Girls’ Clothes Tutorial Round-Up

Did you see our Boys’ Clothes Tutorial Round-Up earlier this month? Many of those tutorials would be great for girls too (girls are just so fortunate with this, aren’t they?!). Here, in honor of Kids’ Clothes Month, are some of our favorite girls’ clothes tutorials. Many of these were mentioned by readers as some of their favorite tutorials, and we love all of the variations. It’s easy to learn (and sew) a lot with these fun links. Enjoy!

Charm Pack Squares Skirt
Now you have a great excuse to use up all of your small pieces of favorite fabrics. Linda has a “charming” Charm Pack Squares Skirt Tutorial for you. Linda lives in Minnesota and has been blogging for just under a year. She writes, “My main interest is in sewing children’s clothing. I have sewing kid’s and doll’s clothing and selling them as a side job for about seven years. My clothes are featured on my website, The Merry Church Mouse, and Etsy shop.”
Pillowcase Dress
Jen, of Red Instead, just recently updated her popular Pillowcase Dress Tutorial with new photos and easier instructions. She writes, “I’m a stay at home mum in Australia who loves to make things and try to sell them!”
Tiered Skirt
Korallin loved the 3 Peas tutorial for a tiered skirt. The 3 Peas blog is gone, so Korallin asked for (and received) permission to share the Tiered Skirt Tutorial on her site, Kuky Ideas. Korallin writes, “I’m a stay at home mom. I have a little girl, Isabelle, [who turned] two on the 12th (Happy Belated Birthday, Isabelle!). I learned to sew about fifteen years ago from a college class. But I didn’t really fall in love with sewing until I started sewing clothes for Isabelle. And now I think about it all the time! I love it so much that I just got a serger and can’t wait to figure it out. When I’m not sewing, I enjoy drawing or knitting.”
Sunny Day Dress and Top
Oh, sunny day! These are just happy, don’t you think? Erin from house on hill road shares a great, versatile tutorial and technique with her Sunny Day Dress and Top Tutorial. Visit Erin for more crafty goodness on her blog; she always has something inspiring and fun!
Twirly Skirt
Erin does it again with an easy Twirly Skirt Tutorial. It’s a proven pattern, with results enjoyed by kids and adults alike (Erin’s twirly skirt pattern pops up all over!). Visit house on hill road and thank Erin for the sewing fun!
Button Shirt to Toddler Dress
So many, many people mentioned this fun and easy tutorial over on Craftster. Chey shows us how to do a little sewing magic with this Button Shirt into a Toddler Dress Tutorial. We love it!
Twirly Skirt
Angela created this Twirly Skirt Tutorial after making twirly skirts for her daughters (this photo shows her favorite skirt set). Angela writes, “I’m Angela, an Iowa native now in Wisconsin. I’ve been sewing since my mom taught me when I was twelve and love to sew for my three girls. I love to make them fun things to wear that no one else has. I also do smocking and love making them special things for church and other occasions.” See more on Angela’s blog, Dangit Ange!, and her website, Cornpatch Creations.
Superhero Cape
Georgia from Puking Pastilles created this Superhero Cape Tutorial with girl and boy-friendly versions (her daughter’s has a princess crown on one side and a Supergirl symbol on the other, in pink and purple). There are super-clear instructions and links for great appliqués; just what your resident Superhero requires. .
Pillowcase Dress
Nonie’s Everything Sewing blog really does have a bit of everything, from smocking tips to a great forum. Enjoy the site’s Pillowcase Dress Tutorial contributed by Beachie (with a PDF pattern file) and then browse around!
Drop Waist Twirl Skirt
Hope writes that she’s a, “SAHM who just likes to sew!” Her Drop Waist Twirl Skirt Tutorial was mentioned by several readers as a clear, easy-to-follow skirt tutorial. Visit Hope’s blog, Going Sew Crazy, for more!
T-Shirt Dress
Angela was inspired by an idea in this book to use inexpensive t-shirts for dresses for her daughter. Enjoy her T-Shirt Dress Tutorial on her blog, Quilting in Cornfields. Angela writes, “I’m a wife to a fantastic husband and mother of an adorable two year old daughter who keeps me on my toes. I’m currently taking a break from graduate studies to spend time with my daughter and regain some sanity. I’m mostly a quilter, but I love making things for my daughter to wear. I even manage to sometimes make things for myself. Sewing and quilting are my outlet for playing with colors and design — and without it I get cranky, just ask my husband!”
Smocket
Alicia’s Smocket Tutorial (click, then look for the right sidebar link) is such a classic, sweet design for the little girls in your life (a smock with a pocket!). Amy from happythings shared a vintage design with Alicia. Alicia then adapted it and turned it into a PDF with simple directions. Visit Alicia’s beautiful blog, Mayfly, for much more.

Don’t forget to make a few girly patchwork scarves (for the girls in your life and for our little sew-along!).

Did we miss some fantastic girls’ clothes tutorials? Share them in the comments! Share your all of those beautiful girls’ clothes you create in the Kids’ Clothes Month Flickr Pool too.

I made a button shirt to dress following that tutorial about a month ago. Though I did the snaps in front with mine, because it had lovely pearl snaps and two small pockets (one on each side on the chest). It turned out darling and was so easy!

Oooooh, I especially love the tiered twirly skirt tutorials~ I’m going to have to make a pair of them for my little girls for October. I’m thinking they would be especially cute with a little bit of Halloween fabric thrown in here-and-there. Thanks for this blog entry!
