(Chronicle Books, $24.95, ISBN: 9780811872287)
From the Publisher:
There’s something so satisfying about stenciling: It’s easy, affordable, and it yields such impressive results. Especially when all the design work is done for you by the talented textile artist Lotta Jansdotter. Lotta’s hand-drawn stencil motifs are cut out of durable plastic so they can be used again and again on all sorts of surfaces, from walls to fabric to furniture. Simply wipe the stencils clean with soap and water and stow in the handy storage pocket provided. Project instructions and photographs demonstrate how to repeat a design on a structured grid to achieve the look of wallpaper (for a whole lot less money), or apply designs randomly for a unique, playful effect. At just $24.95, this package is a DIY decorator’s delight—a real bargain, and beautiful to boot!

By Kathy Doughty and Sarah Fielke
(STC Craft, $27.50, ISBN: 978-1-584-79880-4)
From the Publisher:
By nature, quilters are fascinated by fabric, color, and pattern. And Sarah Fielke and Kathy Doughty have been feeding that fascination ever since the publication of their first book, Material Obsession (STC Craft, 2009). In Material Obsession 2, the popular team presents more than 20 new quilts in their trademark style, combining fresh, modern fabrics with traditional designs. The quilts were created in pairs: that is, the two quilters started with the same concept, then worked independently, producing completely different, equally beautiful results. Patterns range from easy to advanced, with a comprehensive technique section so quilters of all levels can join the fun.
