Just put them in a freezer bag in the freezer. My kids get growing pains at night and the cold rice packs are perfect. They aren't too cold and they don't melt. :) They do warm up faster than other cold packs but my kids are usually asleep by then. These would work as cold packs too. You might want to test your own too - just to be safe - but I don't think you'll have a problem.
