian philosophy and really admire her use of every little scrap. Talk about the WOW factor, she is super organized and comes up with some brilliant quilts. Yes, you guessed it…I’m a HUGE fan!
This quilt binding tutorial: http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/2008/10/binding-tutorial.html
I couldn’t have finished my first quilt without it!
this video on how to shirr fabric…it came at a perfect time since i was having so much trouble with the skirt sew-along!
http://grosgrainfabulous.blogspot.com/2010/08/technique-tuesdays-shirring.html
Wow there are alot but the best for me is:
http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2010/07/full-and-fluffy-pettiskirt.html
Pettiskirt tutorial. I have a little girl that is getting one this summer!!!
I really love the Oh Fransson Dresden Plate tutorial for quilting!
The best sewing tutorial I have seen this year was this one on the Uhandbag blog: http://u-handbag.typepad.com/uhandblog/2010/06/free-bag-purse-pattern-the-love-basket.html A great roomy sized bag to carry all your bits and bobs in.
I love this quilt! I just finished making it and can’t wait to give it to the Mom.
http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2010/03/charm-squares-baby-quilt-redux.html
My fave tute has been the lunch bag post — admittedly there were gobs of links on that post to various types/kinds of lunch bags, each with their own link. My fave from that post http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=9954 was the Vintage Pillowcase Lunchbag. It’s versatile enough to make a cute purse out of also!
I would *love* to win some fabric! jaynabug @ gmail.com
I think it would have to be Jennifer’s free top tute…I was going out one evening and didn’t have anything to wear but knew I had the right fabric in my stash, so 1 hour later I ended up with a great top (love it when it’s quicker to make something than drive to shops!)
http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=8666
Thanks for the chance to win
This bird mobile is super cute as a beginner it is something i can do.
http://www.spoolsewing.com/blog/2008/05/16/bird-mobile/
I like The Pink Penguin’s patchwork basket tutorial!
I really enjoy Rae’s Spring Ruffle Top (right here on SMS). The instructions are very simple to follow and the result is perfect for a sunny spring (or summer) day.
It’s hard to pick a “best” because there are so very many!!!
The one that’s highest on my to-do list right now is a sandwich mat and cover that Elizabeth Goodman featured on her blog To Be Charmed.
http://to-be-charmed.com/2010/04/29/diy_sandwich_wrap/
I have plans to substitute mylar (I buy large mylar bags for food storage and will repurpose one of those) for the plastic to improve it’s food-grade safety!
I really enjoyed making the spider web quilt blocks from this tutorial at a la mode fabrics!
http://alamodefabric.blogspot.com/2010/06/spider-web-quilt-block-tutorial.html
I’m really loving Made By Rae’s Itty Bitty Baby Dress right now. So versitile and perfect for shower gifts!
http://www.made-by-rae.com/2008/04/free-itty-bitty-baby-dress-pattern.html
I didn’t see it until this year, but I’m guessing it’s been around for a long time – but the most helpful and incredible tutorial for me was Elizabeth at Oh, Fransson!’s Free-Motion Quilting tutorial (http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2009/03/quilt-along-14-freemotion-quilting.html). It literally changed my life!
hmmmm…there are so many really good sewing tutorials out there….hard to name the best. I really like Oliver + S tutorials. I’ve made the popover sundress, the lazy day skirt and the ruffled halter this summer. All are easy to follow and versatile.
I love collecting men’s shirt refashion ideas. I haven’t gotten to try but one. When I get the time, though, I’ll have plenty to choose from. This is one of my favorites. I love the sweet details. http://brisprojects.blogspot.com/2010/05/petal-sleeves-and-tulip-pocket-dress.html
This Border Fabric Sundress tutorial is so simple and the dress I made from it continues to receive rave reviews. http://lilblueboo.blogspot.com/2009/06/border-fabric-sundress-tutorial.html
I’m pretty new to sewing and love making things for my little ones… this tutorial for reversible pants is pretty simple, and was fun to make. And the pants are just adorable. It also works well to use a knit fabric on one side, (maybe with an applique) and a woven on the other… gives the pants a really nice weight. http://imakestuff4fun.blogspot.com/2010/01/tiny-heiny-valentiny-reversible-baby.html
My favorite is the 2 Layer Twirly Skirt from Polka Dot Chair. http://www.polkadotchair.com/2009/03/skirt-tutorial.html
I’m most excited about making these bunnies: http://chezbeeperbebe.blogspot.com/2010/03/tutorial-and-pattern-recycled-mooshy.html
since there are lots of new babies in my life recently.
This one just came out the other day on the Moda BakeShop site and I absolutely love it and can’t wait to pick the perfect jelly roll and start sewing!!
http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/08/strip-pieced-pleated-skirt.html
I love this Reversible Charlie Bag tutorial. The bag is so simple, a great size and shape, and easy enough to whip out in an hour. http://verypurpleperson.com/2010/04/making-reversible-bag.html
i suppose by “favorite” it means the one i make the most?
if so, i’m going to have to go with this really simple and super cute owl softie. i love the size – perfect for little ones to snuggle with!
http://www.oneredrobin.com/stuff/Oh-Oh_Owl_Cushion_Softie.pdf
I’m teaching myself to quilt, so I used the SMS Doll Quilt tutorial for my first project to build my confidence. It was just what I needed!
i totally have noodlehead’s gathered clutch on my list of things to make!
http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html
Cathedral Windows from Hyena In Petticoats
http://hyena-in-petticoats.blogspot.com/2007/08/cathedral-window-quilt-tutorial.html
I love this sewing tutorial by iveyc95:
http://iveyc95.blogspot.com/2010/04/line-ruffle-front-dress-tutorial.html
She makes such lovely clothing.
I haven’t done a ton of sewing this year but I loved the Twirly Skirt tutorial!
http://houseonhillroad.typepad.com/photos/twirly_skirt/
There are SO many! Being the to-do-list-a-holic that I am, I can’t wait to crank out a few portfolios. I plan to make one for my handbag, one for my diaper bag, one for my nightstand, and a couple for my truck (one for me and one in the backseat for my 4-year-old to doodle on).
http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=10041
Two weekends ago I needed a quick baby gift and always wanted an excuse to make the little Itty Bitty Baby dress over on Made by Rae. Talk about super simple and quick. Once the fabric was washed and ironed this little dress with complete in less than 60 minutes. http://www.made-by-rae.com/2008/04/free-itty-bitty-baby-dress-pattern.html
As someone who is fairly new to sewing, and self-taught, I found this tutorial on sewing a collar stand to be very helpful. I had a “simplicity” pattern (I think the name is quite ironic)! for a little boys shirt, but was completely confused by the collar, which wasn’t supposed to even have a stand… but this tutorial really helped, and the shirt came out pretty good. Hopefully the next one will be even better.
http://www.cedesign.com/familyphotos/sewing/collar/index.html
I think that often-times, people doing the tutorials already know how to do it, and don’t always anticipate where a newbie will get lost and need more step-by-step help.
I tend to fall in love with my fabrics, so I hate to cut into them and start sewing until I feel like I really understand what the pattern/tutorial is telling me to do…
It is also really helpful if a tutorial gives teh “big picture” statement before each set of steps …”now we’re going to attach the collar stand to the collar” so it’s really clear what you are trying to accomplish.
By the way, thank you for putting up SUCH a great site – It’s the next best thing to having a real sewing teacher! And lots of great inspiration too! Great job!!!
Well, it was posted last year (but I didn’t find it ’til this year), but…this tutorial on steam-shrinking a waistband has been a LIFESAVER for so many pairs of jeans which I loved…but couldn’t wear because of too-loose waistbands (stretch denim: love it in the a.m., HATE IT and my baggy butt by p.m.).
http://thebitchinstitch.blogspot.com/2009/11/steam-shrinking-waistband-or-sewing.html
Yoga skirt (http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=8450). It’s so easy, fast and super comfy!
That Ava Rose tote is adorable.
My favorite tut is Craftstylish’s “How To Cover a Button” http://www.craftstylish.com/item/6550/how-to-crochet-a-button
What a great idea & the variations can be endless & oh so pretty! Thanks for a great blog! Susan

