Dyeing to Stitch Video Giveaway
Candy Glendening from Candied Fabrics joined us on the blog several times this year. She did an Organic Prepared for Dyeing (PFD) Fabric Test for us on our 100% Organic Cotton Solids from Robert Kaufman, and she shared a comprehensive Beginning Fabric Dyeing tutorial too. If you’re inspired by Candy’s beautiful fabric art or if you want to learn more about fabric dyeing, you’re in luck!
Candy has a new video out with Interweave. Dyeing to Stitch: A Comprehensive Guide to Creating Colorful Fabric Art is 70 minutes long (broken into chapters), and Candy’s wonderful personality and talent shine through the whole video. Candy teaches you about everything from color theory and the whole dyeing process to how she creates her “free-motion machine sketched” motifs. She shares tips, tricks and secret recipes for her Jewel Tone fabric palette.
There’s more information about the DVD on Candy’s site, and it’s also a available for purchase from Candy or Interweave (where you can purchase the video as either a DVD or a download).
Here’s a 5-minute preview to give you an idea of what you can find in the video:

I love to use hand dyed fabrics in my quilts. I have never dyed any myself, I always buy them at quilt shows. I covet every inch of them. I would love to learn to dye my own!
I would love to win, then maybe I could actually reproduce a color. Now its hit or miss, take what you get when I dye. But I love the process and excitement of waiting to see what you will end up with, its like Christmas!

I’ve gotten together and dyed fabric with friends — great fun! Thanks for the chance!
I enjoy all the unknowns when you dye. The colors and patterns that come out in the dyeing process are far better than I could wish for. I made a scarf out of tie-dyed sheeting that was very cool.
I LOVE dyeing, but feel my skills are pretty limited to solid colors. I’d like to learn about more experimental techniques, natural dyes, etc… Looks like such a cool book!
How fun! I bet there would be so much to inspire in this video.
I have dyed fabric in a class with my quilt guild. It was a wonderful experience and am looking forward to using the fabric in a project in the near future. After the holidays I plan on purchasing supplies for more fabric dying. I would love to win the DVD to help me in the process.

I have only dyed my own fabric once, when I did a batik project in junior high school. I do want to start dyeing my own fabrics though and would love to have this DVD as a reference. I love Candy’s work!

My daughter and I have dyed my handspun yarn with wilton icing dye — she chooses the color, we dye it together, then I knit her socks. It’s great fun, and (being a former homeschooling mom) I appreciate the science / math involved.
I have no experience with dyeing fabric, but I would love to play with it. I have some hand dyed wool I’ve purchased and love it for special projects.

In the past, I’ve worked a little with Ritz dyes for clothing. More recently I’ve used bits of hand dyed fabrics in making a quilt (iris flowers). Candy’s DVD also has information on colors and fabric which would help me immensely because I am color challenged when it comes to selecting fabrics for quilts. It would be wonderful if could hand dye small pieces of fabric for special quilting projects. Thanks for the giveaway chance.
I used my Science lab at school during the holidays to dye fabric with friends. It was such fun and so productive. We weren’t too confident about what we were doing and ended up with strong colours (our dilution factor was wrong). We were still very happy with the outcome.
I’ve done tie-dyeing (am I dating myself, here?) but I’d love to learn more about dyeing fabrics like she does! On her blog, she shows some wonderful colors and textures!

I’ve currently got a box of clothing and scarf blanks on my bathroom counter that have been waiting for 5 months to be dyed! I would love to combine my two hobbies, though. Sometimes people ask if I made the clothes I’ve dyed. Maybe it is time to be able to say yes.

I’ve been intrigued with dying forever. I’ve only tie-dyied in the past and once I used black walnut hulls to dye a platypus costume for my daughter. I’ve never worked with fabric before. I sew often and would love to know more about dying so I can make my own collection of colors for my projects. I love creating from scratch!
