Are you ready for Handmade Holidays?

It’s started. You know what we’re talking about: Christmas trees in department stores, not-so-subtle ads everywhere, a deluge of catalogs and the nagging feeling that you should get to work and at least think about holiday gifts. We have the answer for holiday gift-giving this year, or at least the inspiration and a few (100+) tools to help you get it done. We’re thrilled to present, starting tomorrow, our Sew,Mama,Sew! Handmade Holidays: 30 Days of Gifts to Sew!

Each day in November focuses on a particular theme; we will provide great resources and inspirational ideas for sewing holiday gifts. Every week throughout November we’ll also offer two $25 gift certificates to Sew,Mama,Sew! Winners will be randomly selected from all comments posted on the blog in the previous week.

Please help us spread the news about Handmade Holidays. Feel free to add our button to your blog or website (see below) and please enjoy our sneak peek at the themes below. Visit daily, find your creative muse and enjoy Handmade Holidays!

I think this is a fabulous idea, and one that I can certainly get behind. This has been a year of reflection for me and my family with regards to our impact on the enviornment, products we buy and lifestyle choices we have made. I think we are making some very positive choices to lessen our footprint, and this is certainly an additonal way to further our goals. Plus , handmade says so much more then a mass produced item. Thank you for the nudge! Jennifer

  79. jude responds:

This is a wonderful idea. Even people like me for whom drawstring bags are the pinnacle of sewing achievement can play along.

I have always had it in the back of my mind to start making reusable gift bags from felt/velvet/etc so that each time I give someone something, they also get a bag to reuse. The tricky thing is some kind of closure that is easy but dissuades the curious from peeking.

  80. Veronica Koh Eischeid responds:

I love your blog! I always try to make all my Christmas gifts every year for my family, but it’s gotten to the point where I’m so busy and have had to buy some of the gifts. So now I make it a point to make at least one handmade gift for each person. Your site is really making me get in the crafting mood now. I can’t wait to start making stuff.

This is a totally great idea! I’ll be visiting often but it is also helping me see how I can organize my own gift-making this year — I think I should stick with a ‘theme a week’ but right now it’s looking like a powerfully supportive way to meet my gift-maiking goals – thanks!

I was so excited to find that Lisa at The Domestic Diva blog listed my free pattern yesterday in her list of tote patterns in support of your Handmade Holidays feature, and I followed her link over here. I have visited your shop and blog before, and after finding this, I can’t wait to visit everyday to see what fun you have going on. I love this “November of Goodies to sew”. I have told everyone I know who sews to get their act together now, and start sewing and being creative whilst there is time before Christmas sets in.

I am working on a sewing school project with my daughter, and the need for the sewing machine has been necessary. In fact I am loving having my machine out after so long, that I am running things up left right and centre. And guess what- the Pincushions Tutorials were the thing to push me over the edge- after so long wanting a stuffed ’softie’ pincushion, I finally made one (for me)- well 6 now in one week to be used for Christmas presents for teachers, friends and ‘thank-you’s. Keep up the fantastic work, I am on the link everyday to check out the latest projects.

Yay! This site is a new find for me. I’ve already tried 2 spin offs of your projects and I’m a nonsewer. I turned the crayon rolly into a crayon apron. Once using fabric and once using oilcloth. Cute either way, although oilcloth was hard.
Am forwarding this site to my entire address book of crafty friends.
Thanks so much and keep up the good work!
Great references too – I’m lovin’ it all!!!