I really love made by rae’s baby tights tutorial. Although I have not actually tried it yet, its on my list.
http://www.made-by-rae.com/2010/03/free-baby-tights-pattern.html
Love these fabrics!!!
I love the pattern and tutorial for the gathered clutch that Noodlehead has on her blog. I’ve made six or so of these and they make wonderful gifts. http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html
Love the Alexander Henry Fabrics so pretty for fall
I really like grosgrain’s flock by friday tutorials: http://grosgrainfabulous.blogspot.com/2006/07/frock-by-friday.html
The gathered clutch from Noodlehead: http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html
I made it for a friend and will make one for me, it’s great as a clutch but also to store needles and sewing supplies.
Thanks for your giveaways !
I am still learning how to sew so I’m not out there hunting for the most complicated of tutorials. I found this one on refashioning a man’s shirt into shorts: http://www.saltwater-kids.com/2010/05/shorts-from-a-mans-tshirt-tutorial-.html
I haven’t tried it yet, but I plan on making a pair as soon as I finish up a few other projects. Here, in Texas, we still have plenty of summer time for me to make a pair.
I have a bunch of favs, but here’s one that I can’t wait to try:
http://www.thetraintocrazy.com/2010/07/go-to-dress-pattern.html
My favorite tutorial this year (so far) was the skirt posted on Sew Mama Sew back in June or July. I loved it so well, I made 2! http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=8154
My favorite tutorial is the Warhol Dress I found on made.com
this cathedral window square tutorial is totally on my list of ones to try (two parts):

http://alamodefabric.blogspot.com/2010/03/cathedral-windows-part-two.html
I love that new Alexander Henry Farmdale fabric! The best tutorial I have seen lately is from Make it Perfect for a “peek-a-boo toy sack”.
http://tonicoward.blogspot.com/2010/06/peek-boo-toy-sack-tutorial.html
My favorite SEWING tut is “A Simple Chinese Ornament” http://www.craftpassion.com/2010/02/sewing-tutorial-simple-chinese-ornament.html How pretty & sew simple! The variations of color are endless! Thanks for a great blog. Susan
i really like this tutorial for reusable snack bags!

http://www.dana-made-it.com/2008/07/warhol-dress-pattern.html
I love this little dress. I made one for my daughter and I’ve made 3 others as gifts for other little girls.
I love the cherry blossom print in turquoise and the peekaboo dress pattern! So cute!
I like the skeggings tutorial. I have not made them yet but I am going to try them. Thanks so much for the tutorial.
The best tutorial of this spring/summer for me has been the “Leisurely Dress” tutorial here on SMS. It gave me the courage to try shirring with elastic thread and now I feel totally confident with the technique. The best tutorial of the winter was on how to use a rolled hem foot. I found it in an issue of Threads magazine.
My favourite would be Elizabeth Hartman’s Mod Sampler. I made my first quilt using this quilt along tutorial, and I’ve learned so much!
http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/quiltalong.html
Thanks to a minor addiction to Prudent Baby, I have been finding TONS of cute baby-related tutorials. But this bonnet is my hands-down fave. http://www.prudentbaby.com/2010/01/fleece-bonnet.html
The best tutorial I’ve seen this year is from Missouri Quilt Co Youtube on how to make quick and easy HST by sewing around the square and cutting diagonally. Super easy and quick. Thanks!
The best sewing tutorial I’ve seen this year has been an embroidery machine tutorial for doing onesies! I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to get that tiny little thing on the hoop and this tutorial made it easy peasy!!! Love it! Here is the link: http://www.swakembroidery.com/swak101_embroideringbabybodysuit.htm
I recently came across this Puff Quilt Tutorial on HoneyBear Lane. My sister is expecting her first baby and I’m so excited to make one for her!

