Bag Month ~ July, 2007

Bag Month

Guess what?  July is Bag Month here at Sew,Mama,Sew!  We have lots of things planned and we hope you’ll join in the fun.  If you’ve been meaning to make a tote, a purse, a handbag or a messenger bag now is the time.  We’ll give you a few tips, some inspiration, lots of encouragment and even a little motivation in the form of prizes.  Here is what we have in store:

  • Bag Month Flickr Group (join anytime)

  • Five pattern reviews

  • Two tutorials (Autum is going to give us some tips on linings and pockets, and Lisa is going to show us how to make those beautiful handles we’ve all been in awe of.)

  • Links to resources and inspiration

  • A guide to interfacing

  • And last but not least, a contest!

Are you in?  If you’d like, feel free to take the little Bag Month badge above and spread the word. The more the merrier.  It will be a bag extravaganza!

Well, this sounds like fun! I’m always looking for new bag-making techniques. Good choice for a theme!

What perfect timing! I am just about to make my first bag. Yes, I am intimidated by it. Looking forward to your tips and to seeing all the beautiful bags made by others!

Lining tips are exactly what I need! I never can get the lining to fit the outside of the bag – no matter how carefully I measure, cut, and stick to the seam allowance. Maybe now all the secrets will be revealed!

Just yesterday I noticed that I was carrying half a dozen bags around that I’d sewn myself. That may be too many, but then it may not be…

I have been designing and sewing purses for 6 years now. I started as something creative to do. I loved purses, and making things, so naturally I taught myself to sew purses. I have been selling them at craft shows and some retail stores in Nebraska. I love seeing my regular customers keep coming back to my booth each season and oooh and aaah over the new things I have done. Next step: THE WEB!!!

I *love* making purses! It’s so much fun to be able to make something that coordinates with an outfit I’m planning to wear (or one I’ve made my daughter) or just to change up on a whim.

  40. Fantastic - I will be in with bells on! I bought some bag patterns just recently and have been delaying starting (a little bit of lining-related anxiety!), so this gives me extra motivation to give it a go! Thanks too for the link from flickr. xx responds:
