Introduction ~ Lorraine/LiEr
From Beth: We’re long-time fans of LiEr and her ikat bag blog. Who wouldn’t be with delightful projects like this Princess Pavillion Tent, her amazing cakes or this fun Donut Shop On-The-Go?! We’re always excited for LiEr’s next project, and today her next project is here at Sew,Mama,Sew! LiEr shares her Back-to-School Pencil Case tutorial… Coming up next!
From Lorraine: LiEr, who also goes by her first name Lorraine, is a stay-at-home mother of three small daughters aged 2, 3 and 5. In her former life she was a high-school physics teacher, crisis counselor (not that it is helping her much with parenting now) and educational trainer. Because she was fortunate enough to be the granddaughter of a professional tailor and daughter and niece of seamstresses, she started to sew at a very early age. Her children are her motivation and inspiration to sew because they push her limits and don’t know the meaning of the word “impossible.” Her current projects are toys, clothes and costumes for her daughters but she dreams of someday sewing a wool winter coat for herself. She has a ridiculously huge stash of fabric, most of which are solids, because she loves their versatility and potential. When she needs a break from sewing, she makes cardboard toys for her daughters and imagines she is again 8 years old.
LiEr shares some of her sewing and cardboard projects on her blog www.ikatbag.com where she sells pdf patterns of her toys – an oviparous chicken, a lactating sow and some very injured Owie Dolls. Also on her blog, she is now working on a series on custom drafting slopers for children, called Sewing From Scratch.