http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=7107
I love this tutorial, because I used it and came away with a perfectly good skirt that actually fits me!
http://freshlypicked.blogspot.com/2010/02/elastic-waist-skirt-tutorial-mama.html
I love all the tutorials that Melissa at the Polkadot Chair does. My favorite that I made this year has to be The Little House Pouch from the long thread though. I made 4 before I could stop;) Thanks!
I love making bags – so I think this one is my favorite this year:
http://sew4home.com/projects/storage-solutions/636-baby-gifts-pretty-bird-quick-trip-diaper-bag
It would have to be a boxbag tutorial–Dragonfly something. I have tweaked it a bit and have probably made 15-20 for gifts. I usually fill them with inexpensive beauty/travel supplies for my schoolage daughters birthdays.
I like the Posh Pillowcases at yougogirl.typepad.com. These are so lovely!
I love those farmdale fabrics!
This one: http://www.redpepperquilts.com/2009/10/tutorial.html It sticks in my mind because I LOVE the quilt. So simple, yet so beautiful!
This modern take on the classic pillowcase dress is super cute on my daughter! You’ll love the tutorial!
http://www.simplymodernmom.com/2010/04/retro-ruffle-dress-from-a-pillowcase/
One of my favorite tutorials I’ve seen this year has been this one for chair covers: http://www.dana-made-it.com/2010/03/orange-you-glad-oilcloth-chairs.html.
I love Elizabeth of Oh Fransson and her New Wave quilt pattern is definitely my faouvarite so far this year!
I have seen many excellent tutorials, but I really loved this one for a patchwork iron board cover. I hope to make this one soon.

I’m another one who loved the Noodlehead Gathered Clutch Tutorial!
http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html
Love it!
I have used this feliz pattern tutorial several times now. It was a great help.
http://trilliumdesign.blogspot.com/2008/11/feliz-sew-along.html
This child’s play tent is super easy and adorable! I am a preschool teacher and have made one for my classroom and another for a fellow teacher. Now I’m off to make 2 for my mother’s coworker.
http://2littlehooligans.blogspot.com/2010/06/play-tent-tutorial-is-finished.html
I love this tutorial on how to do invisible zippers by Sew Katie Did. I had been so intimidated by them for so long, but it’s really easy. I made a pillow using this tutorial and I’m going to make many more.
http://sewkatiedid.wordpress.com/2010/04/24/zip-to-your-pillow/
Love it !
What a great question! Having so many links and resources in one thread is awesome! Best tutorial this year… It’s a tie between Anna Maria Horner’s Museum tunic as made by the Southern Institute for Domestic Arts and Crafts http://www.thesoutherninstitute.com/2010/06/anna-maria-horner-museum-tunic-tutorial.html
AND
Cherri House’s Welcome Spring quilt at Moda Bake Shop. Easy, Modern, Lovely. http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/04/welcome-spring.html
There are tons of great tutorials out there, but the one that has had the most impact was a binding tutorial at Moda Bake Shop (here: http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/08/binding-with-jelly-roll.html). I’ve often used jelly rolls for binding, but finishing it up was always a half-hour, many rip-outs, process. This made my day, and I’m happy to say I no longer dread binding!
I love the tutorials over at Made by Rae: http://www.made-by-rae.com/ and Sew Many Ways: http://sewmanyways.blogspot.com/
Kelly
I saw a really cute on in Green Craft magazine for pin cushions on tiny jars and I have made several of them because they are so easy and super cute!
I love the 1st Quilt Ever Tutorial at Obsessively Stitching.
http://obsessivelystitching.blogspot.com/2010/04/first-quilt-ever.html
I wanted to try a new to me technique and I think this one was my favorite in the past couple weeks…I think my favorite changes monthly or so lol
http://grosgrainfabulous.blogspot.com/2010/08/technique-tuesdays-shirring.html
The Saturday Market Skirt from Sandi Henderson is a favorite of mine. I also have Sandi’s book Sewing Bits & Pieces which has the pattern (pages 140-143).
http://portabellopixie.typepad.com/PDF/SaturdayMarketSkirtFreePattern.pdf
The chickens on Farmdale fabric are so cute. And, of course, Elizabeth’s quilts are always elegant.
Since I have reentered the sewing/craft world I began with the Pinwheel Dolly Quilt tutorial from V and CO : http://www.vanessachristenson.com/2010/01/tutorial-baby-doll-quilt.html
I just love her site and my daughter loved the quilt
I still love Elizabeth Hartman’s spring bag. Turns out so beautifully and so easy! http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=794
I love the lunchbag tutorial here on your site. I am a beginner sewer and I have already made three!
I’ve enjoyed the fat quarter handbag tutorial here on SMS. I’ve made four bags so far as gifts and they get rave reviews!
http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=737
I haven’t had a chance to make it yet, though I should make the time b/c it would be really useful! A cute Casserole Carrier.
http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/07/casserole-carrier.html
A quilted toiletries pouch tutorial – so easy and FUN!
http://kellyrachel.com/blog/2010/06/15/make-a-bag-sew-along-toiletries-pouch-tutorial/

Definitely Ashley’s string quilt paper piecing tutorial: http://www.filminthefridge.com/2009/04/27/a-string-quilt-block-tutorial-paper-pieced-method/
http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html
I know it was already mentioned but I thought it deserved a second plug. This tutorial is crazy fun and easy – done in less than 2 hours – and can be modified in hundreds of ways to personalize for yourself or a friend.
I keep Jennifer Casa’s Summer top bookmarked:
http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=8666
I am waiting to get a few minutes to make it!
That’s a tough one, I’m going to say something from Dana at Made…like The WARHOL Dress PATTERN that she has posted for free.
http://www.dana-made-it.com/2008/07/warhol-dress-pattern.html
This wasn’t made this year, I think, but I found it this year – http://duhbe.com/blog/?tag=clothing-labels
A great tutorial for labels.
It’s not new, but I loved the steps for the Buttercup purse (I think that’s what it’s called.) It was the tutorial that got me to start sewing things other than simple bibs and towels for friend’s baby showers, and start sewing more complicated things for myself!
I love the skirt sew along, I just bought 3 more fabrics to make it with:)http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=8154
I swear I am not sucking up by saying this–my favorite is the Dresden Plate tutorial from this very blog.
What a great theme, well really all of your themes are great! thank you, it must take a lot time and energy to pull it all together.
yikes. I haven’t been able to try any tutorial yet since my daughter was born early this year. I’m just now starting to think I’ll be able to find time to sew again.
i am new to sewing clothes, so i appreciated the great instructions on how to do a french seam from SewNeau. http://www.sewneau.com/how.to/french.seam.html
OK, I looked up both of my favorites and they are both from last year.
String Quilt by Film In the Fridge http://www.filminthefridge.com/2009/04/27/a-string-quilt-block-tutorial-paper-pieced-method/
Wonky Stars by Sill Boo Dilly http://thesillyboodilly.blogspot.com/2009/02/wonky-star-tutorial.html
Hope these count!
You just cant beat a sew mama sew give away. I would happily give up my chances to win the lovely things being offered today for the honor of winning the serger.
I’ve been bookmarking tons of tutorials lately…this one from Prudent Baby is adorable and worked well for me!
http://www.prudentbaby.com/2010/05/snappy-toddler-top-free-downloadable.html
I think my favorite is the Fat Quarter Baby Dress from the Polka Dot Chair. So cute and so simple!
http://www.polkadotchair.com/2010/06/tuesday-tutorial-fat-quarter-baby-dress.html
I am enjoying checking out everyone’s favorite tutorials. I’m finding so many new things to try! My youngest loves skirts and dresses, so this tutorial is great:
http://trilliumdesign.blogspot.com/2010/05/skort-stack-2010-skegging-morph.html

