Family Crafting Month ~ Made to Play! Project + Giveaway
It’s time for more Family Crafting Month fun! Don’t miss our previous posts (many with giveaways) including: Snowman Week Projects from Craft-a-Day: 365 Simple Handmade Projects, Winter Story Stones from Show Me a Story, Coloring Pages from the Pattern and Design Coloring Book, Snowflake Week Projects from Craft-a-Day: 365 Simple Handmade Projects and Felted Falling Stars from Hand in Hand: Crafting with Kids.
Artist and author Joel Henriques is here today with an excerpt from Made to Play!: Handmade Toys and Crafts for Growing Imaginations. Made to Play! includes 35 modern, fun ideas (utilizing techniques like sewing, easy woodworking, paper craft and more). Projects include everything from Portable Zoo Animals and a Bottle-Cap Tambourine to a Modern Doll House with Furniture and a Shadow Puppet Theater.
Joel’s book, like his wonderful Made by Joel blog, is full of unique and accessible ideas inspired by the way children really love to play. The projects support a variety of imaginative adventures. By the way, Joel’s blog was just named one of Babble’s Top 50 Dad Blogs of 2012!
From the publisher:
- The toys presented here are made out of wonderfully tactile materials- repurposed fabrics, wood, and paper- and invite opportunities for creative and imaginative play. Every project is easy to complete, made with accessible materials, and requires little time to make. The projects are simple enough that endless variation can come from the making of each, leaving enough room for you to make the item to suit your own personal interests.
We love this book; if you have young children or if you work (and play!) with kids, Made to Play! is definitely a worthwhile addition to your library. It provides an inspiring repertoire of everyday fun.
Today you can download instructions for the Modular Headbands from Made to Play! You’ll want to grab some felt and get right to work.
You can also comment on today’s post for a chance to win one of two copies of Made to Play!: Handmade Toys and Crafts for Growing Imaginations (US + Canada addresses only this time, please). Tell us how you play! Joel will be back next week with another free project from the book.
