Quilting Modern Blog Blast ~ Weekend Celebration!
Free Pattern + Fabric Friday is still up through the weekend! Play our little game of “Which Fabrics Would You Choose?” with the awesome, reversible Split Personality Reversible Bag, and win the pattern plus the fabric to make the bag!

We’re excited to participate in the big weekend book celebration for the new Quilting Modern: Techniques and Projects for Improvisational Quilts by Jacquie Gering and Katie Pedersen.

Jacquie and Katie have led the charge with a here-to-last trend toward fresh, modern quilting designs! You know Jacquie from Tallgrass Prairie Studio, the Modern Quilt Guild board and you might remember her gorgeous project here on the blog for our Christmas in July series or her fun interview. Katie from Sew Katie Did has also joined us on the blog and wows us all the time with her designs; she is talented teacher of improvisational quilting, value and general quilting in her hometown (Seattle for any of you local sewists!).

Quilting Modern explores seven core improvisational techniques, with a collection of projects for each technique to help you learn, practice and create. Make quilts, wall hangings, pillowcases and table accessories, and stretch your skills with step-by-step guidance from Jacquie and Katie.

There’s just the right, hard-to-find mix here in Quilting Modern: Techniques and Projects for Improvisational Quilts– Enough support, tips, technique and design to give you confidence and skills, plus improvisational tools to give you freedom in your quilting approach.
We’re so happy for Jacquie and Katie, and we’re excited to learn from Quilting Modern too. It’s packed full of inspiration, must-do projects and the modern quilting we love.

Stop by the other sites involved in this weekend’s Quilting Modern celebration to learn more. You can see lots of amazing projects inspired by the book and learn a little more about the designs. Many of the stops have a chance for you to win a copy of the book too, so settle in and have fun!

Thanks for all the peeks into the book! I feel like I already have a copy mentally dog-eared.
Now to get my hands on a real one…!
The party wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Sew Mama Sew. You have done so much to promote and teach sewing and quilting and have expanded the community by welcoming new folks in such a supportive way. I always find inspiration here! Thank you for being a part of our book and our weekend.
Thanks for hosting Sew Mama Sew!
the quilts just jump off the page! love!
I love looking at all the quilts in this book. I only hope to make something as awesome some day. They are all so inspirational for someone like me who leans more toward the traditional type of things. I really love some of the modern quilting styles now and some I would love to make.
this book looks Fabulous I love all the quilting on these quilts as well..can’t wait to get a copy of this book
So inspiring, thanks for sharing!
I’ve really liked seeing the quilts from this book, it makes it all the more exciting. I like the idea of a book that you can work with to “free the abstract quilt artist” inside of you.
I’m enjoying the party ! Everyone I have visited so far
has shown something different …..or their review had
an individual slant. Love the Tipsy City quilt. Looks like
a great book ! Thanks Sew Mama Sew !
Katie and Jacquie are such talented quilters. I read both of their blogs and find them pretty inspiring. I’ll definitely buy their books.
Thanks for sharing this book review. The quilts shown are fantastic!
Thanks for a wonderful preview of this amazing book.
Thanks for a peek inside the book – love the crazy placemats!!
I love the look of the TV quilt. This book looks amazing, thanks for the sneak peek!
Thanks for the peek inside the book!
Looks like a great book! I hadn’t seen the place mat project before. They’re great.
Love those placemats!!
I can’t wait to get into this book. Thanks for participating in the celebration weekend.
I love this book. It would be a great addition to my quilt library.
I am a huge fan of Jacquie and Katie’s. Both are so talented and inspiring. The eye candy factor of this book is right off the charts… and then to find out that I could actually learn those techniques… I’m definitely wanting a copy of my own. lol
those placemats would be lovely gifts!
I love the quilts you posted.
This is the most wonderful book. It inspires without being intimidating, which many quilt books don’t manage. A non-quilting friend and I happened upon Katie’s quilts at Island Quilter up on Vashon and both of us were astounded by the beauty and craftsmanship. They were hung like art in a gallery, which was absolutely appropriate.
This party is making me drool! Love all of the inspiration!
Thanks for a look at this great book. I am new to quilting….love the look of all these.
Love the book! Can’t wait to improv some blocks myself!
The Tipsy City Quilt may be my favorite of all the quilts – perhaps because I lived in Chicago for several years. Thanks for sharing the image, and for participating in our bloggy celebration. You’re the best!
I’ve loved the intro to this book from all you bloggers this weekend. Inspirational.
Thanks for the sneek peek. Excited to learn about modern quilting.
That looks like a must have book!
Thanks for letting us peek inside this book, it looks amazing!
What a cute little quilt. I’ve been watinng to get one made for my Granddaughter and a matching quilt for her doll too. Classes sounds great Chris. You’ll probably do really well with those. Heck I might even consider driving in for those but not during the winter more than likely. Right now though I don’t even have a car to drive until we can figure out how to get hubby’s fixed IF it can be fixed.