http://ohsohappytogether.blogspot.com/search?q=sailor
My favorite tutorial is always the newest one that I haven’t had a chance to make yet…so here’s my fave today:) I love No Big Dill! It’s one of those blogs that I NEVER miss reading. These fisherboy shorts are super cute, super easy, and the perfect summer/fall transition piece:)
http://www.maryjanesandgaloshes.com/2010/08/making-your-own-patterns-with-no-big.html
And that Farmdale makes me giggle:)
Everything in the “Clothes for Boys” tutorials was great! I have all kinds of projects and tutorials for my daughter but so few for my son. I have so many projects now lined up for him, I can’t wait to get started! Now if only my house could clean itself…
I don’t need any fabric, but just wanted to say this is an awesome (as my 5 yo would say) collection of tutorials! We’ve just got to get a computer and internet for the sewing group I help with. The women would love this, and it would really help inspire and resource us for learning new things together.
I recently made Jennifer’s Free Summer Top-Undaunted. Super easy, quick and cute. Just what I needed!
Amy Karol’s foldover snack bag tutorial is not only super cute to watch (my girls watched it with me) – but the snack bags are so (so) fast and easy to make. I wish I had this last year – but we are going to be ziploc free this year!
http://www.youtube.com/user/akarol123
http://tutorials.missouriquiltco.com/
I really like the tutorials that Missouri Star Quilt Co. puts out. They are fun and simple and easy to follow.
I’ve learned everything I know about sewing from blogs and tutorials. My favorite place to get my information thus far is of course Sew Mama Sew! And Oh Fransson.
I think the best thing I’ve found, and I still go back to when I need to refresh my memory on tricky things, would be http://sewmamasew.com/tutorials.php
..especially the “quilting basics” posts, those seriously soothed my jangled nerves about quilting!!!!
and just to throw this out here
http://heatherbailey.typepad.com/photos/continuous_quiltbinding/index.html
that one really helped me with binding!!
I just want to say thank you wonderful ladies for helping me learn so much and put my mind at ease about something I really was nervous about learning!
Mandy
Yikes, there are too many great tutorials to pick just one. The ones I’ve been using lately are for making hexies – lots of people have done these and I like being able to look through them all and see what most people think works best.
The one that intrigued me the most recently was for making a faux piped binding for quilts. I’m going to make a mini quilt soon just so I can try out this binding technique. Here’s the link:
http://tlcstitches.blogspot.com/2010/07/faux-piped-binding-tutorial.html
My favorite tute is Pink Penguin’s patchwork fabric basket! I’ve made a couple of these and they all turned out awesome!
http://ayumills.blogspot.com/2008/05/tutorial-fabric-basket.html
I like this – great for dress ups

First of all, what a great way to swap tutorials!
I guess I would have two. The first would be Oh Fransson’s Margaret bag;
http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2008/11/margaret-sling-bag.html
The second would be from Juicy bits;
http://juicy-bits.typepad.com/juicy_bits/2009/03/83-baby-blanket-gift-set-part-1.html
This one includes a baby blanket, bib and burp pads (the perfect gift for a new baby!)

Easily, my favorite was: http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2009/03/quilt-along-14-freemotion-quilting.html. It gave me the confidence to start quilting!
I love tutorials. I just organized all the ones I have printed and I have a binder completely full.
I love the Zig Zag Quilt Tutorial

Super easy and looks so cute on all shapes and sizes of women.
So hard to choose, but right now I am loving all bags and want to work on these next: http://www.morsbags.com/
Fondly, Roberta
which I discovered through your site. I’m all about being green and saving the environment for my grand-babies
This skirt turned out so cute & it was easy enough for me to follow along. I was really happy with the end result. I got the man’s shirt from goodwill for $2, so that’s how much the whole thing cost. You can’t beat that!
http://www.adventuresindressmaking.com/2010/04/one-of-greatest-mens-shirt-makeovers.html
This twirly skirt tutorial made me an addict: http://www.kukyideas.com/journal/2006/07/tiered-skirt-tutorial.html
See my versions at my blog: http://lifesewbeautiful.wordpress.com/2010/07/02/twirly-skirts/
So many wonderful suggestions. I don’t know if anyone has already mentioned this one, but this is a great stashbuster for quilters.

I really like this tutorial:
http://www.pleasant-home.com/2009/11/snowy-peppermint-table-runner.html
I actually haven’t gotten to make it yet, but I think she explains it so well, and my friend and I are going to make an autumn one each.

http://seemommysew.wordpress.com/maternity-skirt-tutorial-the-gwenna/

http://www.dana-made-it.com/2008/07/tutorial-90-minute-shirt.html
I best tutorial I found is right here on the blog, Installing a Zipper, http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=87.
Zippers and I used to mortal enemies but no longer thank to Michelle.
I love the Lemon Squares quilt tutorial on the Fresh Lemons Quilts site.
The tutorial that I have gotten the most use out of this year is Oh Fransson’s Charm Squares Baby Quilt. I have made 8 baby quilts this year as gifts using this pattern and everyone has loved them. Oh Fransson’s tutorials and free downloads are easy to read, great photos and they quilts look great. I can’t wait for her book!
http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2010/03/charm-squares-baby-quilt-redux.html
I keep meaning to make the bagsket at http://foofanagle.wordpress.com/2007/06/26/bagsket-tutorial/

