Tanya is sharing a free project from Sew What You Love; you can download your free Travel Checkers PDF Project download here today!

From Tanya: First just want to say thanks so much to Kristin for letting me talk about my book, Sew What You Love, today on Sew,Mama,Sew! The description is below but what I really want to say about the book is that I tried really hard to yes, make attractive, easily achievable projects, but also, it was really important to me that the book not have a lot of “filler” projects. Now, I guess what counts as “filler” is subjective but I really wanted the projects to be ones people would use on an everyday basis as opposed to once in a while or things that were purely decorative. Purely decorative things are wonderful but I have an obsession with usefulness. If I make it, I want to use it, not just look at it. Anyway thanks for reading this– Here’s the description, and Happy 2012 sewing and creating to everyone!:

- Sew What You Love includes 30 projects plus a few extra super fast and easy little projects. It features projects for Little Ones including toys, skirts, tops and bedding. Projects like the Soft Fabric Shade, Apple Pie Ottoman, and Design as You Go Quilt from the Home section are both stylish and useful. The Personal Style section provides patterns and instructions for easy to make, versatile and stylish dresses, skirts, tops and more. And the Bags section includes a variety of stylish options for two totes, a hobo, a clutch, and a structured little bag with old fashioned appeal. Three large pattern sheets are tucked into an envelope at the back of the book. The book includes simple techniques for sewing with knits, using elastic thread, and bag construction.
We’ll select two lucky winners for Tanya’s giveaway today! One wins a free bag pattern download (your choice from several of Tanya’s pretty patterns) and another winner will receive a copy of Sew What You Love AND a six fat quarter pack from Tanya’s fabric collection, Sugar Hill. Your comment on today’s post enters you to win. Tell us about your love for Tanya’s style, your experiences with her patterns, what’s on your list to sew from Tanya’s book, if you’ve sewn something beautiful with Sugar Hill… Just “talk” about all things Grand Revival and you’re entered to win a pattern, book and/or fabric!

What a great giveaway!! Those dresses are beautiful!! And, I’ve been thinking about possibly sewing up something like those fabric stools/poofs/ottomans…Thanks for the opportunity!
These are the best patterns that I have seen. New, fresh. It’s hard to find something new and different anymore. The fabrics are great too. I really want to win! Thanks
What a great gift idea this is! Time to start sewing for next Christmas! lol.
Wow, looks like such a great book! It will be put on my amazon wishlist
! I would definitely try to sew a bag, or one of those cute dresses! Thanks for the chance!
I like to make bags, so I’d make a number of them from her patterns. Thanks for the chance!
Those checkers are adorable- what a fun pattern!
Is love this book! Those dresses are pretty enough to get me to try sewing clothes!
This is the first I’ve heard of this book, but I’m definitely in love. I tend to only buy pattern books if I for sure want to make at least enough projects to make the price of the whole book “worth it,” financially. Looking at that collage of photos above, I pretty much want to make ALL of them. I love the bags in these photos, and the short-sleeved dress, the little girl’s top, WOW. This book is definitely a must have for me now!!
Thanks for the giveaway!
Jess
I have yet to sew with a Tanya Pattern but they all look fabulous especially the bags and dresses for girls!
The fabrics look bright and airy which is a welcome change to the dark of winter. It’s all beautiful!
Those fabrics are perfect for the patterns. Whata great combo. Tanya is one talented lady!
oh my goodness I LOVE that red dress in the top right hand corner! Is that pattern in the book? If it is then this book just got added to my birthday list!
very cool. i love her designs.
I love the modern simplicity of the Sugar Hill collection — all of the fabric prints remind me of the fresh warm scent of a load of laundry fresh out of the dryer! I also admire Tanya’s focus on usefulness – something I take into consideration with everything I make.
At first I thought: “Another pattern book? Really?”, but reading Tanya’s description I can see she gets it. The “it” being that sewing is an artform and that practicality is essential for most sewers. Everyone wants a comfortable and pretty home – how wonderful to have the skill and inspiration to do it ourselves.
This book sounds great and one I will happily add to the growing to-do list. Thank you for showing it off
Marilize
Ooooooh! the fabrics in Sugar Hill are divine! I need to get my hands on this quick! Thanks!
i really appreciate how her projects have clean, simple lines and allow the fun fabric to shine. so many times, i see these fussy bags with fussy fabrics (and possibly up to six fabrics in one) and my eyes get dizzy… these are so lovely!

Oh wow, the title itself is such a pleasure! I would be hard pressed to decide which project to sew first, but if my daughter had any say in the matter, she would surely get me to make her the girl’s dress first!
I’m just starting with sewing and I really liked many of the patterns presented on the book! The metro bag and the ottoman box are my favourites!
I am loving the checkerboard! I have a secret sister swap and I think this would be perfect and so unexpected! Up next are the floor cushions. I am finished binding a quilt for my girl’s big girl room makeover and the cushions would be perfect for her.
I haven’t used Tanya’s patterns before, but after seeing this post, I think I’ll have to try some out. The clutch is really cute and I am interested in the ottomans. Looks like fun. Thanks for the chance to win!
I like Tanya’s style because it looks simple, yet adorable. It will be something that I will make for my little girl, anything from the book that she can use or wear.
Thank you for the chance.
all of tanya’s fabrics are gorgeous! wouldn’t mind having her new book to look through, and add a sweet fat quarter pack to my stash!
I am right now in the process of sewing Tanya’s Metro Bag, and I’m loving it! Instructions are so clear and easy to follow- I’ll finish it tonight after the kids are in bed. This book looks wonderful!

