Deploy That Fabric ~ Free Project + Giveaway
Jen Eskridge of ReannaLily Designs has a new book out, Deploy That Fabric: 23 Sewing Projects Use Military Uniforms in Everyday Life, and we’re one of the blog tour stops today!

Jen’s husband was with the US Air Force for 10 years and is currently on Active Duty in the Air National Guard; Jen’s book shows you how to upcycle decommissioned military uniforms to celebrate service members and to make special projects for your family. The book includes 23 projects ranging from baby items and fashion accessories to holiday decor, totes, quilts and more. Jen shows you how to incorporate both uniforms or camouflage fabrics with contemporary fabrics, and all of the projects can also be made exclusively with your favorite prints. You can mix and match to make something special with Jen’s instructions.

Oh do I ever need this book! I have a huge box of my husbands old uniforms and need more ideas to use them up.
I mostly have Coast Guard Blues but the fabric is very durable. Looks like a fun book to own.

What a great book. I would love to win. I have TON of my Dad’s old camo that just sits in a closet collecting dust. This would be such a better way to have it as a memory item and keepsake. I had never thought to reuse the camo in a quilt!

I love this idea! What a great way to honor our servicemen and women. Our son is a Marine and I told him to please keep his old cammies and send them home. What a great idea for a book! Before I got into sewing I purchased a uniform purse for my sister in law whose husband is in the army. Now that I can crank things out with my sewing machine, I would love to make her something else…this book would be a great resource for gift ideas for her and the kids.

I have to have this book win or buy. I have a cousin who has done deployment so many times since 9-11 I can’t remember the number 6 or 7 times for sure. He goes without complaint or fear, it is his job. He has been in harms way so many times but has managed to come home to us whole each and every time. It’s a lovely project, we recently covered the school books and the notebooks of our 6 year old daughter with fabric in a similar way. The result was fantastic as you can see here in our blog, but we never thought to apply this kind of covers to our passports. It’s realy great idea since we’re going to travel on Christmas.

My Dad served more than 20 years on the Air Force and my son is currently serving in the Marine Corps. (being deployed to Afghanistan next year) Having a few uniforms, I could use this book. It’s nice that there is a section that shows you how to break down the uniforms.

So cool. I am looking for things to keep myself busy. My family is adopting a little girl from Honduras and we are looking at taking our first trip to get her hopefully late winter. Being military-married-to-military, this book would definitely come in handy at my house! I have so many uniforms (even some from when I was in basic training) that need to be recycled as we downside for upcoming moves. I love the author’s reuse * recycle * remember slogan. Absolutely love it!
Another use for old uniforms can be found at http://www.combatpaper.org. They turn old uniforms into paper used in therapeutic art projects for vets.

I was in the Navy and that’s where I met my other half – 51 years of service between us…..and lots of uniforms. I’ve made some bags and passport covers – fire retardant too!
