Micki writes, “I wanted to publicly give my 9 year old props for her latest sewing project. She’s learning to sew and wanted to make her teacher a gift for the end of the year. She made this apron for her homeroom teacher. Later in the day, her other teacher asked if she would make her one, too! Talk about making her day! • Lily writes, “I’ve been working on a quilt top that incorporates a lot of flying
  geese units and after finding some great instructions for a no-waste method of making four units at once, I created a photo tutorial as I sewed and posted it on my blog. It’s called “Making Your Geese Fly!” I also came up with a really neat way to make an 8 “wedge” plate and created a photo tutorial for this too… It’s called “Lily’s Eight-Wedge Plate.” Thanks for sharing with us, Lily!

• Mimi writes that she has created a “Work In Progress Kinda(ish)” Tutorial on the draping progress of a pattern she’s making for a contest. Take a look on her Myraida blog.

• Kakariki from Radical Crossstitch wrote in about the Radical Cross Stitch Free Tibet XStitch Competition. She says, “To celebrate, honor and contribute to all the creative resistance that the Free Tibet campaign has seen over the years, we thought we’d get crafters from around the world who care about this issue an opportunity to get involved. • Amy writes, “Here is my recent tutorial on making your own custom curtain valances. After painting the walls in our kitchen, those old valances just had to go! I decided to take photos and write a tutorial as I sewed the new ones. Here is a photo link of the finished project.” Find more of Amy’s work on her New England Quilter blog.

Rosa writes, “My mother taught me to sew very young. I can’t quite remember a time when I didn’t know how to sew by hand and then by machine. Last night, I attempted to teach my dd how to hand sew, and she will ultimately learn how to do some embroidery. I put some fabric on a hoop. I drew a simple heart in the center. I gave her red thread on a needle and taught her a couple of stitches and left her on her own…

Of course, she called me a million times to re-thread the needle. It took her two hours to complete the heart, but she sat still and patiently tried to sew, and wouldn’t give up. She is looking forward to getting back to finish her father’s name, which she wrote in the center of the heart. She plans on giving it to him when he comes back from a business trip.     Rosa, that is the sweetest thing that your daughter added her daddy’s name to the heart. What a sweet Father’s Day gift that will make! maybe you should give her a little jump start on learning how to machine sew and she could add the embroidery to a pillow.
    I have lots of fond memories of my mom teaching me how to embroidery (and later sew) many many years ago!

    Thanks Kim. That is a great idea! I’ve also been web shopping for Men’s hankie and will have her embroider one for her Dad and one for Grandpa. Also, I want her to embroider three more for her three grandma’s (two biological and one step-grandma), which will be for Christmas. I have so many plans, but hope she won’t get sick of me having her do too many projects. Thanks, again.

    I wanted to add an idea that is simple and has helped my daughter keep her needle threaded…after I thread the needle, I take the end of the thread by the eye and I tie a simple “knot” (actually it’s just the cross over and through part of the know…the first step, ya’ know?) at the eye of the needle. It gives her something to hang onto, but also lets her move her hands up to the tip of the needle for more control at times, without letting the thread pull off.
    Now if I could just get her to stop making knots while she was embroidering, I’d be good…!
