Girl’s World Review + Giveaway
We’re continuing our full week of celebration for all things BOOK! Our Grand Opening offer for the Sew,Mama,Sew! Book Shop is good through July 17.
Beki from Artsy-Crafty Babe uses lots of Jennifer Paganelli’s beautiful fabrics in her gorgeous artsy-crafty babe bags. We asked her to take a look at Jennifer’s new Girl’s World: Twenty-One Sewing Projects to Make for Little Girls, and Beki’s review made us love the book even more! Be sure to visit Beki at Artsy-Crafty Babe and check out the one of a kind bags and printable PDF sewing patterns in her shop. Enjoy Beki’s review and comment for your chance to WIN a copy of Girl’s World: Twenty-One Sewing Projects to Make for Little Girls. We’ll choose one winner from the comments on today’s reviews. Who would you sew for from Jennifer’s new book?!

As a huge fan of Jennifer Paganelli’s fabrics. I knew that Girl’s World would be a treat, and boy, is it ever. It is absolutely gorgeous! A pure feast for the eyes. I think I may have gasped a little when I opened it for the first time. Even if you don’t sew, this book is a pleasure to look at with all the colorful patterns and cute projects.

Like most sewing books, there is a section at the front with basic sewing instructions and techniques, which seems very thorough. I like how the materials and instructions are presented for each project with a “from the sewing basket” section for those sewing essentials you should have on hand. The book is divided into three main sections: Dress Up, Accessories, and Home.

Having two girls of my own, I really wanted try out a dress for my youngest, who is very much into dresses these days. We decided on Mary’s Fancy Sash Dress. As tempted as I was to pull out my own Sis Boom fabrics, I decided to go a different route, with a little bit of Sis Boom thrown in on the sash.

I have a confession-– I’m terrible at following directions! Before making this dress I read through the instructions and materials several times, but I managed to mess up by mixing up the length and width of the skirt panels and using the wrong bias tape on the neck and arm openings.

Despite those snafu’s, I think the dress turned out great. Definitely a good design!

This dress is cute, non-fussy, and simple to make. A perfect combination, in my opinion. I even learned a thing or two while making this dress.

As you can see, the recipient loved it. The twirl factor is a bonus!

For my big girl, who decided that she wanted a dress after seeing her little sister’s, I made the Fiona Fabric Flower. Flowers on headbands are her thing right now.

I’ve made many fabric flowers, and this one was just a bit different-– the addition of tulle gave it a little something extra. It came together easily, so easy that my big girl could have done it herself. As soon as we find the perfect headband, this flower is going straight on it.

Even though this book is entitled Girl’s World, I didn’t want to leave my boy out-– with two sisters in the house he gets left out plenty enough! When I get the chance (I ran out of time), I’m going to make him a George the Puppy. He loves his stuffed animals and since we have a real live pup of the George the Puppy variety, I’m sure he’ll love it. Having looked at the pattern pieces and read the instructions, making George should be a breeze.
Overall, I loved this book. The instructions are thorough and the inspiration is endless. I think it would be a great addition to any craft library, especially if you enjoy sewing all things girly.

We’re celebrating the Grand Opening of the Sew,Mama,Sew! Book Shop this week! We have lots of opportunities to win new books, with some fun project downloads too. Order a book by 11:59 PM PDT on July 17 and we’ll send you a coupon for 15% off your next fabric and pattern order.