I love the new Alexander Henry collection! Those little roosters are so darn cute! My favorite tutorial I’ve read this year is by Megan at the Bitchy Stitcher. How to Sew Binding Onto a Quilt for Beginners:
http://thebitchystitcher.blogspot.com/2008/10/how-to-sew-binding-onto-quilt-tutorial.html
I laughed and laughed when I read her tutorial! It made me think of the first time I had to do a binding without my Mother in Law’s help and how I did my own version of flailing around at each corner. And then I poured myself a drink!
http://www.sewmamasew.com/store/media/blog/SMSJCasaLeisurelyDress.pdf

I like this one
http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2009/03/cloth-baby-rings.html
I am new to sewing and I am about to finish my third pillow case dress. There are soooo many tutorials out there but the one I used to guide me along was from Make Me Pretty etsy shop.
These responses are like a treasure trove of possibilities! I’m having fun going through each one and checking out the links!
This sew-along is forthcoming: http://www.blogforbettersewing.com/2010/08/blog-for-better-sewing-sew-along.html I am in love with Collette Patterns and will take the help I can get making my pieces turn out beautifully!

i found this tutorial to be eyeopening..maybe not the best, the definitely the one i plan to use in the near future!!
I’m pretty simple, but the best tutorail I’ve seen is for a baby car seat cover. It’s a great quick and easy gift to make for expecting mothers. The cover is perfect because when you have a new born you don’t want every one is stop and see or touch your baby. The cover just covers their seat and then people assume they are sleeping.
I love making things for my little one. I REALLY love when what I am making is simple, easy, fun, and cheap. This tutorial has it all!
http://littlebirdiesnest.blogspot.com/2009/03/easter-legs-another-baby-legs-tutorial.html

For a newbie quilter: all of Elizabeth Hartman’s quilt making basics.

