Queen Anne’s Lace Pillowcase

When we started planning for our month of Hand Sewing we knew we had to ask Alicia from Posie Gets Cozy for help with a project. Alicia’s new book comes out next summer; it incorporate cross-stitch, crewel and floss embroidery in a collection of 30 projects. Our copies of Stitched in Time are already well-loved from use so we’re certainly looking forward to this next book!

You can download your free Queen Anne’s Lace Pillowcase PDF for instructions today. Alicia designed today’s pillowcase project to go with her new Ollalieberry Ice Cream Quilt. The simple pattern uses three stitches (stem stitch, satin stitch & french knot). If you’re new to these stitches we love the Sublime Stitching Now-I-Get-It Stitching Diagrams as an easy-to-follow resource. Enjoy!

Comment in any post this week for a chance to win a SMS Deluxe Hand Sewing Kit or one of 4 $20 gift certificates to Sew,Mama,Sew! This week you can also win a Clover Holiday Rotary Cutter Gift Set.

Queen Anne’s Lace always makes me think of my Grandma and how we used to pick it and press it in big books each summer so we’d have “pretty lace” to look at the next summer. I think I will make these and put them in my guest bedroom. It’s where I keep a lot of family-made items like the quilt my great-grandmother gave us as a wedding anniversary gift and the table that my hubby’s father made. I think it would add a nice touch…thanks again!!!!

That is so beautiful! I’m really getting the hand stitching bug this month. I havent’ managed to put together something to do yet but it’s definately getting higher and higher on my to-do list! Thanks for the great link with stitching how tos. I’ve been stitching for many many many years but I am self taught and am probably doing it all wrong anyway so it’s nice to get a refresher course from time to time. ;)

I love the look of this. I grew up having a beautiful crocheted edgin on all of my pillowcases but have just had plain ones since the last of those wore out. I am trying to teach myself how to do the edgings, but this would be an easier way to add something to my scases right away. Thanks

That’s just gorgeous — I love the simplicity of the white-on-green embroidery, and the design is so simple and so evocative. It’s obviously lovely on the pillowcase, but it makes me want to find a more prominently-placed item on which to embroider it! The button band of a blouse, perhaps. How neat.

Yay! I am going to stitch the Queen on to my a-line thrifted skirt that found its way into my greedy little hands JUST TODAY. I think my life is falling into place. Yea, this is definitely the start of something good.

And, you know, thank you for giving away such a cool little gift.

You could have sold it, you could have kept it all to yourself and lorded it over us (like my older sister did when we were little), you could have sat on your butt and dreamed of doing it someday. But you didn’t. You did it. For the love of many. Good on you. Tell your mama, she’ll be so proud.
