Create & Celebrate (some more!)

  • Anina of twiddletails writes, “A group of us is embarking on the journey to make a ‘Dear Jane‘ quilt… The project’s blog is Dear Baby Jane and we have a Flickr group for photos. Anyone is welcome to join, whether they want to make all 225 blocks or just a few. We have a button for use on blogs.” Doesn’t that sound fun?
  • Avlor from Fox Downs writes, “The timing for this set of Create and Celebrates couldn’t be more perfect. I just finished my daughter’s Easter dress last night. Yippee!” Her daughter loved it and we do too!
  • Wendy (”Sunshine”) from Sunshine’s Creations is starting a business as a professional pattern tester. We’ve shared Sunshine’s tutorials and quilts before so you’re likely familiar with her fine attention to detail. You can contact her at sunshine_harbaugh [at] juno.com for more information.
  • Cocoa from Chocolate On My Cranium shares, “I have written a tutorial on creating an easy but cute tote bag, so easy my daughters (ages 12, 11, and 9) can make their own. The tutorial is on my blog here. I also have some for sell in my Etsy shop.”
  • Lisa from Upstatelisa has a paper piecing tutorial on her blog. “I wrote a little tutorial not too long ago on using freezer paper for paper piecing while making the scrap log cabins featured on Melly and Me’s blog. Saves on paper and having to rip out those teeny little pieces of paper.” Click in and check it out!
  • Amy writes, “My daughter has poor eyesight and we’ve been having to ‘patch’ her good eye for two hours a day to exercise her weaker one. I make her patches out of felt, as the sticky ones we got from the hospital were pretty useless, and have posted the pattern and a tutorial of how to do it on my blog, LucyKate Crafts.” This is such a cute solution to support kids’ development. Thanks, Amy!
  • Michelle from greetingarts is hosting her second Embroidered Button Swap. Find all of the details on her blog and then get to work!
  • Sandra shared a tutorial for this 7″ mini teddy bear on her Fabrications blog (on her left sidebar). She’s giving away all of the supplies needed for one bear if you comment on her post today, so visit and prepare for a bear of your very own.
  • Rose has a fat quarter tote bag tutorial on her Island Mama blog. She writes, “It’s a quick, basic project to make out of two fat quarters — a kid-size tote bag. My son and his friends love theirs!” We love the repurposed belt handles!
  • Christine has a tutorial for a ladies wallet with a zipped coin compartment on her Sew Christine blog. The tutorial includes lots of great, step-by-step instructions.
  • Michelle of Sew Much More writes, “This isn’t really an announcement, but I thought that I share an idea I had when I made a baby quilt for a friend this past fall. She had registered at Target for receiving blankets. So I bought those and used one of the blankets to make a simple quilt for her, then gave her the other two blankets in her gift. I thought it was a great way to choose fabric I know that she’d love while still being able to make a handmade gift… I posted it on my blog… I’ve made two quilts since that I posted about as well. I’ve had a lot of fun doing these for friends.” Beautiful!
  • Are you looking for baby shoes? Oddrun Helene writes, “Hello. I am a Norwegian mother of three who enjoy sewing. I have a few tutorials in my blog. Since English is not my native language I haven’t been able to post them all in English – but a few (including the following ones) are translated. Feel free to have a look if you like: Make your own soft leather shoes (for all sizes 18-45) and from the same pattern, Cloth shoes for baby (the way I make them).” Find more in her English blog ohelene sewing+ and Norwegian blog ohelene syr. You can find her full compilation of tutorials in English (including a darling baby hat) here.

Re: Michelle’s idea for using receiving blankets for a quilt. What a great idea! I did this for my son’s bed quilt. It’s nice to be able to purchase the fitted sheets (he’s still using a toddler bed, too) and coordinating accents, but still have a beautiful handmade quilt. You can see the one I made here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8244232@N08/1278700066/in/set-72157601557868518/

I love that sweet little baby hat, I wonder if instead of covering the seams with binding I could make the hat lined. That way it would be reversible too!

I stopped in to create a new thread to introduce myself. My name is Josh and I stumbled here by a fast Google and preferred to just say hello. I would enjoy engaging in future discussions and look onward to speaking with all.

My best hobby is http://computerrepair101.wordpress.com – computer repair and this is the first site that I have ever made.