http://www.made-by-rae.com/2009/02/free-buttercup-bag-sewing-pattern.html
I’m really liking the 20 minute skirt. With a toddler and a little one on the way, the idea of adding something cute to my daughter’s wardrobe without it taking too long is absolutely exciting!
I found this cute little toddler backpack by indietutes and made several..then i enlarged the pattern and made a preschooler size.. they are SOO easy to make and no lining required!! I think its about a year old but i just found it last month lol..i see some of that fabric in the giveaway and am drooling to make more with it!!
http://indietutes.blogspot.com/2009/10/toddler-backpack-pattern.html
I love everything about Sew, Mama, Sew!! There is sooo much that I want to try!
I’m not sure I can pick just one tutorial as the best so I’ll share with you the one that I’ve used the most in the last few months! It’s by Piece N Quilt a simple and SUPER easy receiving blanket tutorial! I have made them for at least 5 baby showers so far this year!
Check it out here:
http://piecenquilt.blogspot.com/2009/06/self-binding-receiving-blanket-tutorial.html
Oh Franson had this amazing tutorial on how to quilt flowers… maybe I can dig around the internets and find it. It looks so effortless when she does it!
I’m just about to start leilaandben unisex vest for my son. I can’t wait to see him in it with his new skinny jeans
I love tutorials! I have used the Noodlehead gathered clutch tutorial to make 3 pencil pouches for my 3 nieces this past week for back to school. I like the Alexander Henry apple print. Thank you!!
Everyone should check out http://www.modabakeshop.com
You can find lots of creativity there.
Love all the posts, I am going to finish my weeding and come back and look through all of them, can’t wait.
I have seen seen too many fantastic tutorials to remember- but I used Blocks N Swaps hand sewing kit tutorial for my kit that I use all the time, so I would say this one: http://blocksnswaps.blogspot.com/2010/02/my-portable-handwork-sewing-kit.html
This is a hard choice – there are so many good ones! I love Dana’s Summer Skirt with Deep Pockets – so comfortable and so many possibilities! http://www.dana-made-it.com/2008/07/tutorial-summer-skirt-with-deep-pockets.html
this isn’t very glamorous, but i use the sometimes crafter’s binding tutorial every time i have to sew on binding. it’s the only thing that gets me through the process without a major headache!
http://sometimescrafter.blogspot.com/2009/08/binding-tutorial-three-part-series.html
I love tutorials and now there is a whole list of them on this post to check out! How exciting! By far, my favourite thing I’ve made from a tutorial (so far) is this twirly skirt http://houseonhillroad.typepad.com/photos/twirly_skirt/ . I also like the tutorial for the Spring Ruffle Top. It’s a really cute top. http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=791
the bandana pants! http://www.sewmamasew.com/store/media/blog/SMSBandanaPants.pdf
i have made quite a few pairs and my daughter LOVES them.
http://pinkpetunias.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/06/bandana-pants-completed.html
I love this skirt, it makes your waist look super small! hehehe, it is the only thing I’ve ever sewn for myself and it was easy and really cute
http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/ida-maria-high-waisted-skirt–2/instructions/1
Jane writes really well. I have used this really simple and well written tutorial several times this year and changed it each time to suit my own needs – a sign that it is easy to use and adapt: http://projectsbyjane.blogspot.com/2009/03/fully-lined-front-zippered-pouch.html
I love the patchwork skirt tutorial. Easy but very, very, cute.
I love your zipper tutorial. I have been super scared to put a zipper in. I have made everything I can WITHOUT a zipper, trying to avoid doing it. UNTIL I found your tutorial! It makes it look so easy! I ran out and got fabric and a zipper to make my first skirt WITH a zipper. Thanks!
The best sewing tutorial, especially for beginners is this skirt you posted in Back-to-School section
http://whipstitchfabrics.com/blog/20-minute-skirt-tutorial/
I like it because there are so many pictures! I like to have the visuals- I can’t just read how to do it.
Now I have so many new tutorials to check out too!
I really like the printable hem guide from The Scientific Seamstress. http://scientificseamstress.blogspot.com/2010/03/folding-templates-free-download.html
I guess it’s not technically a tutorial, but it sure is handy.
I really enjoyed the lunch bag tutorial by the long thread:
http://thelongthread.com/?p=6217
I bring my lunch to work everyday and it’s nice to have a lovely original bag to bring it in!
This was a great binding tutorial! Savede me lots of time and grief when binding my own quilt.
http://www.redpepperquilts.com/2009/11/binding-tutorial.html
I just recently learned (am learning how to sew) and I loooove making my kids clothing. My favorite tutorial is the one I have made the most and passed on through the admiration of my daughters dresses. The best is it grows with her. She’s worn them all summer and I will put them with shirts and leggins for the fall. Easy peasy! http://thematerialgirlsquilts.blogspot.com/2010/06/fat-quarter-top.html
http://calistayoo.blogspot.com/2007/08/tutorial-for-framed-crochet-purse.html
this is an adorable ruffled purse with very professional tutorial
The most useful tutorial I found this year is on how to sew in-seam pockets. One thing that’s good to note is that if you’re sewing an A-line skirt without a lot of ease, patch pockets are better because they won’t pull open when you sit. But for full skirts or pants, this tutorial has been wonderful!
http://www.burdastyle.com/techniques/sew-in-seam-pockets
i LOVE this idea
http://tallgrassprairiestudio.blogspot.com/2010/02/you-knew-there-would-be-more-on-this.html
I just reallzed that the tutorial i liked is old. Here is a new one that is so simple.
http://elefantz.blogspot.com/2010/06/mini-tutorial-for-simple-gifts.html
Your pencil case tutorial was such a timely post. I have been searching for a tutorial on how to make a roll pillow case for a large round body pillow and this tutorial is exactly what I needed to see! SO, even if I am not using the tutorial for the exact purpose it was designed, but it will work perfectly for my purposes. Thanks!
I just discovered Alexander Henry fabrics a few months ago and bought myself a yard of his Vintage Tea Pots. To which, I made a ruffled apron!
When I saw this fabric, I knew a fun Autumn Apron would be perfect!
http://www.sewmamasew.com/store/ecom-prodshow/FDFDORCTINPK.html
My favorite tutorial has to be:
Noodlehead’s Lil Cutie Pouch http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2009/10/tutorial-lil-cutie-pouches.html
Well written, with lots of helpful pictures. Such a creative lady!
I’ve already bought the road fabric for these car play mats from Rebecca @ This Present Life (http://happybabydesigns.blogspot.com/2010/04/car-playmat.html) – I can’t wait to make several of these for Christmas gifts!
Disney’s ruffled skirt http://www.rufflesandstuff.com/2010/04/murpheys-layered-skirt.html is something that I have not done yet but as soon as I have the time and resouces will do.
You folks are always so generous! I’m really enjoying the pattern a day month. Many I’ve seen but many are new to me! Thanks!
I love this diaper bag tutorial
http://amingledyarn.wordpress.com/gallery/tutorial-hip-mama-diaper-bag/
I like the Beach Party Top & Dress from fiddlehead’s blog.
http://fiddlehead.blogspot.com/
Glad to see that you are carrying knits. Have you thought of moving into some wools or maybe challis?
This is a great tutorial for the spiderweb selvage blocks: http://tallgrassprairiestudio.blogspot.com/2010/04/spiderweb-tutorial-for-selvages.html.
I sewed my first zipper ever with Noodlehead’s cutie pouch tutorial: http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2009/10/tutorial-lil-cutie-pouches.html
It’s a basic pattern, but the tutorial is very easy to follow and it launched me into loving to add zippers to things!
I’ve seen a few that have helped me complete my first bias binding.
Adore the simple superhero cape tute from The Long Thread at http://thelongthread.com/?p=98. What a great go-to for birthday gifts!!!
I love sewing and the lunchbags have been so fun. Everyonein my family is getting one. I so enjoy your site
yay! Halloween fabric!
Heh, my favorite (which I haven’t yet tried out, and am cursing myself for) is this tutorial on making your own panties:
http://www.supernaturale.com/articles.html?id=70
I have to commend Bunny from http://lasewist.blogspot.com/. She is an internet sewing friend of mine, and she’s also featured on the SB Blog Tour. Her blog holds a wealth of information for any seamstress.
House on Hill Road’s Twirly skirt is awesome!!! I made my daughter one and have plans for many more!!! Thanks for the giveaway.
http://houseonhillroad.typepad.com/photos/twirly_skirt/
I love the Farmdale fabric. It would be so cute for a little girl’s dress.
I love that farmdale fabric.
The domesticated skirt tutorial: http://sewastraightline.blogspot.com/2010/03/domesticated-skirt.html
I have made a few of these because I can wear it to both of my jobs (just flip it around the otherway and go!).
I had so much fun learning to shirr in order to make a teeny version of this dress for my newborn daughter!
http://fromanigloo.blogspot.com/2010/05/playful-days-double-layer-top-or-dress.html
I like the market skirt tutorial (http://www.dana-made-it.com/2009/07/market-skirt-tutorial.html) I’ve made it a few times and while this skirt seemed like the sort of thing I should be able to just make up on mine, the reality is I like having a tutorial and having someone else already figure out the measurements!
I love seeing the list of tutorials everyone has posted-I’ve bookmarked so many of them now!
Strangely enough, I came across this one today and I am dying to try it. So simple, but so effective.
http://www.skiptomylou.org/2010/08/19/headband-refashion/
This one just caught my eye this week…it is bookmarked and waiting for me to give it a try! http://www.modabakeshop.com/2009/05/little-girls-patchwork-skirt.html
Thanks for asking this question! I’ve discovered that I’m much better at following tutorials than patterns, although I have some great patterns that I’m excited to make. I’m more of a “learn by doing” learner and tutorials are easier for me to understand and help my creative side come out.
Right now my favorite tutorial is one I found here on this blog
http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=8666. I just love the boat neck!
My second favorite is
http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=791, also a great fit.
And both tops are great for waitressing in!
i haven’t tried this yet- but once school starts, i think this will be my first ‘no kids at home to bug me’ project.
http://crafterhours.blogspot.com/2010/08/petal-shirt-tutorial.html
I love the tutorial for the gathered clutch by Noodlehead. I love her inspiration! More tutorials please!!!
I am smitten! Every single pattern and fabric you have listed is on my wish list!
I have enjoyed several sewing tutorials this year, but ANYTHING done by Liesl of Oliver + S is a breeze to sew. I have especially enjoyed this free goody…
http://www.oliverands.com/blog/2010/06/ruffled-halter-free-downloadable-pattern.html
I guess the patchwork skirt or the Oliver & S dress are my favorites.
I have to say that I am a tutorial junkie and couldn’t even count all of the fabulous tutorials I’ve used in the last 6 months! However, right now I’m loving the Belle princess dress tutorial from crafterhours here: http://crafterhours.blogspot.com/2010/08/belle-dress-tutorial.html
This will be perfect for our trip to Disney World next month!
Thanks again for another chance at some fantastic items
My favorite and most used tutorial this year has been the gathered clutch by Anna at Noodlehead: http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2009/08/gathered-clutch-pattern.html
That’s the link to purchase the pattern, but on her blog, she also has a tutorial (http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html) that shows how to make it and leaves out the extra details that are included in the purchased pattern. If you purchase the pattern, you get tips and ideas, as well as the right to sell anything you make from them.
They are super quick and fun stash busters! I’ve made several
I love so many tutorials….so much to learn.
My fav this year was for a tissue cozy. It’s
a great little gift & a nice way to use small
pieces of beautiful fabric.

