Gloria I often do not pay customs, it depends. Most of the time I am lucky and either the ordered value is not so high or customs just didn't pick my package. Worst thing is, once you are over the value which comes free, they also count the postage when calculating the costums amount, at least in Germany. Once there is enough fabric to justify the postage, there will be too much to bring in tax-free which means paying 20% VAT plus a handling charge*. Never mind, I shall just have to come to the US soon!! There are some people who seem to be able to get stuff through without paying - and I have never worked out how as I have even had to pay when it was only 50p over the limit!!
