Quilts for Wrap Them in Love
Our first team effort is quilts for Wrap Them in Love. This project will continue through January, so there’s plenty of time to help out. Wrap Them in Love Foundation collects donated quilts and distributes them to children around the world. The foundation started with one quilt for one child, and it has grown exponentially through the years.

Ellen, a Wrap Them in Love Co-Founder, writes, “…Our quilts go to children around the world as well as all over the USA. With this economy, our quilts have not only been going to children in orphanages, but also to homeless children, foster kids, and families in crisis. We are always in need of donated quilts, and we are in great need of donated funds to help us to get quilts to the children who need them. We are a non-profit charity and everything that we do is done by volunteers, and of course, any donations are tax deductible.”

Donate Completed Quilts, Money, Blocks or Quilt Tops, Fabric, Batting
You can make a quilt or quilts and send them to Wrap Them in Love. As Ellen mentioned, they are also always thankful for your tax deductible, non-profit donations to fund quilt delivery. If you can’t donate a finished quilt you can send blocks or quilt tops which will be completed by volunteers and given to comfort a child. Wrap Them in Love will also put your extra fabric and batting donations to good use, incorporating them into new quilts for children around the world.

Quilt Specifications
As noted on the Wrap Them in Love website, here are the foundation’s quilting specifications to keep in mind as you prepare for the project:

• Remember these quilts will be used and laundered a lot. Tie or quilt them fairly close so that they can hold up to lots of loving.

• We recommend about 40″ X 60″, but you can make them any size. There are older children as well as babies who need them.
• Several times we have been asked for larger quilts for teenagers. Children come in all sizes, so whatever size you choose to make will be great!
• Gather your friends, club or quilt group, your classroom, your church and make quilts together.
• Please be sure to put a label on each quilt that includes your name, where you are from, and the date you made the quilt.

   It’s truly heartwarming to read about the collective efforts of so many to help children all over the world. I’ll be putting together a box of supplies with a donation, and I have after-Christmas plans for a quilt or 2 to donate. Thank you to the founders and to all of the volunteers, what a difference this can make to so many.

   I am so moved and motivated by this blog. Yesterday I emailed all my girlfriends the link to Wrap Them In Love. I plan to make a quilt to donate after the holidays. With a deadline I can bang this out!!

   I made a baby quilt – machine stitched it (first time) for my daughter so when she decides to have a baby it will be ready. I now think it is a better choice to someone who needs it now. I can always make another one for her later. Why have a perfectly good quilt sitting around in a drawer taking up space when it can be put to good use and be loved now. Thanks for the opportunity to pass it along. Will be making another one to send with it also. I like the picnic pattern. This will be great for an older child.

   I love the intersection of artisans and social change. Thank you for making this a focus of SMS’s blog in the midst of what is often a very consumerist season. This is what Christmas is all about!

   I have two quilt tops ready to put together. I will forward them to the Wrap Them In Love address as shown in this blog. I am happy to give them for use by children in need. I send them with love.

   I have never quilted before. I want to try though. I think I need a really simple one to do. It’s a lovely idea to gift something so special. x

   There is a great need for the comfort and warmth of a quilt in some person’s life. If you can’t manage the postage for overseas. Please ask questions in your own home town about who could use them. Most towns and cities have hospitals where they need quilts for the preemies and for those who have babies and can’t afford to go buy one. Ask at your church or organizations. Police Depts. sometimes can use them for children in bad situations, check in the larger towns with funeral homes that do free burials for babies. The parents would love to have a small quilt to remember their child. I can go on with many other places. Believe it or not even Free Cycle can be a place on line where you find people that really need a quilt. I have been doing this for many years. What a blessing it is to me.

    I am in. I’m headed to the forum now. I’ve got a lot to do between now and Christmas, but thinking of how much I love my family members and how I want to give them something special, makes me realize how much these children need something special too.
