Board Member Introduction ~ Bean

You probably remember Bean from her wonderful quilted hot pads in last month’s Sewing for the Home tutorials. Bean is one of our new board members, joining Autum (and others with intros to come!) to help plan a very full and fun month of Handmade Holidays in November. Here she is with her daughter Annabel! Enjoy Bean’s answers to our crafty questions below, then head over to Coyote Craft for more of Bean’s creativity (sugar skulls, birthday fun, hats for people who really need some extra warmth, and much more…).

SMS: How long have you been sewing?
Bean: I started hand sewing & using patterns when I was around 5, making dolls and clothes for them with my mom. I started machine sewing after having my own daughter, mostly self-taught through books and online tutorials.

SMS: What do you enjoy about sewing? What are your favorite things to make?
Bean: I just really love making cute stuff and hording fabric. I especially enjoy making useful things for around the home, children’s clothes, toys & dolls, and just about anything that incorporates patchwork or recycled materials.

SMS: How do you find time to fit creativity (sewing and any other creative loves) into your life?
Bean: Creativity has always been a part of my every day life. I love to sew, crochet, embroider, collage, paint, dream, write, garden, felt, carve, stamp, work with clay, make up silly songs and avoid housework as much as possible.

That, and I don’t sleep enough!

SMS: Do you have a favorite sewing tip or skill that’s made things work better for you?
Bean: Google It… Be patient with yourself.

SMS: What’s a favorite thing you’ve made lately?
Bean: I love this little handbag that I made with some fabric I got here @ Sew,Mama,Sew! It’s really cute, and holds everything I need.

SMS: Can you tell us a little more about yourself?
Bean: I’m too complicated to sum up in a blog interview!