I’d love to do this bag, it’s adorable and very useful!
http://www.ikatbag.com/2010/04/strawberry-bag.html
I am BRAND new to sewing, so this is the only thing I’ve made so far, and it turned out to be exactly what I wanted:
http://www.marthastewart.com/article/octopus-costume
This is what I plan on trying next:http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/03/spring-t-shirt-tutorial.html
Memory fabric matching game:
Love it! So awesome!!! Very Montessori!
http://kindershoponline.blogspot.com/2009/08/memory.html
I loved the tutorial for this baby blanket; http://www.aestheticnest.com/2010/08/sewing-heirloom-cut-chenille-baby.html I made one for my baby boy (due in December) and it turned out so wonderful!
the market skirt tutorial from dana-made-it.blogspot.com
perfect bday present for my 4 yo!
I love this tutorial, and wish I had varied enough fabric to make one for my son: http://homegrownhappy.blogspot.com/2009/10/babys-soft-book-of-colors.html
I don’t know about favorite–it’s too hard to choose!–but I really like this tutorial: http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=2125 for a fall pillow. I have all kinds of variations planned out in my head for different seasons/themes!
For me personally, the best and most helpful sewing tutorial of the year was Elizabeth Hartman’s entire Oh, Fransson! blog!
The best tutorial I found this year was on how to baste a quilt from Elizabeth Hartman. I found it when I was just learning to quilt. http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2009/03/quilt-along-part-13-making-the-quilt-sandwich.html
I just made the Oliver +S lazy day skirt… it turned out great and the tutorial was very easy to follow.
http://www.oliverands.com/blog/2008/08/lazy-days-skirt-free-pattern.html
Such a hard question. So many incredible tutorials out there. My favorite is for a pillowcase dress. http://alittleloveliness.blogspot.com/2009/05/make-pillowcase-dress.html
Love the halloween fabric. I also really like the artsy crafty bag
My first foray into smocking was with the Undaunted Top featured right here: http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=8666
I loved reading about Gertie’s draping project on her blog… Not a tutorial per se, but it made me realize that draping is not such an esoteric art…
http://www.blogforbettersewing.com/2010/07/draping-dress-part-six-show-off-your.html
There are so many tutorial out there that are awesome and makes it hard to say which is the best. But the one that I got the most use out of this year was http://jonag.typepad.com/stop_staring_and_start_se/2008/12/your-christmas-gift-from-mean-apron-in-an-hour.html
Made lots of cute aprons for gifts with this one!
my favorite tutorial would have to be elizabeth hartman’s (oh fransson’s) tut for her mod sampler. It covers sooo much about quilting, from materials to cutting, to piecing, machine quilting, and binding. I am a self taught sewer, but really it’s thanks to tutorials like this that I’ve been able to do this! there’s so many great ones out there…but this is really one of the best.
The most helpful tutorial I’ve used this year is a la mode fabric’s spiderweb block tutorial. I’m using it to make my Christmas tree skirt.
I love this from noodleheads! It comes together so quickly and makes a great gift! http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html
I really enjoyed The Slim Slack for Boys by This Mama Makes Stuff. It was a challenge for this novice sewer, but the pants turned out great and stylin’ for my 2-year-old!
http://thismamamakesstuff.com/tutorial-slim-slack-for-boys/
http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2009/12/raw-edge-circle-quilt-tutorial.html
Love Lady Cluck’s raw-edged Circle Quilt. I’m slowly gathering a square or two from all of my favorites as I finish them off to make one of these for myself.
I enjoyed making the Market skirt with the gathered pockets on Dana-Made-It http://www.dana-made-it.com/2009/07/market-skirt-tutorial.html.
One tutorial I still want to try is the patchwork basket on Pink Penguin. http://ayumills.blogspot.com/2008/05/tutorial-fabric-basket.html
The popover sundress for the American Girl Doll by Oliver & S turned out really cute.
I love the buttercup bag on http://www.made-by-rae.com/2009/02/free-buttercup-bag-sewing-pattern.html
I’ve made 2!
The puppet style oven mitt was a great pattern/tutorial. I made all of the chefs in my family oven mitts. We have small hands so they were perfectly sized. I don’t think it has a link, but it’s the PDF that comes up when you google “puppet style oven mitt”.
Loving the Alexander Henry fabric! My favorite tutorial so far this year is the “gathered clutch” tutorial on “Skip to My Lou”.
Tutorial may be stretching this–but I loved the directions you gave for turning something right side out. So wonderfully easy.
And as with many others there are so many quilt tutorials–the people from your quilt month this year were all amazing and I have them all bookmarked.
One of my favorite tops that I made for my daughter is ‘Gigi’ from Children’s Corner. I made it in a polka dot cotton fabric. It was adorable!
I am loving the series of tutorials on drafting a sloper over at ikat bag
http://www.ikatbag.com/
I’m hoping this will help me make a dress for my daughter that really fits.
I think the best tutorial was http://mudpuddlesanddaisies.blogspot.com/2010/03/diaper-clutch-tutorial.html
This is absolutely my most favorite tutorial ever: http://madewithlovebyhannah.com/WordPress/?p=136
It’s so darn cute!