I love all Tanya’s fabric collections. So pretty and feminine with a modern feel. The book looks like it has some fun projects to try.
I don’t have any of Tanya’s Sugar Hill. I do, however, have a collection of Ava Rose and Darla that I haven’t used yet. Actually, if I won the book I’d like to gift it to a brand new enthusiastic sewer. My friend’s daughter just got a machine for Christmas and she’s very excited to learn.
I am intrigued by the Go To top/dress. It looks so cute and comfortable! Also, thank you for including the table of contents in the travel checkers file.
Those Sugar Hill fabrics are too sweet! I could have a lot of fun making baby quilts with them… but that large slouchy tote from her book looks amazing, too!

I’d love to win a copy of ‘sew what you love’! Tanya’s book looks so fantastic, I’d probably first make one of the women’s dresses that are featured — love that one in the top right corner. Although a fabric lamp shade would be pretty cool too!
Love the dresses in the photo mosaic, so cute!
I have to say that the little clutch purse in the photo collage above has really caught my eye. I love that both the print of the fabric and the “texture” of the purse give it a great style. That would be first on my sewing list from Tanya’s book!
I’ve actually never sewn any of her patterns or with Sugar Hill, but they look lovely to get a hold of and get going

If I win, I’d be making some of those wonderful floor pillows/foot stools. I’ve a daughter in a new apartment, and those would be perfect!
I haven’t done anything from Tanya yet but I am looking forward to checking out the book. The dresses are lovely, and I am really excited to start sewing clothes for myself (my daughter should’nt have all the fun!) Thank you for a chance to win.
How lovely everything looks. This would be a great book to own.
I love her easy, relaxed style. Her Practical Bag pattern has been a all time favourite of mine!
I dearly love the poufs! I’m too old and creaky to be getting up and down off the floor, but luckily my kids are still young and fresh. I’d make poufs for them.
What beautiful fabrics she has. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them before.
What an awesome giveaway!!! Would love to make some bags as gifts. Would love this book’
X
The book looks great with all of those project, they look like a lot of fun.
Oh, those dresses….I always think I love dresses, but they never fit right. If I made my own…..
Tanya is new to me–but my oldest granddaughter, a budding seamstress, would love it!
I’d love to win because her stuff looks so great and modern fresh and clean.
Such lovely projects!
Topping my “sew” list are the circular “poufs”, the little girls tunic and the over the shoulder bag!
Thanks so much!
Jenny
I love the bag on the cover! So cute!
Tanya’s fabric is always strikingly beautiful. I have the most beautiful quilt I made out of Dolce!
I would love to make the footstool/poof for myself and the top for my daughter. What fun projects!
I just stumbled on this blog and boy, am I glad I did! I can’t wait to learn more and see more!
I really appreciate her focus on usefulness. That is one criterion that helps me ‘weed through’ the many tempting projects out there.
I LOVE making pretty and Useful stuff.
I have the desire to show off whatever I have made, and that means leaving the house with most of it….
Each of Tanya’s bags are adoreable and I can SO see myself making all of them then trecking around showing ‘em off!
Useful! Hurrah! The dress patterns from the book look darling.
That clutch looks fantastic! I always want to make things that are useful/practical too (maybe that’s why I have all boys)!
Wow! What a useful book! I think the checkerboard would be great with flannel on top so the pieces don’t move in the car. Thanks for the opportunity!
This is the first time that I have come across Tanya and her book, but it looks fabulous! I downloaded the checker pattern and can’t wait to get started on it. I am still pretty new to sewing, but like Tanya, I have come to love projects that have a use all the time. Thanks for this great post!
I’m loving the ottoman & bags- the colors are all so bright- great photos too

What a great giveaway! I love making bags and gifts for friends.
I’m a big fan of Tanya’s style and made a quilt for my daughter out of her Delilah fabric.

I loves making bags. Loves to make one follow her patterns on the book!
I love the fabric choices and the clean yet functional designs!
I’d like to try the “Design as You Go” quilt. I’m just starting out and it sounds like a great project. I like Tanya’s focus on “Usefulness”.
The checkers project looks really original and I think would make a perfect travel game. Love the sweet yet crisp colors of the Sugar Hill collection! The batwing sheer top is calling my name! Have been looking exactly for a pattern for such a top and will now have to get my hands on the new book!
I would love to be able to sew more for my children and the images from this book are totally inspiring. I would love to make clothes for me as well, that fitted and were comfortable. This book looks like a real inspiration and if all the patterns are written as well as the checkers one then the book would become dogeared and tired very quickly in my sewing room.
ohmygosh! i’m looking for a dress pattern and i think tanya may have the dress for me! thanks for the chance!
I’ve made the Ava bag before, and it was great, I made it for my Mum and she loved it. Would love to get my hands on a copy of this pretty book!

I am new to all things Tanya, even Sugar Hill! But I have to say I need to have all those things in that picture mosaic in my life. Those mosaics would look amazing in my daughter’s room. She is 16 and I know she needs a stack of them for when her friends come over. And that shirt…Oh my…I need that!!! Oh and bag and the pinkish colored dress….I could go on forever. I sure hope I win this book. If not….I am going to be forced to order it. Thanks for the chance. Great photos.

Tanya’s style of simplicity and fun attracted me instantly. I am relatively new at sewing/quilting, and can’t wait to try her patterns…I also must find the fabric used on the bag pictured on her book cover!! LOVE!!
The first pattern I ever sewed was Tanya’s fleamarket bag. I pulled it off without a hitch, and then another, and another! She writes very clear instructions, easy for a beginner. And I love the vintage feel of her fabric collections.

I love Tanya’s eye for for modern vintage. It’s so refreshing to see clothes for tweens and teens that are feminine without being too cutesy or frilly…but not too adult.
