Waterproof Bags
Call me crazy, but I think the best time to send my kids to swim lessons is the dead of winter. Poor girls may have chattering teeth on the way back to the car, but the extra attention they get in January compared to July is worth it. New swimsuits for Christmas may not be a tradition in most families, but they are around here. For the past couple of years I’ve been using wet bags that were originally used for cloth diapers to carry swimsuits home. This year, however, they’ll have awesome new swim bags made with Happy Mochi Yum Yum vinyl-coated cotton!

Fabric
Happy Mochi Yum Yum vinyl-coated cotton. (We don’t carry this in the shop, but we do carry the quilt-weight cotton.) For the lining I used PUL, which is a water-proof fabric often used in cloth diapers.

Sparkle Vinyl Bag
SMS employee, Irene, used amazing sparkle vinyl to create this great Perfect Zip bag. We love the idea of using a bag like this to present a gift card.
I hope you’ll be inspired to use the Perfect Zip PDF pattern to make some fabulous waterproof bags.

Not as much fun as swimming lesson bags, but I’d love some waterproof bags for our emergency supplies. These would be great in our “Go Bags”.
I will for sure! Great idea!

nice versions – I had never though of using waterproof materials!
I would love to make some waterproof bags, but I am a little intimidated by the materials since I have only been sewing for a few months. Do the vinyl-coated cotton and PUL require any special handling techniques? I love that swim bag – such a fun print!
Very cute!
And here I was thinking the PUL fabric jumped into my cart because my niece said I should make her some pocket diapers!
cool idea!
Thanks for the patterns. What a great idea.
great gift ideas!
I love winter swim lessons too! I’m paying for group lessons, but my son often gets a private lesson if no one else comes. I also am using repurposed cloth diaper wet bags, but I need to upgrade!
I’m a bag lady at heart! There aren’t enough totes and pouches in the world to satisfy my craving for Just. One. More. Thanks for sharing!
LOVE LOVE LOVE! I’ve never put in a zipper and have been waiting for the perfect first project. This may be it! We too are winter swimmers.
this would be great for carrying home wet cloth diapers.
SOOOOOOO Cute!!!!!!
Interesting idea. I hadn’t considered a swim bag before. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve made a bunch of zippered wet bags for cloth diapering (for myself, and for friends). So quick, easy, and a great gift.
I did not know there was such an animal as waterproof fabric. With 2 aging retrievers at my home, I’m thinking I’d like to combine the dogged/waterproof bag ideas and come up with an easy way to rest my babies bones inside without worrying about a mess. Thanks SMS!

There must be so many uses for this waterproof material, must go and look at your range!
The fabrics are really cool!
Need to make one ASAP
Don’t forget to use tissue paper on top of the vinyl so your presser foot doesn’t stick!
I can think of lots of uses for these!