Thank you for the give away!
SheilaC
I made the fat quarter bag from the tutorial on the site. Everyone compliments me on it!
I’ve seen lots of tutorials but have done only 1 so far (although I have made 3 of them). They are lovely fabric hangers by Val Laird (www.val-laird.blogspot.com).
I love the tutorial for Anna Maria Horner’s Socialite dress on your blog. It is incredibly helpful, and my dresses came out beautifully.
It’s more of a tutorial for technique than a full sewing tutorial, but Grosgrain’s video on sewing with elastic thread when one’s machine is less than agreeable with the idea finally got the technique working for me: http://grosgrainfabulous.blogspot.com/2010/08/shirring-with-your-brother.html
My favorite tutorial I’ve seen and used this year was Juicy Bits Felt Crown Tutorial. I made them for both of my daughters’ big days, and then some extra (“more princess-y and shiny mama!”) ones for ‘every-day’
http://juicy-bits.typepad.com/juicy_bits/2008/09/32-felt-birthday-crown-tutorial.html
(don’t know how to make this is link, please cut and paste!)
I have several that I really liked, but this Posh Pillowcase tutorial was my favorite. It’s really good to know how many chocolates it will take to get through the project.
http://yougogirl.typepad.com/you_go_girl/2010/03/lets-get-ready-to-rumble.html
I’m sorry…I accidentally linked to the first of 4 tutorials to complete a posh pillowcase. This is the link for the actual pillowcase:
http://yougogirl.typepad.com/you_go_girl/2010/03/posh-pillowcase.html
Definitely the skirt sew-along, featured here – you made it soooo easy!
I want to make these potholders:
http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2010/06/quilted-potholder-tutorial.html
and the strip-pieced pleated skirt:
http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/08/strip-pieced-pleated-skirt.html
Thanks for hosting this giveaway!
My little boy was born Dec 30, so I have been totally out of touch with the sewing world. I can’t wait to peruse the links above! Sorry I don’t have one of my own to share.
i have made many lovely gifts from this “dopp kit” tute: http://www.mountainmomreport.com/2009/09/lovely-loaf-cosmetic-case-tutorial.html

Hmmm…just about any tutorial on http://www.ikatbag.com. Seriously, that woman is a creative genius.
Ii just finished a popover dress from Leisel at Oliver + S and it was so easy, so quick, and so cute. The direcions are clear and it’s the best looking pillowcasxe-style dress I’ve ever made.
I also added Rae’s pleated pockets from her tutorial at http://www.madebyrae.com. It was the perfect added touch!

Lattice smocking by learning to fly is by far the most fascinating tutorial yet. I found this by link on Craftster.org on a gorgeous bridesmaid dress. This girl is plenty talented and constantly making and showing her creations on her website. learning to fly is her etsy shop and has beautiful jewelry.
I have two favourite tutorials that are related to one another. They are both from Mademoiselle Chaos. The first is for a pencil skirt and the second is for an a-line skirt made from the pencil skirt pattern.
Pencil: http://mademoisellechaos.blogspot.com/2010/06/make-wish-tutorial-i-ominous-pencil.html
A-line: http://mademoisellechaos.blogspot.com/2010/07/make-wish-tutorial-i-ominous-pencil.html

http://sew4home.com/projects/storage-solutions/660-back-to-school-the-perfect-slouchy-book-bag is an awesome tutorial for my tween’s school bag. That daughter picked some Farmdale prints for a skirt for back to school. I could use another yard so that I could make her a bias cut skirt!
I’ll be spending a good amount of time looking at all these tutorials. Thanks!!
I love these patterns!

http://www.u-createcrafts.com/2010/08/creative-guest-bird-pillow-cover-by.html
I love the ruffle jersey skirt on Cluck Cluck Sew. It gave me the confidence to try sewing jersey on my regular home sewing machine (not that I wouldn’t LOVE to win that serger!) and it turned out great!
And how cute is that apple fabric – must get some!
I really want to make this someday:

I love House On Hill Roads tutorials (twirly skirts, picnic blanket). She has such a clear, simple way about her ideas.
I guess I need to write my own tutorial because I used my favorite tutorials (2 of them) to make a messenger bag just like I had in mind. I liked parts of one bag…and parts of the other…put them together and I have the perfect bag that has received rave reviews! I’ve made 5 in the last two months and have more people saying they want one!
Here they are…

I have made bunches of gathered clutches from the Noodlehead tute (http://noodleheads.blogspot.com/2010/04/gathered-clutch-tutorial.html)
Love the “tie” shirts for little boys! There aren’t many projects and inspirations for little boys, but this one was cute and thrifty. Love the way the project uses fabric from a discarded or thrift-store shirt rather than spending money on new fabric. Thanks so much for the idea and excellent pictures of each of the steps from start to finish!!
Great tie shirts for little guys. I’ll make several of these for my grandsons. Thank you!!
http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=10163
I’d have to say http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=8154 because it looks to be the only thing that I could make lol

No Serger???
One of the best tutorials I’ve found is here on Sew,Mama,Sew!
It is from Meg McElwee of Sew Liberated – dated June 21,2010
“Tips for Working with Knits and Mock Cover Stitch Tutorial”
Once you realize how easy it is to get a durable and professional finish with your sewing machine, a huge world opens up with knits! You don’t have to have a serger/coverstitch. The best part is that not only does Meg walk you through your options, she gives you SPECIFICS! Which feet to try, stitch lengths to start with, tension adjustments, thread and needles, etc. There are so many ways to get to there! She helps you discover the best option for YOUR specific machine.
Grab some scraps and give it a go! You’ll be glad you did.

I love to sew dresses for me! And Grosgrain is one of my favourite blogs as Kathleen started doing a ‘Frock by Friday’ where she finds a free (mostly) dress pattern that anyone can download, she then steps you through printing and cutting your pattern and then sewing the dress to make a finished product, she will even answer any questions you have! It’s really great. To date I think she has done five this year, my favourite is the Selfish Seamstress’ Coffee Date Dress, you can find all the details/tutorial here http://grosgrainfabulous.blogspot.com/2010/04/frock-by-friday-friday.html
The finished pics are gorgeous!

I don’t know if I’d say this is my favorite tutorial, but it’s one that I definitely plan on trying soon. It’s a crayon pouch: http://obsessivelystitching.blogspot.com/2010/08/cutie-crayon-pouch-recycled.html.

The best sewing tutorial I’ve seen this year would have to be the Reversible Bag by Very Purple Person. It’s a fantastic free pattern and tutorial and making some of them has encouraged me to make more bags after a few rather unsuccessful prior attempts at other bags.
