Plush-O-Rama: Curious Creatures for Immature Adults

By Linda Kopp

(Lark Books, $14.95, ISBN: 1-57990-878-0, ISBN13: 9781579908782)

From the Publisher:

What’s the big new phenomenon, with legions of devotees? Making lovable stuffed monsters! Influenced by the popularity of Japanese animé and video game culture, urban illustration and design, and the do-it-yourself craft movement, these designer plush toys are everywhere—even museum stores. Yet they’re simple to sew. Just take fabric, a needle and thread, and stuffing, combine a touch of cuteness with a dash of utter weirdness, and you’ve got one of the oddest, most irresistible creatures ever. And these 30+ projects—including furry, green-lipped Monkey; Greggles, who sports a coif of tentacles; and flirtatious Polly, who has her three eyes on every guy—are as much at home in a trendy loft studio as in a child’s room. They’re unabashedly handmade, but bold, colorful, and very modern. A thorough Basics section provides all the fundamentals, from fabric selection to stitches to the ins and outs of the construction process. And, as a bonus, there’s a handful of profiles of select plush designers with photos of their work.
Join the Lark Books Quilt It! contest!

I’m always so pleased by the numerous tutorials offered by talented stitchers and artists; they generously share their knowledge with all of us.
I visited Jennifer’s shop and “fell” for her zipper pouches (and wallets, too). I’d love to buy a pouch to carry my small hand applique blocks, pinned and ready for sewing; a zipper pouch would add style to my un-stylish life!

I love love love that little house pouch. It reminds me of a wooden purse my preschool teacher had that was shaped like a house. (Yes, I was so amazed by it that I can still picture it 38 years later!) It would be fun to make flat felt people to live inside — a good travel toy for a child (or me, heh).

I LOVE the Phoebe bag – have just printed it out to try over the weekend. I am new to sewing but have become very addicted already! I have ordered far too much (says my husband) fabric from the sew mama sew store and other lovely online shops that I need lots of projects to do :) . I also have to say how wonderful crafty blogland is – very inspiring, motivating and all round positive experience, look forward to checking all my favourite blogs – including this one, daily :)

PS: Have just made the Jennifer Ladd clutch a favourite on Etsy – it is just gorgeous.

Have a good weekend everyone x
